Ship Reviews

Overall we thought the cruise was very good. Staff were excellent, very efficient and friendly. Food overall was excellent with the exception of Tascana, we felt the food there was tasteless, the Italian food had better flavours in Horizons, even though the chef in Tascana was from Italy, also there was no atmosphere you could have been anywhere, Toscana didn't stand out for us. Liked Polo Grill food and service even cancelled our remaining Toscana booking to swap to Polo. Entertainment was poor, quite amateurish really even the special guests weren't special, although we thought Cameo Rascale where the best performers of the cruise. Embarkation in Singapore was a farce, with people being taken to the wrong cruise port and the having to join long queues to get paperwork sorted. There needed to be better priority given to disabled passengers rather than having people joining the usual lines. The ship was well maintained even though it's ageing. Passengers need to be told to use the hand sanitisers as there were people just walking in the restaurants which is a risk to everyone on the ship and dress code in the Main Restaurant needs to be adhered to, again the ship restaurant managers need to ensure this otherwise standards will drop. Itinerary was quite different for us, we saw things we never expected to see, plus we managed to walk to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge which was one of the main reasons for our trip. We were lucky with the seas being mainly calm, early days on the cruise were hot and humid temperatures only calming down once we got towards New Zealand. Our first time with Oceania, we liked the standards, quality and service, maybe next time on one of the newer ships.

I enjoyed this ship because of its size. I travelled before on a Viking River cruise and thought I would like to try a smaller cruise ship such the Regatta. The staff and crew were exceptional in their attention to my needs. The ship was spotless. The food delicious in all venues. I did enjoy the intimacy of the smaller Toscana and Polo Grill restaurants though the Grand Dining Room, for as large as it was, still had an intimate feel. I used room service each morning and for several dinners as well. Food always arrived hot and on time. The excursions I took, for the most part, had informative guides. I think because the Alaska cruise isn't year round and the guides are seasonal there is a different level of maturity vs. Viking where the guides are year round. This is not the cruise line's fault it's just the nature of the employment pool for a relatively brief summer job. Alaska is such a beautiful state and I would travel again on the Regatta to experience other excursions.
