Ship Reviews

4.5 star review for a wonderful time we had on this beautiful and thoughtfully designed ship. My wife and I are in our late 40s and have cruised almost ten times. Our trip was fabulous and just what the doctor ordered after a dreadful winter in the Northeast. Though there were a few quibbles here and there, overall the experience was fantastic and I would highly recommend the Apex. Individual areas are addressed below: 1. The Ship - Stunning on the inside and out with thoughtful, practical and beautiful spaces everywhere. There are charming design features throughout and some of the features (Eden, the walking track, the rooftop garden) are stunning and very well done. The ship does a nice job apportioning people and one can always find quiet spaces to relax. 2. The rooms - Nicely appointed infinite verandah room with great smart technology (e.g., using the app to open the blinds or set the temperature) and a relatively large bathroom. I liked the infinite verandah and think the tradeoff (more space, better interior views with a floor to ceiling window) are on balance worth the loss of normal balcony with its more "outdoors" feel. 3. Food - We ate very well over the course of the cruise. The buffet is the best buffet I've ever been to in terms of food quality and variety (and flow), including at the best Vegas hotels. The space is incredible with 25-foot floor to ceiling windows and they have almost anything you could ask for and the food is delicious and hot. The food in the main dining rooms was also excellent but the flow at peak dinner hours wasn't always smooth and service could be slow at times. We never had to wait for a table (unlike on some other cruise lines where we would have to wait 10-15 minutes for anytime dining), but sometimes it could take 10 minutes or so for a waiter to greet us and take our drink orders and then there would be subsequent gaps. The staff in the dining rooms were hustling but the kitchen appeared to be behind the curve. That said, service was excellent when we dined in the MDRs for breakfast and lunch or off-peak times. One minor complaint about the food: While overall the food was delicious and served hot, the strip steaks in the MDRs and the rooftop grill (a specialty restaurant we paid additional for) are absurdly thin (maybe 1/4 inch in the MDR and 1/2 inch in the Rooftop Grill). That didn't match the quality of the other offerings and may be more of a time-saving than a cost saving measure; either way, a steak shouldn't be almost as thin as a cold cut on a ship of this caliber. Finally, the burgers and hot dogs at the Mast Grill were delicious as was breakfast at the Eden Cafe that had wonderful outdoor seating. 4. Excursions - These were hit or miss. While the excursions were surprisingly affordable, our Key West walking tour was a bit disappointing as our tour guide spent half the tour complaining about how expensive Key West is and how hard she has to work to make her mortgage payments (likely an effort to get a better tip). I expected better from a cruise-affiliated tour. Our buggy tour in Grand Turks was a lot of fun but you had to do your own research regarding the sites we drove by (no audio). The Resorts World experience in Bimini was fine. You pay $35 and get a drink and a nice beach chair on a nice beach. In Puerto Plata we booked a tour through Viator (that was our favorite destination). 5. Entertainment - We saw a performance or two every evening and enjoyed the wide variety of offerings. The main theater with its wrap around 30-foot screen is incredible. The ship's shows were entertaining, and the guest performers did a nice job.

First time on a Celebrity ship. We are Oceania, Regent and Princess cruisers. Overall we loved the Celebrity experience. The ship was lovely, great food options, service was excellent and the entertainment was great. Our cabin however was very creaky and made noises from every single nook and cranny. Our friends traveling with us did not experience the same but they were on floor 12 and we were on 11 forward. This was a transatlantic crossing and we enjoyed really everything offered on this ship. There is a number of bars that can be frequented but we enjoyed the Martinis and the Il Bacio (both the main one and the one by the buffet). Service at the bars was a little inconsistent but I won't hold that against them. Besides the noise and creaks in the room, the bathroom is very nice and the shower was spacious. The bed is super comfortable. It was very odd that there are no outlets on one side of the bed. I guess that was poor planning when it was being built.

