Recently cruised on the Enchanted Princess for 10 days (1/29/25 – 2/8/25). We departed from Port Everglades and the planned stops were: Princess Cay, St Thomas, St Maarten, Antigua, St Kitts, and Grand Turk. Note: Grand Turk was cancelled due to high winds. We had a sea day followed by Nassau added as a replacement stop. We have cruised 20-ish cruises across multiple lines We booked an inside guarantee cabin with the standard package. Our cabin was assigned on the M Marine deck forward just above the bridge and 1 deck below the Lido. It was a good location with easy access to the pool and food. Overall: We determined 10 days was the right length of cruise for us. At 7 days the cruise still felt new. By day 10 we were ready to disembark. The ship was very clean and the staff consistently attentive and polite. Our fellow cruisers were older than I anticipated. I would guess the median age was 75. We are late 50s so were clearly some of the younger people on the ship. My guess is this was because it was a 10 day cruise and working people may not get that many consecutive days off. There is no public access to view from the front of the ship. You either need to have a front facing cabin or pay to be in the Sanctuary. I enjoy watching the ship come into and leave the harbor. No arrival/departure viewing for me this cruise from the bow. Bring cough drops and some type of cough medicine. About day 6 the massive, uncovered coughing began and was spreading. Food The food was outstanding. Although we had booked main dining room reservations prior to embarkation, the time never seemed to work for us. We ate 8 dinners in the World Fresh Marketplace (buffet) and 2 dinners in the main dining room. The service in the main dining room was very rushed and took A LONG time. We were glad to have our meals at our own time and pace in the buffet. The main dining room menu is mostly offered in the buffet and the buffet includes a lot of additional choices. The pizza and chicken sandwich served poolside were very good. Pools Through Cruise Crutic I learned about the FREE Retreat adult-only pool on Sun Deck 17 forward. It is tucked away and I needed to seek it out. It “looks” like a private pool for some guests but it is accessible to all. It is just in front of the for-fee Sanctuary area. I enjoyed sea days here. I am up early and every day watched the same folks arrive on deck about 7am to reserve their lounge chairs next to the main pool. In my experience I always found a lounge chair available but I was not looking for a chair in the direct sun near the pool. Entertainment The dance band and electric violins in the atrium were good. The Irish singer duo (now left ship) were excellent. The rest of the music entertainment was very sedate background music. There were only a few comedy shows. In June 2024 while on the Grand Princess in Alaska it was announced that Princess was making a commitment to adding more comedians and branding it “Laugh Lounge.” (The logo and introduction are copied and modified from their sister cruise line Carnival.) I anticipated more comedy. I hope Princess continues to invest in this comedy entertainment. ALL shows were standing room only and some folks could not get in. Lots of game shows and trivia. Movies under the stars were good. We watched 2 or 3 of the movies.
We were on a 20 day B2B cruise. This is the second time we have been on the Enchanted Princess. Not our favorite cruise ship but chose because of itinerary. The ship as best I can describe is chopped up. Can't get to Amalfy DR or 6 without going to 7 and then down. Little outside space on the Prominade deck. Chopped up into three sections. No inside view looking forward or looking aft, wake view area aft on 16 & 17 outside. One side of the Piazza on 7 is booked due to Sabatini's. Just not a well-designed ship for common areas. We found the food in the MDR to be very good. Fewer choices than in the past but generally good choices. The only problem we found was that we wanted to do traditional dining or at least share a table with others. The first 10 days we reserved 6:20pm shared table in Amalfy. For 10 days we were not able to share a table. The 2 seat tables did generally have 2 seat tables on either side but often they were finishing dinner and we were starting. Second 10 days I went to the Maitre D first day a 5:00pm and asked to share a table at 7:30pm in traditional dining which we did. Why can't you reserve traditional , shared table at 7:30pm. Many multi-seat tables were empty at this time. We found the service to be excellent. We did specialty once in 20 days, Rudi, it was very good. Did 2 casuals which came with the Plus package at the Sushi venue for lunch, very nice. Sound levels at the theatre, pool and other venue unacceptable. We wanted to hear a violin duo at the Vista. Great violinist's but the background music was so loud it drowned out their performance. At one performance in the theatre people were walking out. The sound level at times was over 100 DB. I have an AP on my phone. Why?? We had a mini-suite, first time, and were very happy with the room. The room steward was great. There is no dress code on the Enchanted. Formal night shorts, non-collared shirts and flip flops were admitted. It is what it is. The pool area was nice except for some events that were so loud you could not talk to one another. Yes, chair hogs were out with towels on at 8:00am or before. In spite of this we were generally able to get a chair most days except for sea days. We had plus package. Never used the Medallion AP to order anything. The specialty deserts is a joke, We share one 2 times in 20 days. Though did just get gelato a few times in place of the big sundaes. Lastly, embarkation and debarkation was a snap.
