AmaSonata

Our award-winning AmaSonata sings her melodious tune down Europe’s great rivers. Most accommodations have twin balconies, so you can enjoy the ever-changing scenery however you wish, along with amenities like Entertainment-On-Demand, high-speed Internet access and English-language TV stations. A soft color palette in each stateroom calms the mind for relaxation, but when you’re ready to get active, head to the fitness center or up to the Sun Deck to the heated pool. Crisp white tablecloths and napkins grace the tables in the subdued Main Dining Room, while The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant highlights its 5-star multi-course cuisine with gold-hued tones and a twinkling overhead centerpiece. With a stunning Main Lounge, tranquil library, sun-deck walking track, massage and hair salon, and gift shop, you’ll never find a dull moment—and will sing AmaSonata’s praises while sailing on board.

Ship Reviews

This cruise had an emphasis on classical music, with concerts on and off the ship, tours of composers' houses and related museums etc. We combined it with a pre-cruise land portion - 3 nights in Prague at the Hilton Old Town. The cruise started in Vienna, sailed west as far as Linz, then retraced its route and went past Vienna to end in Budapest. It's a bit of an unusual route but suited us. There was an optional post-cruise land segment in Krakow, but we didn't take it. Everything was very well done, including transfers from airport to Prague hotel, from hotel to ship, and ship to airport in Budapest. The guides provided were uniformly excellent. We expected more people for the pre-cruise, but it turned out that we were the only two who selected it, so we got a private tour there and were escorted from Prague to Vienna by train (first class!) instead of chartered bus. An Ama rep actually took the train with us and made sure we got onto the Ama-organized taxi to the ship. Someone from Ama even met us when we got off the transfer bus at the airport in Budapest and helped us check our bags for the trip home. First class service all the way! Embarkation and disembarkation were very easy and seamless, especially compared with ocean cruises we have taken. Tour options included walking, hiking and biking tours. We took several walking tours and one bike tour, in Linz, which was excellent. The bikes were very good, the pace was moderate, and there were frequent stops to look at the sights, including an interior tour of a cathedral. Food and service were excellent, with free drinks at lunch and dinner, and at least one cocktail hour per day. The free beer stayed the same, and was very good; but the wine was different each day. There was a bar with optional paid drinks, but we didn't try that, having had more than enough to drink with the free stuff! There was a small swimming pool, but of course there's no room on such a small ship for a larger one. We didn't try any of the other fitness offerings but there were classes, exercise bikes, etc., all included except for massages. All in all, we had an excellent time. Excellent weather and no issues with water levels certainly helped. June seems like a good time of year for a cruise like this.

This cruise exceeded my wife and my expectations. Everything was First Class Five Star! Great food with a broad selection of menu options. Free wine, beer and soft drinks every day at happy hour and every day at dinner. Excellent service. Very friendly attentive staff. Multiple tours at each port. Clean modern facilities. Entertainment every evening. Couldn't ask for more.

My mother in law was born in Austria in the early 1950's and immigrated to the U.S. in 1956(her family story/history is an emotional journey) This was her first trip back to her birthplace and Ama Waterways truly helped make this an amazing experience. My wife, son, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law traveled together. Raul Dederichs was our Cruise Manager and he really added a world class level of professionalism and a perfect blend of local knowledge and humor. I could write for hours of our appreciation for Raul, he's an exceptional human. We added two nights in Budapest, Hungary prior to cruising and three nights in Prague, CZ post cruise. The sights from the boat were picturesque the entire time. The food, drinks and accommodations exceeded all our expectations. The hotel manager aboard the boat along with the entire dining and housekeeping staff were totally pleasant and endearing. My son and I chose to ride bikes through the Austrian Wachau Valley(pre arranged by Ama Waterways) and our local guide Ingrid Sonnleitner was absolutely fantastic! I was expecting good food however, I wasn't expecting the personal touch the Chef and staff delivered. The food and presentation was to the finest level. Ama Waterways helped getting to and from the airports, hotels and attractions seamless. There was plenty of high quality entertainment both onboard and off board. All the local guides spoke clearly and added a nice perspective. I would highly recommend Ama Waterways to anyone looking for a pleasant river cruising experience.
