Exciting adventures await aboard Caribbean Princess following her multi-million-dollar array of luxurious enhancements. From staterooms that offer a more restful sleep, to endless tempting new dining options, the newly reimagined Reef Splash Zone for kids and families plus other upgrades, you’ll find Caribbean Princess herself has come back new.
The ship was in great shape; the crew were wonderful and our stateroom attendant was excellent. We loved the itinerary and loved the ship. All the shows were great and the Voice of the Ocean was a hit. This is our second time on Caribbean Princess and it did not disappoint. We ate dinner in main dining room and food was very good as was the service. Our favorite place to stop was international Cafe. Food and coffee was good. Lots of activities going on in the atrium deck 5. We ate lunch at buffet and a few breakfasts. The food was hot and salad bar was very nice. The waiter service for drinks could be a little slow; but not that big of a deal. We took one shore excursion in Grand Turks and it was well organized and fun. All in all this was a great trip for my wife and I
This was our 8th cruise on Princess and 16th overall. We had been on this ship before it was remodeled, and it looks new. Hard to believe it is 21 years old. This was also the friendliest staff ever. Embarkation was a little strange. In the past, Platinum members had priority; now everyone gets on around 10:30 and has to hang around for three hours (while dragging luggage) until cabins are ready at 1:30. Our cabin was mini-suite and it was spotless, quiet and very comfortable. Really liked the full size couch, bathroom with a tub and extra television. Kudos to the baggage handlers who got our suitcase to the right cabin after the handle broke off that had the luggage tag attached. Cabin Steward Mark was terrific, always had the cabin looking clean and great. Very friendly guy. Food: This was our first time enjoying Reserve Dining and it was worth it. No reservations necessary, food was off the charts. Head water/manager Nicolas checked with us every meal and our waiters from Nigeria & India (sorry, didn’t write down names) were top notch. Tenderloin so tender you could cut it with a butter knife. Chocolate desserts were amazing and this chocoholic enjoyed them all. The buffet on the Lido deck was remodeled into a bunch of little islands that are incredibly organized. One had bread, one had fruit, one had salads, etc. You never had to wait. Food was always good and hot. Also, a ton of extra tables in the back of the ship meant there was always a place to sit. The pizza at Slice was really good. Thin, crisp crust, great cheese & plenty of toppings. Made this New York Italian very happy. The free ice cream cones were very good as well. Entertainment: Well, you’ve got a problem when the Cruise Director is funnier than the comedian on board. The “mentalist” was really lame. There was a show in the main theater we skipped featuring a guy on a piano. Then he showed up again a few nights later in the same venue. Seriously, on a six night cruise you can’t have six different shows? Some great shows in the past featured a hypnotist and a magician. We never went to any of the production shows. After so many cruises, every salute to Broadway/Hollywood/Opera begins to look the same. I know the performers work hard and are talented, but give them some new material. (And not that weird Secret Silk disaster.) The most entertaining thing was the morning show put on by the kitchen staff. Absolutely hilarious. Ports: First stop was Nassua, and we just walked around town. It had rained in the morning so it was really humid. But what made things difficult was that there were six cruise ships in the port at the same time. You’d think cruise companies could coordinate this better. Took a tour in the Dominican Republic and it was really good. Went to a gorgeous cathedral and actually stopped at a cigar factory where cigars are rolled by hand. Had lunch at a cute restaurant. Tour guide Alexis was excellent sharing a lot of history of the island. Sadly, the stop at Grand Turk had to be missed because of high winds and rough seas. The captain made the smart call, safety first. Disembarkation: We decided to walk off for the first time, tired of sitting in a lounge waiting for our color to be called. I signed up to walk off at 7:20am. And at 7:20, on the dot, we left the ship. In the car and on the road by 7:40. Saved probably three hours. No more searching for your bags, climbing over people. Will never leave the ship any other way in the future. Hey, Princess! This section is for stuff the cruise line might consider. Noise: I miss the days when you could have coffee in the atrium (piazza) and play cards or just have a conversation. Now the constant parade of “entertainers” play music so loud you can’t hear yourself think. Once I took the stairs down from our cabin. I could hear the music when I reached the eighth floor, and the bands were located on the fifth. Iced tea: Princess continues to serve the most God-awful iced tea on the planet. The Brits are experts on hot tea, but the cruise line needs an American to take care of the cold stuff. (Try Luzianne.) Platinum “benefits”: Well, they’re now non-existent as far as we’re concerned. Used to have priority embarkation. No more. Used to get enough internet minutes to at least check email. No more. Apparently a discount on outrageously priced internet is considered a benefit. Even though we like Princess, there’s no reason to show loyalty in the future, so we’ll consider other lines as well. The App: Even if you didn’t buy the internet package, you were supposed to be able to use the app to make reservations, see what’s going on, etc. Could never get the thing to connect in our cabin. The “Library”: Shocked to find a total of ten books in the library. Yes, ten. Tons of empty shelves. Did you throw the books out? Sacrilege!!! The library used to be packed. I’m an author of 26 novels, but I don’t read ebooks. Please, re-stock the library. What’s the point of a room with empty shelves? Memo to men under 40: Princess, I know you can’t do anything about this, but guys, does the term “formal” in “formal night” mean you should wear a short sleeved shirt, docksides with no socks or walk into the dining room with your shirttail out? What part of “formal” do you not understand? Trust me, the women in your life like to dress up… would it kill you to wear a jacket and tie for a couple hours? I’ve never seen such a poorly dressed bunch. Bottom line, solid cruise, great food and service, but bring your earplugs and something to read.