This ten-day cruise on the Enchanted was our first Princess cruise, although we have at least thirty other cruises under our belt. We found many appealing features on this cruise, but it also showed us that most mainstream cruise lines like Princess are more alike than different. We embarked at Fort Lauderdale after a pre-cruise night at Rodeway Inn and Suites, which is a reliable hotel. This time, unfortunately, the air conditioning was just blowing air and so we were uncomfortable all night. Their staff is often confused (we had three women somehow attached to our booking.) They have a decent breakfast but no cable news. Their highlight is a very reliable shuttle service to the port. There is no place to walk from Rodeway so you had better like their restaurant or call a taxi. The shuttle was early so we were off 15 minutes early. The traffic was crazy because of so many ships (7?) leaving that Saturday. The line moved quickly, and we first went through security on the first floor, and then the embarkation process was on the second floor. We picked up our medallions and moved on to the ship shortly after 10:55. Medallions are really a great invention. Kudos to Princess. We were allowed to leave our small bags in our cabin and then did the muster drill and had lunch. We also made dining reservations at a specialty restaurant but many of the dates and times were full. Cabin: We chose an inside cabin on Caribe, Deck 10. It was quiet and a good aft/mid ship location. It was quite small, and the bathroom was perhaps the smallest we had ever seen on a cruise ship. It was just fine, the TV worked well, and the bed was comfortable. The pillows were the downside- quite hard. Our attendant did a fine job of taking care of our room. Food: Buffet: the buffet is pretty well organized, with most of the standard fare you would expect. Nothing exceptional. Breakfast was good and varied. The best thing was the often missing cranberry oatmeal cookies. Drinks such as coffee, tea and lemonade were only available in two stations. For the breakfast time, the servers did a good job of offering coffee at the table. Lunch and dinner were not as well attended by the servers. Main Dining Room: We requested standard dining but were placed at our own table. We asked the staff if they could put us at a table of 6-8 and were accommodated the next evening. The first person we met was a Princess cheerleader extraordinaire, and her first task was to tell us how to achieve the best perks…after 20 Princess cruises. On the third night, an elderly couple didn’t come because the woman was ill in the medical center. Her daughter said she had a cold, but the doctor prescribed antibiotics and a nebulizer….sorry, honey, she has an infection. Her daughter assured us that the woman was tough and would be there the next night. That’s when we decided to change to the Capri dining room that accepted walk ins. We enjoy staying healthy and not sitting with people who should be isolating for a while. We ate the rest of the nights at the Capri with other nice people at a shared table. The selections on the menu always had something we enjoyed. I ate mostly fish. The food was good to tasty. Nothing extraordinary. The service was always good. We learned not to eat dessert there because they just weren’t worth it. There were two formal nights and the second one was more special with surf and turf and escargot. Specialty Dining: The Crown Grille We ate at the Crown Grille for my husband’s birthday. The service was excellent, but the food was disappointing. We have eaten at other specialty restaurants on other cruise lines and they were consistently exceptional. Not so with this one. The filet mignon was a poor grade, and the sides were okay but not warm. The Caesar Salad was so small and with minimal ingredients. The bread was not high quality nor were the desserts. Entertainment: What a mixed bag. The first night’s theatre entertainment was a saxophone player. We didn’t attend. We very much enjoyed both True Colors and Excite, which almost always played in the atrium or piazza. As dancers, we would have preferred dancing in their lovely Vista Lounge, which was NEVER used for dancing despite having a very nice dance floor. It was their comedy club and game show center. We were told that the Enchanted’s additional dancing floor on deck 7 was removed to expand the casino’s no-smoking area. To their credit, both the bands in the atrium played the genre of music that had been taught in dance lessons that day. Very commendable. People seemed to enjoy the Irish pub with the wonderful Pint of Plain band but it is so small and could accommodate so few people. The pub is also right next to the atrium, so the band couldn’t play if anything else was going on there. Bad location for such a popular place. Some comedians were very good, and some were mediocre. You can’t predict. The two jugglers were okay. The first had a rather depressive personality. The second was silly and playful. The Superbowl took place in the theatre on Sunday, so that day was strange for those who wanted something different. There are three production shows during the ten days. The first was Spotlight Bar, the weakest of the three. 