We enjoyed our third sailing on the Apex. For context, we are a family of three (me, 43; DH 41; and DS 9). We cruised on the 3/1 sailing to Key West, Bimini, Nassau, and Puerto Plata. Embarkation was quick and seamless. We had the priority access, but it didn't seem like anyone waited long in the terminal. We got on, dropped off our luggage in the room, and headed to cafe al baccio for a snack and first vacation drink! Don't sleep on the bar at cafe al baccio! Salted caramel martini for the win! As for premium access, we purchased the wifi version only as the app seemed to want to charge us the whole cost for the drinks version for our son. I hope X figures that out. At any rate, we do it for the wifi as we very rarely order room service and found the concierge lunch to be a bit overwhelming on our last cruise. This cruise didn't have any tender ports, so that perk didn't apply and we weren't in a hurry to get off the ship either at the end of the cruise. We had lunch at Le Grand Bistro. It was a nice way to slip into vacation mode while everyone was getting on board. I had a glass of champagne, a salad and some pate. We enjoyed it. Pro tip is definitely to take advantage of the specialty restaurants on Day 1. We had booked a specialty dining trio during an X sale so I went to Eden and made 2 reservations for dinner at Eden and a lunch at the rooftop garden grill. (We probably could have used the package for lunch at the Grand Bistro, but I didn't think to ask and wanted to do the RGG anyhow.) We stayed on the 7th deck aft in an infinite veranda. Previously, we had stayed in a sky suite and an oceanview on 3. Our preference in order: Sky suite (duh), OV and then the IV. I was well aware of the mixed sentiments on the IV and we found ourselves in the not fans camp, especially for the extra $. I thought we would appreciate the extra space over the OV, but it really didn't feel like the room was any bigger. I'll skip the reasons we didn't love it as there are many reviews already out there. That said, we are booked for an IV on the Beyond in June and I'm not upset about it. Would just prefer a different category next booking. (FWIW, we really loved our super cheap OV on 3 for the convenience of it and our son loved hanging in the porthole. You just have to check what is above and below you. We were below a shop, but some rooms are below the club.) As for food, yet another very solid X cruise. We had dinner in Eden the first night and again in the middle of the cruise. Best food on the ship (including Luminae) in our opinions. Well worth it, especially with the deals they run on the app and website. Luiz was server the first right and Carlos was the sommelier both nights. Good service. I had the gnocchi and lobster "casserole" both nights. My husband had the crab cake and wellington both nights. Excellent. The strawberry desert was our fave, though we tried several. Otherwise, we had dinner in Cyprus. We really like the design in that MDR and the service was always very good. Oslin was our sommelier and he was excellent. We were served by Bryan a couple of nights. The bartender Jayieh made the best amaretto sours according to my husband. One night the sous chef Khan came around to make sure we were all enjoying our meals. Hostess Supakkavee was very welcoming. Our favorite dishes were the short ribs and lamb shank (the cyprus specialties). I also loved the coquilles st jacque from Normadie. My husband tried the steak twice and found it to be... not great. Both times, the server saw that he wasn't enjoying it, apologized and rushed to get him something else. We also had lobster twice and I was impressed that it was very well prepared. (I truly expected it to be overcooked since it's really easy to do that, especially when serving so many people.) We also ate in the buffet a ton. Eggs benie for breakfast along . Love that Indian station, even for breakfast! Our son ate his weight in pancakes and pizza. We found the pizza on this sailing to be improved over previous ones as they were letting them crisp a bit longer. I also stopped by for "tea" one afternoon. I wish they had real finger sandwiches, but definitely not a big deal. Service in the buffet was very, very good. Always someone walking around offering to get you a coffee or glass of wine. Quick to clear plates, etc. The only meal we had that we found lacking was at the rooftop garden grill. I thought my food was good, but my husband found his food pretty average. The bigger issue was that it took 2 hours for lunch. No idea what was going on there, but it wasn't consistent with the rest of the ship experience. As for the ship, we love how modern it is and that it is generally pretty easy to find a space to hang out. The magic carpet is a fun place to watch the world go by. This cruise felt more crowded than our last, though I believe both were equally full (fully booked). This cruise seemed to have many more very elderly people and many more people with mobility issues than our prior cruises. Many more people seemed to not get off the ship, so it just made everything seem slower and more crowded. Really only an issue for getting a spot at the pool, which was difficult if you didn't engage in the early morning chair hogging bit. (This was the only thing I missed the retreat for, tbh, but since my husband and son don't spend too much time at the pool, not something that would make the extra $2,000ish for the retreat worth it for us.) Common issue for cruises, I know. Oh and on the topic of the pool, it seems X is now doing this "poolest day ever" thing on the last sea day. Think all inclusive programming. They also had these signature drinks which were priced above the premium package. It was super crowded, made worse cordoning off deck space for the band/dj/dancers. Some people seemed to be loving it; I did not. Vibe seemed off for X imo. I won't comment on the entertainment too much as we don't do much by way of the shows. We did see the bands and we enjoyed them, particularly the solo act and duo. I also stopped by the finish that tune game, which was super fun. I really wanted to see the aerial shows at Eden, but I'm lame and just don't stay up that late! On the all-important (and CC favorite) subject of drinks, I found the wine selection to be improved over the previous two cruises. I received champagne when I asked for it and didn't have to police getting the premium package chardonnay or cabernet. It wasn't until the last day when it seemed some very popular things (whispering angel) had run out in a couple of places. In a couple of instances if something wasn't available, I was offered the above-premium package option as a nice substitute. Also on the subject of drinks, we signed up for the wine tasting on the last full day of the cruise. This was a big miss for us. It was set up with stations to taste a variety of wines, but I didn't try anything that I thought was particularly interesting. Also there were maybe 50 people signed up, so it felt very crowded. Everyone but us seemed to enjoy it, but I wouldn't do this again. I feel like I could have created a similar experience at the buffet's cheese display with the drinks package I had already purchased. As for the ports, we enjoyed the itinerary. We had never been to Key West before and loved it. Stopped by the restaurant at the Hilton resort and had a really good lunch and excellent key lime pie. I also stopped at the rum bar and had a Hemmingway daquiri, which I recommend. We rented a golf cart and took a couple hour tour around Bimini. Stopped at the northern end and enjoyed the white sand beach there. I do see why Bimini gets mixed reviews. If you enjoy a golf cart, I recommend trying that out. Otherwise, if we went again, I would probably do the resorts world day pass if the weather were nice. (It was a bit chilly at 72 F that day; we were supposed to snorkel but we cancelled that.) We didn't get off in Nassau as we've been there several times and it wasn't all that warm. In Puerto Plata, I got off and enjoyed the sun and lazy river along with some drinks. Server was very prompt and pleasant. We also did Monkeyland in the port. We were the only ones who stopped in at the time, so we got the spider monkeys all to ourselves. Very fun. My son loved it. At 25ish bucks, I would probably do it even without our son. Last but absolutely not least - the MVPs of the Apex IMO - the kids club! I think Mey has been on all three times we have sailed the Apex. She is so lovely and so good with our son. Our son also enjoyed his time with Eve and Jessica. When we arrived back in FLL, we self-disembarked. Took our stuff and hung out at cafe al baccio one last time. Quick process off the ship, barely waited in line in the terminal. Uber situation was a bit nuts, but that's not X's fault. All in all, another great cruise on X, which we find to be a great value.

