AmaSiena

Sister ship to the award-winning AmaLea and AmaKristina, the elegant 156-passenger AmaSiena brought with her a sense of joy when she was christened in 2021. Vivid shades of red create an air of confidence throughout the Main Restaurant while bold floral patterns are sprinkled throughout the ship, from her spacious twin-balcony staterooms to her Main Lounge, with its floor-to-ceiling windows offering exceptional views of the castles along the Rhine River and the iconic windmills and pastures of Holland and Belgium. Her airy Sun Deck offers a walking track, pool with swim-up bar and ever-changing views of the scenery – even as you participate in a complimentary fitness class. And her Chef’s Table specialty restaurant offers a subtle elegance that allows each dish of its exquisite regionally inspired tasting menu to shine. Discover all of these delights and more on board AmaSiena.

Ship Reviews

From the first moment you walk up the gang plank you know it's going to be everything you hoped for. Luggage drop off starts as early as 10am on embarkation day. Service was smooth and we felt confident to leave even our backpacks while we went site seeing in Amsterdam. Note that you stay in Port on the day you embark and arrive in Port the evening before you disembark. Our cabin was ready for us at 3pm. It was impeccably clean. Throughout the week the house keeping staff were ninja fast to tidy up, pick up laundry and bring extra hangars. Laundry is next day service and very reasonably priced. Note that you can request a top sheet and blanket instead of the duvet (which we did). There was lots of cupboard and closet space for our clothes. The mini fridge to keep water cold was excellent and still water was replenished daily. You can also pick up the tetra packs of water in the fitness room. There are lots of fitness and wellness programs offered in 30 minute sessions to enjoy. We particularly liked the stretch class. The food. Where to start? All of the meals were great and multi course but properly portioned so as not to leave the table over stuffed. Thete were often passed appues during sip and sail. Sometimes a crispy element on the playe would loose it's crispness due to early preparations. I had dessert every day! The chefs table was lovely with delicious courses, wine pairings and white glove service but because it's on deck 2 at the back of the boat, it was a bit noisy. Wine or beer with lunch and dinner and the servers were generous and frequently topped up your glass. That coupled with the sip and sail cocktail hour kept our bar bill under 50 euros! Sip and sail is also when you're briefed on the next day's events. I personally am a very plain breakfast person so I preferred the lounge early risers offering that included scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, pastries, yogurt or fruit cup and then one other hot dish that changed daily (examples are eggs benny, burrito, avocado toast). Unlimited and very good cappuccino available in the lounge at the coffee and tea station was well used. Excursions offered lots of choices for everyone. We did mostly cycling and found the bikes adequate. It's worth your time to work with the staff to find the best bike to suit you if you plan to go more than 1 day. Our wellness host made sure we had the same bikes every time. We did 4 cycling excursions for a total of 85kms. Lots of great scenery and I think we saw more of the towns and surrounding areas. The walking tour we did was great but because there was a pretzel festival going on I would have preferred more time to eat pretzels and sample beer. On board entertainment was fine. A couple of decent performers but overall not the highlight of sailing with Ama. If you plan to be active during the day you're unlikely to be in the lounge very long in the evening anyway. On sailing evenings it was nice to be up on the sun deck. The sun deck was popular but you could always find a chair. A great place to be while sailing through the Unesco Rhine gorge and going through the locks. The pool was small but was very refreshing after one of the longer bike rides. I didn't go to the spa so no comments there. In general the team does a great job of gently guiding you through the day without you ever feeling rushed or managed. All of the staff are very well trained and very professional. River cruising is best suited to adults. Families on board appeared to have bored teenagers to deal with.

This was our first time on AmaWaterways and we were very impressed! The AmaSiena is a beautiful ship, with a great crew. The food was excellent from breakfast, to lunch to dinner. Our cruise on the Rhine included a pre-cruise in Zurich and Lucerne. Zurich is nothing special but Lucerne is not to be missed. Highlights included the Riquewihr excursion, Strasbourg, the Rhine Gorge, Rüdesheim and the Lahneck castle visit. Ship. The AmaSiena is a beautiful ship kept in top-flight condition. We spent most of our sailing time on the top deck taking in the views. Cabin. The cabin had plenty of room and space for suitcases under the bed. Bathroom was very nice. Frankly, you don't spend much time in the cabin on a river cruise, so we only used the balcony, which had two small chairs, a couple of times. Dining. Excellent all around. The service was outstanding and the staff was able to deal with every request. We found the food to be very good with plenty of options every day. The Chef's Table was outstanding and not to be missed. Evening cocktails were great. Staff. First rate, friendly and always able to accommodate special requests. Guides. We found the local guides to be excellent with one exception (Cologne).

Our AAA travel agent recommended AMA Waterways especially after we said we wanted active excursion options. We took advantage of that by going on 3 bike tours which were all great. The food was better than expected: there were no cafeteria lines only individual choices off of menus. The ship was very new and nice. Our room was nicely appointed and engineered with no wasted space and maximum efficiency. The crew and tour guides were all great! The only thing I would change is to replace the very small pool with what be a very large hot tub.

Our friends chose the cruise line and invited us to go with them and we are so happy that they did! Not only was the ship awesome, clean and had a very smooth ride, but every one of the people working on the ship - from the cruise director and the Captain to the waiters, servers, room attendants, front desk, etc. etc. too! And the food was tremendous, from made-to-order breakfasts to 5 course lunches and dinners in the dining room. These meals were highlighted by a dinner at the Chef’s Table at the front of the ship that was just indescribably delicious! All of the excursions were well planned, on time, with a variety of choices and walking pace. The trio who entertained us before dinner the night we were docked in Amsterdam were fabulous - 2 violins and a guitar. Wish we could have heard even more of their music! We definitely plan on returning someday to repeat this memorable experience!!
