Ship Reviews

Coughing and sneezing on lounge chairs next to us daily in the solarium pool area. Of course we left the ship and tested positive for covid at home. No air flow in the solarium. My recommendation stay far away from this germ filled air. Buffet food selection was poor. Not much to make a fresh salad. Food quality was like on Royal. Surprised not at the level we expected from Celebrity. Dining room waiters were excellent & attentive. Food in dining rooms were OK but small portions. Really? Why Celebrity?? Entertainment in the theatre was fabulous. Getting on the ship was easy. Getting off was easy. More parking garages in Ft Lauderdale cruise terminals required. Overall we felt like we were on a Royal cruise. Was not up to the standard we pay extra for being on Celebrity. With Celebrity cruise prices so expensive, not sure we will try another in 2025. Certainly not on the APEX.

This was my 2nd time on Apex and 5th on a Edge series and this time around this cruise rates #5 as it lack in a few areas. 1st- The cruise Director seemed to be tired and it showed that he was extended as he was not prépare and was not present in many areas. 2-lacking live bands at the pool and the Atrium. 3-Missing acts on shows we’ve seen on the Edge class ships. 4-They need to revamp cocktail menu in some venues as not the best tasting. The Goods in no specific order 1-The best buffet at sea 2-The flow of traffic is so good 3-Quick and fast embarcation. 4- Great Capitaine. 5-MDR food fresh and tasty. 6- Clean ship Great cruise overall like mentioned but it’s was lacking in entertainment compare to the last time we were on this same ship. This could have been because they are switching to Carrie a season and haven’t figured out yet all the final details.

This was our second time on the Apex for our family of three (me - 43, DH 40, and DS 9). Our first cruise was in March over Spring Break in the Retreat. This time we booked an OV to see how the budget experience stacked up. We were not disappointed! We booked the premium access package, mostly because the two premium wifi devices per person from the PA package were cheaper than a single premium wifi device per person booked separately. During check in, we had to enforce the perks, which I found odd. No one told us about the embarkation lunch and once onboard, when I asked, I was given the wrong info about both its location and start time. All in all, unless we were on a tender port intensive cruise or the wifi was cheaper than booked separately, I don't think this package is necessary or worth it. We were onboard very quickly, so if that's your thing, it does do that. Also we very, very rarely order room service so that perk doesn't matter to us. We found the embarkation lunch a bit chaotic and overall not great. Next time, we'd do one of the specialty places that's open instead. (No shade to the crew here - turnover day is nuts.) When we saw the room, we were a bit concerned because it was small. (Duh, but we didn't really realize since we have really only stayed in suites.) DH confirmed it was the smallest of its type. But once we got unpacked and settled, it was so functional that we really didn't miss the space . Unlike the sky suite we had in March, I couldn't functionally work in there. Which was fine, I just took my laptop to Cafe al Baccio or the front of the buffet. DH also didn't love that the shower head was a bit too low for him, but he's 6'6". Our son loved hiding in the little bench where the porthole was. We were in room and I had been concerned about noise, but it was totally fine. The rooms are in a hallway separate from the areas that go to the restaurants and martini bar, so it was not high traffic. Being so close to the kids club was convenient! My husband reported hearing some movement one night from the shop above us, but I heard nothing. Our room steward Elizabeth was like a ninja. I didn't see her too often, but she always managed to keep everything super clean. (We spend a lot of time in the room compared to others, I think.) The ship is beautiful. Looks exactly like the youtube videos. Our favorite places on the ship were Eden and Cafe Al Baccio. I was a bit worried I'd miss the retreat sundeck and lounge and I did some, but not $2,000+ worth. We did rent a cabana one day, which was fun. I would definitely do that again on a sea day. It was nice to have dedicated covered space. Otherwise, my son and I generally didn't have too much trouble finding space by the main pool. My husband preferred the solarium, which did fill up at times. The food and beverages were great. Again, I really thought we'd miss the retreat perks here, but we really didn't. Obviously, Luminae is outstanding and we did miss having wait staff that really got to know us, but the staff we met were all great and the good in the main dining room and buffet were very good. We ate at the buffet (breakfast and lunch) and Cyprus (dinner) the most. We had one lunch at the rooftop garden grill, which we all enjoyed on sea day. DH and I had dinner at Raw on 5, which is fun, and Eden, which is probably the best food on the ship in our opinion. The manager at Cyprus remembered my DH from our last cruise (I think) and always came by to check on us. And the quality of the buffet is truly amazing to me. Our son could live on the pizza at the back of the ship. Pro tip - we had the "late dining" because we booked this cruise within 90 days of sailing. Right after we got onboard, I went to one of the MDRs and asked if we could move to early or anytime. I was told just to go whenever we wanted. We did that and never waited more than a minute or two to be seated. As for drinks, I'm in the group that wishes Celebrity would do better with the wines. I couldn't find the premium package chardonnay anywhere. I was offered Decoy cab only once. The premium package rose was hard to find. When I asked for champagne (which was on the menu and included in my package), I was often served whatever bubbles were open. That said, options were abundant and the mixed drinks were good. Servers and bartenders were excellent. Oh, and don't sleep on the bar at Cafe al Baccio. Never seemed to be busy in the evenings, had a pretty good wine selection and made a really good espresso martini twist. The martini bar is excellent, but I don't care for the premixed cosmos. (X, fix that!) The bar at Eden also never disappointed. Their funky drink menu doesn't do much for me, but they make a fantastic old fashioned and had one of the best wine selections on the ship. We picked this cruise for two reasons. First, we mail in voted and I didn't want to be around. One of my best ideas ever. Second, I was jazzed about Grand Caymen an Coco Cay. Well, a storm prevented us from going to CocoCay so we went to Labadee instead. At first I was like, uh, RCCL/X, what are you doing?! Haiti is a State Deaprtment level 4 don't go. But I checked the state department website, which actually said Labadee is ok. (Search specifically for Labadee and not Haiti in general to find that page.) My husband also read about the security practices so we decided to see. It was so lovely. We went to the farthest beach on the tram driver's recommendation. (FWIW, it's not a very big place and we definitely could have walked it, but the tram driver's orientation was very helpful!) The beach was so beautiful. The water was clear and my son enjoyed seeing the fish. Would definitely go back. On GCI, we did the an excursion that snorkeled and made stops to see stingrays and starfish. Would definitely do that again. We loved it. Jamaica is also presently a state department level "reconsider travel", so we didn't get off. But it seemed like we were the only ones! People seemed to have had an excellent time. Finally, our cruise MVPs - the kids club. My son always loves going and playing video games with the other kids. Mey remembered us from March and was very kind. Disembarkation was a breeze. We had breakfast in the buffet and then self-disembarked. It might have taken 15 minutes to get from our room out of the terminal. All in all, we love the Apex. She's our favorite so far. We will be back on her in March!