Port Everglades Terminal 25 is truly a beautiful experience especially if you are in a suite (Retreat)on Celebrity. Clearly marked by black and white signage on the poles near the terminal entrance the experience begins at about 10:15 am when you are escorted by private elevator to a lounge where you go through security and are check in by a rep with an I pad as you relax with a drink and some food. At about 10:45 am you are allowed to board and drop your belongings in your suite. Then soon after lunch in Luminae (private dining room for suites). We visited and signed into our muster station and later watched a short video in our room. Suites were incredibly clean and modern and high tech. Retreat sundeck (private) on deck 16 was wonderful with a bar, pool, hot tub and a lunch menu each day. Fruit skewers given out at 11 am along with ice cold face towels. Wonderful staff as was the case all over the ship. Fitness center was just below on deck 15 and was state of the art. Retreat lounge on deck 15 was light and airy with a full bar and snacks. Staff was very accommodating, with a dedicated concierge. Shops were great, and there was always entertainment somewhere onboard. Only one complaint--Luminae was too noisy each night during dinner! Acoustics need improvement especially with so many people drinking and getting louder by the minute. Tables were very close together so there was no escaping the noise. Went there at 5:30 to try to avoid the noise, but by 6 pm it was overwhelming. Food and service was delicious, and our waiter Bhavik was most professional and accommodating. Disembarkation was a breeze as we used luggage valet to Ft. Lauderdale airport and never saw our bags until Charlotte Airport. It was worth $29 each! Leaving the ship at 7:15 am was well organized and fast. All in all, a wonderful ship, crew and experience.

For our teen cruisers, the Teen Club is the place to be. At the Teen Club, they can make new friends and participate in events like video game competitions, teen parties, and culinary classes. Activities are overseen by our team of teen counsellors and offered throughout the day, allowing teens to come and go as they please.

Entertainment On Board

There’s no shortage of entertaining venues on board. Spend the day swimming in the pool with the kids, then watch the sunset while relaxing in one of our elevated hot tubs. Gather on board for movie night under the stars, silent disco parties, hot glass classes, and archery tournaments —so many activities to share. Don’t miss the views from the Lawn Club or the Resort Deck, which provides the ultimate backdrop for a picture-perfect family photo.

Family Friendly Excursions

One of the top reasons we’re one of the best cruise lines for families is because we offer an array of family-friendly shore excursions at over 300 port destinations. With activities varying from cultural tours to thrilling water sports, families will have no trouble finding a number of exciting excursions such as swimming with dolphins, hiking up volcanoes or glaciers, and strolling through ancient Mayan ruins.

Family Luxury at The Retreat

The Retreat is the ultimate luxury vacation experience on board. Families staying at The Retreat will not only enjoy a private sundeck*, but also spacious suite accommodations with expansive verandas and large lounge areas, where the whole family can comfortably relax and spend time together. Those traveling with multiple family members can stay at our Penthouse Suite or book one of our breathtaking Iconic Suites, which span over 2,500 square feet.

*The Retreat Sundeck available on Edge Series and Revolutionized ships.
