Ship Reviews

Pros: BLU dining room, comfortable beds, service, entertainment when available, value, disembarkation, muster drill, cleanliness, and Port luggage valet. Cons: Embarkation, Shore Excursion San Juan, lack of entertainment on central deck 3. Tuscan Grill, pre-printed gratuity envelopes. This cruise was excellent! Our last cruise was a Caribbean cruise on the MSC Seashore Yacht Club in November of 2025. This was our 22nd cruise, and our 1st on the Eclipse. We have previously sailed on the Solstice and Reflection many times and several Edge class ships. We were pleasantly surprised with the Eclipse, as our last cruise on MSC was a fabulous experience and thought this cruise might be disappointing. We were very impressed with this classy Solstice class ship. We were a party of 4 and have similar cruising experiences. We decided to drive to Fort Lauderdale on this trip. We stayed in Orlando at a Disney resort hotel for a few days and then rented a car to drive to Fort Lauderdale the day before the cruise. We stayed at the newly renovated Hyatt Place in Fort Lauderdale on 10th Avenue. The hotel was a very nice stay pre-cruise and included a very adequate breakfast the next morning. We signed up for the cruise shuttle when we checked in for a fee of $10 per person provided by Avanti Shuttle. The shuttle was on time at 10:30 am and took us directly to the port. Upon arrival porters met our van and quickly took charge of our tagged luggage. We walked to the terminal at approximately 10:45 am and there was no line for security. However we were detained at security with a piece of carry on luggage. They had us open luggage to search through items (2 of our party was able to continue through.) Eventually we were cleared but this took some time. When we went to check in they retook our photos again although we did the advance check in. Once through they were already boarding the ship. We were onboard the ship by 11:20 am. We were told that we could drop off carry on bags and pick up our keys outside of our cabin. We headed to the buffet for a really nice lunch and then proceeded to our muster check in area. (We had Aqua Prime cabins on Deck 11.) We decided to get a drink at Al Bacio while we waited for our cabins to be ready. Our cabins were ready at 1:30 pm and we proceeded to the Forward elevators as the main elevators were overcrowded. Our luggage arrived promptly and we met our cabin attendant. We were happy to see that Aqua cabins still included 2 bottles of water and a bottle of complimentary champagne. We unpacked and relaxed on our balconies until dinner. The balconies had adjustable deck chairs with footstools and a table. Although our stateroom didn’t have the latest technology the beds were super comfortable! Our attendant was excellent and came in twice per day. We looked forward to having dinner in the BLU, the Aqua class MDR. We had breakfast each morning in the BLU and most dinners. The service in the BLU was the best service we ever had on any of our cruises! It was EXCELLENT! The food was also very good. We could order off the MDR and BLU menus. The second day of the cruise we had lunch in the MDR (which was very good) and dinner at the Tuscan. Unfortunately, Tuscan was a bit of a disappointment. We thought the appetizers and desserts were excellent, but the main entrée (we all had the filet) was just okay. Our filets were overcooked and were not as good as the filet we enjoyed in the BLU the evening before. Restrooms are not near the Tuscan or BLU dining rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed eating at Murano on our 6th day! Wow! The food, service, and presentation were all excellent! We love the ambience and charm of the Al Bacio café and visited often. Service was a mixed experience there. Some staff were super attentive and others not very much. We had to go up several times even when it wasn’t busy to get our own drinks. I should also mention that none of us purchased a drink package. We found in the past it was not a good value for us. We used onboard credit to pay for drinks. Our bill for 8 days of drinks was $650 for the 4 of us. We are Elite members and do take advantage of the Captain’s Club free cocktail hours. The ship was well maintained. We often saw crew cleaning throughout the ship and consistently saw the crew encouraging people to sanitize their hands. There were hand sanitizers throughout the ship. There was a wide variety of entertainment offered on the ship. We thought the musicians that performed in the Ensemble lounge and central deck 3 were very good, but there was a lot of down time with no entertainment provided. There were 2 Chic evenings during the cruise and with a wide range of formal to informal attire. Lobster night in the dining rooms was offered the 2nd Chic night. We did go ashore in San Juan and purchased a city tour through Celebrity in advance. The ship’s pier was actually a very short walk to a main street, with a Walgreens and restaurants at the end of the pier. It was about a 1-block walk to get to our mini bus, which was crowded. Although they stopped every 15 minutes there was only 1 restroom stop that was about 3 blocks from our stop and was the 2nd last stop on the tour. Guides were unfamiliar with where restrooms were. I would check out an independent tour next time. I do want to mention that Celebrity now has pre-printed gratuity envelopes. They actually print amounts of gratuities on them. I liked that you could fill in cabin numbers and the recipient’s name, but didn’t like the preprinted dollar amounts. Disembarkation was a very easy experience. We had signed up for the Port Luggage Valet program the 3rd day of the cruise, which delivers your checked bags directly to the airport for a fee of $29. There are no additional fees for overweight bags. Our flight left at 11:45am so met the criteria to participate. The ship prints your boarding passes and luggage tags. We put our luggage outside of door by 10:00 pm the night before. We headed to the forward elevators around 6:30 am and with no problem got an elevator and then headed to the BLU for a good breakfast. We finished breakfast around 7:45 am and headed for the gangway that had no wait. Customs took just a minute or two and we were out of the terminal. We called Avanti shuttle (who brought us to the port) and they said they would pick us up in 10 minutes. About 8 minutes later their driver arrived and for $12.00 per person to get to the airport. The driver got us there without any problems, however there was quite a wait for TSA pre-check and going through security. Our worries that the Eclipse would be disappointing after experiencing the MSC Yacht Club experience just did not happen! The ship’s crew was wonderful and provided the relaxing cruise that we had hoped for. We definitely would book this ship again! Sorry Edge class ships, but the Solstice class ships still offer a better experience with the regular balcony staterooms and relaxing ship ambience!

