Ship Reviews

Having over 25 cruises under our belt, I can unequivocally say that this was the best cruise experience we have ever had! Never have we been so pampered! Nelson, our butler was beyond exemplary. Every need was quickly met, with grace and expertise. the Owner's Suite was lavish and so very comfortable, with more than ample storage and a wonderful verandah! We were served meals at a table for four both inside in the dining area and outside on the verandah. Having a full bath and a half was excellent! We took most of our evening meals in the Polo Grill where prime rib, whole Maine lobster, veal with lobster tail and various steaks with lobster tail were excellent! The overall ambience of the ship is like that of a fine country club..., no one hawking upgrades, photos or services! We enjoyed the four shore excursions we took, and found the experiences enjoyable and memorable. We heartily recommend Oceania, and particularly, the Nautica.

We last cruised Oceania in 2017, and found he cruise to be terrific. This time, my husband thoight the food wasn't good in the main dining venues, especially the meats and steaks/ We had a penthouse suite which was spacious and nicely decorated, when you consider that this ship is over 25 years old (Rennaisance line). This cruise was on the St Lawrence seaway starting in Montreal. The ship dock in Quebec was well located and we were able to walk the old section before the rains came, ( number of tours were cancelled that day). Sanquenay, New France tour of an old movie set was wonderful due to the reinactors. The tour leaders in Baie Comeau, St John and St George really gave you a sense of the history and life styles of the area. The only misses were Sept-iles and Peggy 's Cove in Halifax. Sept-iles woul have been a hit, the community operates a hop on bus for cruise ships, but forgets to warn you that the service is inconsistent. We toured the Old Trading Post (a must) for the area. We took the nature and indigenous people's walk form the Post, but had to wait over an hour, standing up, for a bus to go to the next attraction. (30 minutes is promised) We were too tired to go any further, but did receive a refund. Peggy's Cove in Halifax tour is a rip off and is nothing more than a scenic overlook. It was raining, and crowded with other tours with no place to spend the time allotted. Also it was just rocks and a 15 foot lighthouse in a 3/4 acre area. We could not get to Corner Brook ue to rough seas. Harve St Pierre had just a small museum but was woth visiting. The entertainment staff of six people was adequate, and the entertainment was varied. The clasical band was wonderful, and played duing the aternoon teas.

What can I say they over promised and under delivered. We are experienced cruisers and have tried a number of cruise lines, over the last 20 years. We were on the Cunard Queen Mary in May, we have been on Royal Caribbean, crystal, Holland America, and we have traveled on Norwegian cruise line from Boston to Bermuda just about every year since 2004. On this cruise there were many pro’s and con’s. We live just outside of Boston and it is easy to take a cruise from here for us, and this cruise offered Boston to Bermuda on a smaller ship that was going to dock in downtown Hamilton, and in St. George. Other ships are too large and instead are at the Dockyard at the far end, and you need a ferry ride to get to the sites on the island. This was one of the main reasons we booked this cruise and It did not disappoint. I cannot say enough about the crew, they were outstanding in every way. The room stewards we had we the best ever, they seemed to be everywhere and had our room in immaculate condition twice a day. We really appreciated the twice a day service where other cruise lines have dropped it to once a day. The service in the restaurants was excellent though at times they seemed stretched a bit thin. We had a concierge cabin which offered laundry, but we were told it could take three days to get it back. We used the complimentary self serve laundry. There were ample machines, and it worked well for us. We could pack less. The lack of activities was glaring, we had almost three full sea days with little going on around the ship. We did enjoy the long list of movies on the TV in our cabin. The TV offerings were larger than most cruise ships with movies, TV shows, documentaries and music channels. The three production shows were very good, but the shows were held only once at 9:30pm, it was very late for most. The library was a dream, lots of comfortable chairs, and a large selection of of great books. There was an excellent string quartet that played each afternoon and a piano player in Horizons but often quite late. A steel drum player around the pool one afternoon. My husband attended one lecture on Bermuda, there was one more. I understand there was some trivia, but overall it seemed very quiet. Our cabin, the bed was extremely comfortable and luxurious with 1000 count sheets, the towels were thick. There was lots of storage, and a good size closet. But the cabin was just too small, 160 sq ft. The bathroom was almost unusable, and we are average size, it was so small, the shower was only 2 feet at it’s widest with a sloping wall. Ironically there was lots of storage, just no room for people. Oceania trademarks “Finest Cuisine at Sea”. So they set our expectations high, but in fact the food was pretty much the same as mainstream cruise lines. We ate in the main dining room where the table settings were incredible, with thick linens, fine china, crystal and silver. The service was stretched a bit thin in the dining room, but still quite good. The food was fine but not really special. We ate in Polo Grill, the food was no different than the main dining room, but the service was more attentive. One exception I ordered the Maine lobster, it arrived split down the middle top to bottom, with very little tail meat, and it was stringy and chewy. Same with the claws, very chewy. I could not eat most of it. My husbands did not feel his filet mignon was as good as that on mainstream cruises. We were unable to get reservations in Toscana for just the two of us at a reasonable time, before 8:30pm so we never went. Having unlimited specialty restaurants does not work out very well. We heard this from other’s too. The buffet was just OK. They serve you, and so often you had to wait for someone to come over to serve you the food causing back ups. There seemed to be less selection of salads and other items, but the ship is much smaller than we are used to so it makes sense. They seemed to cater to more European tastes, but we always found something we liked. They had exceptional bread in every venue. The deserts did not appeal to us, but the ice cream was excellent, they had a different flavor each day from the luxury brand Humphry Slocombe. We went to tea twice, very nice experience, sitting by a window enjoying being served by gloved waitstaff in the afternoon. The scones were outstanding. We choose the basic drink package, but it came with limitations. You could get wine, or beer in certain venue’s during meals. So unless you were eating the only place you could go was the bar in the buffet if you wanted a glass or wine during meal times. The buffet had limited hours, which surprised us, they were often closed. We used room service for breakfast but it was available all the time. There were soft drinks stocked in our cabin refrigerator, and lots of luxury Vero water. The dress code of resort casual leaves plenty of room to dress for dinner if you want, and most did. We enjoyed the atmosphere all week. The ship is beautiful, the staff and crew could not have been better. But Oceania would not be our first choice when cruising. We missed the many activities, and live music found on most cruises.
