My wife and I are seasoned air/land travelers and so we decided to take our first river cruise 4 years ago but we all know what happened April 2020. Fast forward to this summer and we finally were able to take the cruise. Amawaterways was exceptional in working with us to book the cruise and the crew of AmaVerde made the it memorable. Whether it's in sports or hospitality, the greatest make it look easy and that's exactly what the Cruise Director, Hotel Manager, and Captain and their staffs did. The wellness director leading exercise classes on the sundeck at 7am, the servers in the lounge and dining areas, our steward making sure our cabin was always well-stocked and spotless, all of the touches large and small were executed with friendliness and precision. We embarked in Budapest and disembarked 2 hours away from Bucharest due to low water but the Cruise Director seemed to have moved mountains to ensure the excursions proceeded as planned and there would be minimal disruptions to post-cruise itineraries. Instead of it being an hour from Bucharest, it took 2 hours and Amawaterways provided the transportation to all guests. The guides in all of the ports were fantastic but be forewarned, this is a part of the world you seek to understand voluntarily--it is not Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, Florence, or Prague. We highly recommend Amawaterways as the company to work with and the AmaVerde as the ship to sail on.
This was our first cruise. We were very impressed by the level of care given by all of the staff on the ship. We enjoyed the food, amenities, entertainment, and tours. All of our tour guides were great and we were able to participate in active tours ( hiking and biking) which is what we were hoping for. We very much enjoyed getting to see cities by hiking up to the castles and all around the old towns at a brisk pace. The bike trips were fun as well. Highlights included climbing through medieval fortresses in tiny steep staircases and seeing amazing views. The serving staff in the dining room was great with such friendly demeanors that they felt like friends by the end of the trip. Housekeeping went above and beyond. We also really loved the pre and post cruise extensions in Prague and România. Since we were on the ship for two weeks, we had two different cruise directors, both of whom did a great job, were very organized and personable. A wonderful travel experience! From the moment I stepped on board, I was greeted with warm smiles and exceptional hospitality from the staff, who were always friendly and eager to assist with any request. The attention to detail in every aspect of the service was truly impressive.The staterooms were immaculate, with the housekeeping team ensuring that the rooms were cleaned thoroughly every day, leaving them fresh and inviting each time I returned. The amenities were top-notch, providing everything I needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay.The culinary experience on board was exceptional. Each meal was a delightful journey of flavors, with a variety of delicious dishes that catered to different tastes and preferences. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the food was consistently of high quality, beautifully presented, and full of flavor.Overall, the combination of excellent service, pristine accommodations, and delectable dining made for an unforgettable river cruise experience.