This was our third cruise on Celebrity and we took two other couples with us. Overall our cruise was very good and the Eclipse was very clean. I did not see any areas that needed updating and love this size ship to cruise on…not too big and not too small. Really no lines to wait in and plenty of seats in main theatre. Entertainment was good, not great, although the ship band was great. Food in main dining was very good, service was excellent, and the dinner we had in Tuscan Grille was fantastic! Food in buffet was very good as well and service excellent. The ship was on time at all ports, and it was smooth sailing on the Eclipse! Couple negatives I will mention. First afternoon i met with main dining room assist maitre d’ to get a better round table for six people with assigned dining. Once again we were assigned a table (#145) stuck in a corner with limited access for waiters. The assist maitre d’ was not able to reassign our table and I think this was a matter of NOT WANTING to reassign us to another location. Basically he was not helpful! One other issue that one piece of luggage was initially dropped off at wrong ship and this was immediately noticed and Celebrity was informed. Celebrity assured guest (100% sure) that luggage would be transferred back to Eclipse before it sailed 4 hours later. That did not happen and the Guest was without many of their clothes the entire six days of cruise. Customer Service on Eclipse did not want to even pay to get the Guest’s luggage shipped back to their home address. So this was a big negative for Celebrity Eclipse Customer Service.

It was a very nice cruise, even considering that our stop in Key West was cancelled and our excursion in Cozumel was also cancelled - both due to weather. What made the cruise so enjoyable for my wife and me were the wonderful people we met on the ship. Our room was fine, the food overall pretty good and it's just a nice ship even if it is one of the older ones. We enjoyed the many trivia events where we met many great people and had lots of fun. The food in the main dining room was good enough that we didn't feel the need to go to any of the specialty restaurants. Our two servers in the MDR were absolutely spectacular. Both were so friendly and helpful and a joy to deal with. We also liked being placed at the same table each night and therefore got to know and enjoyed the company of our table mates.