5 Skies, the second production show, was exceptional with the set and special effects. All the singers and dancers shined in this performance. Rock Opera never happened because the sound equipment “blew up” for the last two nights. Princess took the comedian from Vista and quickly made him the feature in the theatre with just a hand-held mike. The last night’s finale was also canceled, and the cruise director just couldn’t get it together to coordinate the shows. For example, the Karaoke Wars appeared to have no one willing to sing. We left after the start when no one was on stage, the crew member fumbling on his computer on stage, and the rest of the audience left the room. Princess did pull three groups together (house band, show band Excite, and the violinists for a show in the atrium. It was nice, but there was no dancing there either. There were other soloists or individuals around the ship that offered nice background music each day. They were all fine, if easy listening while you sip a drink is your thing. One performer put on a solo show, “A Tribute to the Music of Ed Sheeren. I had never heard of him, but the artist, Sean Coleman has little showmanship and was amazingly boring. Ed Sheeran should sue him. Cheaza was a very talented and spirited vocalist who put on an excellent show in A Tribute to Whitney Houston. “Elvis” wasn’t the best Elvis impersonator, but he put on an entertaining show with some silly, wild behavior. Crew Like most cruise ship staff, the crew worked very hard and were very pleasant. We rarely saw any officers. The cruise director was new and seemed like a nice guy, but most of his staff was often not exceptional. The one who is to be commended is Terry, who we watched give a very well-presented dance lesson. He was kind, patient, and a gentleman. The other teacher is a polar opposite of him. The other teacher screamed at any dancers who made a mistake and then said, “Love you…” in a sarcastic tone. He seems to think he is quite funny. Ports of Call: The ship managed the ports well. We took one ship excursion to Dominica and it was one of the better ship excursions we have been on. They used smaller vans since a large bus can’t handle Dominica’s roads. The country is lovely. We had been to the other ports, so generally walked around the towns. Most were very pleasant. The port of Antigua is a dump. If you have any physical challenges, consider that their sidewalks and streets are in horrible condition. Grand Turk has a free beach to the left of the dock. It was lovely. If you want a cabana, you will find them at the first set of chairs. After the cabanas, you will find very nice free loungers, many under palm trees. Look for the sign that tells you the beach chairs are free! Passengers: In the winter, you can expect that the majority will be above age 70. It seemed more like a Holland America ship where the typical activity is being a chair hog who secures the prime chairs and loungers by 6:30 AM. They enjoy the pool area during the day and then sit in one chair the entire evening, listening to a band and sipping drinks. To be honest, except for the Central and South American crowds, the typical passenger on this ship was more standoffish. Some struck up conversations, but many just wanted to sit quietly and be left alone. Most cruise lines attract a more outgoing crowd. There were many Elite and high-status passengers on this ship, many who stayed onboard in ports because of physical limitations. One elite cruiser told me what she likes best about Princess is that their ships are laid out the same and she doesn’t get confused. I don’t know if this is true. Especially nice The ship scheduled a Christian Bible Study time each morning at 8:00, which was led by a very knowledgeable man. Many cruise lines won’t allow this anymore, although they do accommodate self-led religious events for the Jewish Sabbath and Muslim prayer time. Disembarkation The process was very smooth and easy. We chose to have our large suitcase out by 10 PM the previous night and selected 8:50 AM as our time for the next day. We sat in the atrium until we got the call to disembark and it was very quick. We were going to take UBER to the airport, but there was a shared taxi for $11 right pp as we left the terminal. It worked out great to FLL. As you plan, consider that you can’t get through security until 4 hours before the flight. Wow! The terminal was packed with security lines that were so long. At one point, the lines extended to outside the terminal. People reported the worst timing was 1 and ½ hours to 2 hours for the regular lines. We had a bad experience recently in Orlando in January and almost missed our flight, so we purchased TSA precheck last month. Our experience was zippy and took maybe 10 minutes. After watching some people running to their gates, I realized that everyone should consider TSA precheck. One thing to consider is how many ships will be at port. There were quite a few at FLL that morning. You can find this info on various websites like Cruise mapper. Conclusion As Midwesterners who left and came back to the snow, cruising in the winter is a real treat. We feel that Princess offers a very good product, but then we have the same impression of the other six cruise lines we have experienced. We have only been on one inferior cruise out of over thirty. Princess cheerleaders are very dedicated and shouldn’t influence the average cruiser. I doubt I will be taking another 19 cruises on Princess to achieve the elite status, so it would be a foolish decision to just book Princess. We book for itinerary and price and the general reputation of the cruise line and ship after lots of research.