We are Celebrity/Holland cruisers. We have more than 35 cruises. We love the food from these two companies. The Apex has mostly good food. The Buffet is defenitly above the competition regarding the quality and the taste, they even offer one lobter night and lobster rolls at one lunch. The 4 main dining rooms with different themes is a good concept, never experience line-up at any of them, but you do not experience the grandeur of a large 2 floors MDR. The prime rib is very good, the lobster night with the beef wellington is also excellent. They have to re-work the french oignon soup recipe, too sweet, too much bread in the soup and not enough oignon, and also the escargots bourguignon the taste/size/quality are not there. We tried 3 speciality restaurants, Raw on 5, The Fine Cut and the Eden. The Fine Cul is Excellent the Raw on 5 is normal nothing spectacular and dont waste your money at the Eden,,,, It started with the bread, at every restaurant even at the MDR they give you 3-4 types of bread, but at the Eden they give you one piece of lunch-box type of bread,,, the filet mignon is far away as good as the one from the Fine Cut,, my wife is a big fan of ceviche and was very disapointed of the ceviche as starter at the Eden, she had the lobster as entry and it was sweet??? we never had sweet lobster before and not very good. So the experience at the Eden was not great, they gave us 50% discount of the bill after we complainted. The pool deck is very nice and the size of swiming pool is the best on sea,, it is strange though to have the 2 hot tubs 2 floors above the pool deck, but these 2 hot tub are very big and they are real hot tub,,, not only bubble tub. Now the infinite veranda cabin, forget about balcony, you dont have balcony anymore, you have sea view cabin with a window that opens. It takes almost 2 full minutes to open the blind and the window and it is noisy, to close the window is a pain,,, it stucks, cling and clang, stuck again on the way up many times,, real pain. The captain simply lock close the window when it is windy,,, really,, infinite veranda cabin is not for me. I wanted to try it, that s it, never again. With a real balcony, I would have given 5 stars for that cruise. But the cabin itself is very nice,,, the bed is the biggest bed so far on the sea, the bathroom is also very big with a big big sink and a large shower. The gym is very good, very large and well equiped,, never had to wait for a treadmill machine As usual, the staff on Celebrity boat are exceptional
