Ship Reviews

This river cruise itinerary was absolutely amazing and unforgettable. I've always considered myself a worldly traveler, but this was such a great introduction to this side of the world I had never been too. Not only were the crew on board warm, witty, genuine, but the level of organization of the entire itinerary was top knotch. There was not one moment where I thought there was nothing to do, or that I was bord. The onboard food was fabulous and if you had any dietary restrictions the Restaurant Manager always made she you received the correct dish. The local guides were my favorite component to this entire experience. My travel partner and I chose to do the pre-cruise land package extension in Siem Reap, and I cannot recommend it more. The early morning sunrise excursion over Angkor Wat will last with me forever. The amount of history and culture that you will experience on this cruise is incredible. I've been on a Rhine River cruise with AmaWaterways before, but this absolutely tops it. If you are thinking of experiencing an entirely new destination or are ready to learn about a completely new culture, then do not hesitate to reserve this itinerary. Cambodia and Vietnam 110% stole my heart, and I thank AmaWaterways for it.

Just returned from the Mekong Delta and enjoyed our trip but Ama could improve on a few details. This is not a European river cruise and there is a lot of down time between activities. We signed up for all the extensions and felt like we could have had a better experience on our own. We started in Bangkok and the Peninsula is a great hotel . Unfortunately not much was scheduled for our 2 days. There was only a total of 4 people on this extension and we all felt like more could have been scheduled for our 2 day stay. Our last day was a long day. We departed from Saigon city and unfortunately we had a 10:15 departure . We had to check out of Hotel at 1 and sit in lobby for 5 hours before heading to the airport. My advice is to schedule your own airport transfers and maybe consider your own extensions which a lot of people did. I felt like Ama could have pampered us a little more on the extensions and even day tours. Our last tour of the tunnels in Saigon included about 5 hours of bus driving in bumper to bumper traffic . On the way home they stopped at a roadside market to add another 45 mins to our return trip . No lunch provided except for the standard water on the bus. I think we arrived home at around 4 pm from our tunnel tour.. On a positive note guides were great , crew very nice but bring plenty of $1 bills for tipping at least 120 for 2 people.

We really enjoyed this trip. There were interesting, educational and entertaining activities every day. The service was excellent and the cruise manager, AK, was a very good organzer. We had local guides in every city who were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We never waited for our luggage or room keys. The planning was flawless. The dining was good with lots of choices. The fruit and the breakfasts were particulary good. There were good choices for every meal including western and local cuisine. The trip to Ha Long Bay was wonderful and the land packages and hotels in Seam Reap, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi were top notch. We can highly recommend this cruise. It would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues to do all the activities. Anyone planning on doing this trip should be extremely careful when applying for a Vietnam visa as you need a multiple entry visa as some passengers discovered when we returned to Vietnam after visiting Cambodia.
