Wonderful ship, excellent space design, great pool area, top deck was loaded with activity areas, putting greens, driving range, shuffle board, boche ball, ping pong, tennis. Dining areas are very nicely done, great decor. Art throughout the ship is outstanding. Concierge suites are excellent, shower separate from bath, big bath, great shower. Room was nicely layed out, tons of storage. The ship layout is designed exceptionally well. Rooms are well insulated from noise as compared to Viking. Service was good, not excellent, in restaurant and bar areas. A very noticeable decline from previous sailings. I think in the headcount reduction they may have gone too far. Cuisine was very, very good, again a noted decline from previous sailings. Previously I rated the cuisine as excellent to outstanding. We are sailing on the Grandeur again for 18 nights in Jan 2026 I trust some things will improve. The ship is gorgeous, well designed and a real pleasure to sail on her. Look forward to the next Regent cruise
My husband and I have cruised on Regent, Silversea, Seabourn, Crystal, Oceania, Celebrity and Scenic. We’ve found that not only is every cruise line different (even within its own category) but every cruise itself is different. You will never have the same passengers with the same crew with the same weather on the same dates at the same time on the same boat ever again. I say that because in reviewing a cruise, we try hard to focus on things that are not unique to our specific cruise but rather give a glimpse into the actual brand experience. This review was particularly difficult as our most recent cruise was on Scenic which we found to be an unmitigated dumpster fire on a garbage barge on its best day. Because that experience was so bad, we were concerned that our review of Regent Grandeur would be artificially positive as anything is better than Scenic, a leaking kayak in the middle of a hurricane, anything. This was our third Regent Cruise as we’ve sailed previously on Splendor and Navigator. Our experience on Splendor was lackluster but it was in the tail end of the pandemic and thus we understood that Regent may not operating on all cylinders so to speak. What also dampened our experience on Splendor was that a group of passengers were from a country club and this was a “getting to you know you girls’ trip”. As it turned out, they didn’t really enjoy getting to know each other. We then sailed on Navigator and loved the experience. We’d heard good things about Grandeur and so we decided to give Regent another try. Our experience on Grandeur felt like Regent operating at its best. From embarkation to disembarkation, everything ran smoothly. Were there any areas for improvement? Sure and we will get to those, but overall, our experience on Grandeur was pretty flawless. A moment on embarkation. It took five minutes, FIVE MINUTES, to go from the Uber to sitting at lunch onboard. It was that fast. Disembarkation was a similar experience. In fairness to Regent, I am not sure how they could improve on that. Just image if DMVs could operate with that level of efficiency? Interior design is very taste specific. That said, we find that Regent has stunning and stylized ships. Grandeur is no exception. What we liked about Grandeur is that it improved on its sister ship Splendor which, at least to us, felt dark in various spaces. Grandeur is light and bright nearly everywhere. The only critique we have on the design of the ship is that the pool deck can get overly crowded for an ultra-luxury line and there are a few lounges that seem to exist for no discernable reason (we are looking at you Meridian Lounge and Grandeur Lounge). Regent should consider having separate pools like Explora or changing its deck design similar to Silversea Nova and they should brighten the spaces for Meridian Lounge and Grander Lounge and reimagine how the spaces are used. A happy crew can make or break a cruise experience. We have been on cruises before where the crew put off a “prisoner of war” vibe. On Grandeur, the crew was exceptionally happy and, touchingly, extremely proud of Grandeur itself. Everyone, from room attendants to servers were eager to brag about the ship. The only area where I felt the crew fell short was the entertainment staff. Regent often uses its entertainers to be something like roving ambassadors onboard the ship. On Grandeur, they did roam about but didn’t really appear comfortable interacting with guests. They weren’t rude but they were a bit awkward in approaching guests. Picture a dance in an elementary school where people are standing on opposite sides looking at each other. It was that sort of awkward. Just as décor is taste specific so is food. In the past, we’ve found Regent to offer solid, if not staid, “country club” fare but it is clear that Regent has been trying to improve its culinary offerings as each restaurant on Grandeur has expended menus with new and creative dishes (pumpkin Thai soup in Compass Rose, spicey lamb chops in Pacific Rim, etc.) For example, we felt that Chartreuse was so lackluster on Splendor that we weren’t planning on going there on Grandeur but after lunch there, we were hooked and made sure we did have dinner there. And unlike Silversea, Regent doesn’t charge a fee for its specialty restaurants. The Thanksgiving Day Grand Barbeque on the pool deck was an embarrassment of culinary riches. Where the food does fall short is lunch. Neither the pool grill nor La Veranda offer food that matches the culinary talents you find at dinner. What is a head-scratcher is that Oceania (also owned by Regent’s parent company) offers an amazing lunch. So why Regent falls short there is really a great mystery…like the mysteries of the universe. The onboard daily entertainment isn’t really impressive unless you like bingo or trivia games. Here Regent remains stuck in 1975. However, Regent offers unlimited included excursions and so we were rarely on the ship during the day. I do want to note two things about the daily routine. One, the gym on Grandeur is excellent. My husband and I work out daily (weight train and cardio) and the gym on Grandeur was so well equipped that once we returned home to our athletic clubs, we could tell bodies didn’t feel like we backsliding. While that may not be important on a short cruise, it is important to us on a longer cruise. Two, the excursions on this cruise were all very well curated and ran like a Swiss watch. The only criticism I have is that two of our excursions included an hour or two at a beach but Regent did not include the nominal cost of beach chairs. While $10.00 isn’t going to make or break someone whose paid for a Regent Cruise, it did come off as a bit cheap on Regent’s part. What also comes off as cheap on Regent’s part is their famous “Champagne and Caviar” brunch was from 6am to 10am on a day when most passengers had excursions starting at 8am. A proper brunch like that should be from 8am to 2pm and not on a day when everyone is on an excursion. I also want to describe the passengers. In every Regent Cruise we have taken, we have noticed that regardless of age, the passengers are adventurous and very active. The most active excursions fill up first! That is important to us because we don’t want to be the youngest passengers by decades but on Regent, the average age of the passengers really isn’t an issue as everyone is eager to see the world in the most active way possible. Finally, I want to say that Regent takes feedback very seriously. If you take the time to fill out the mid-cruise survey, you will be contacted by someone to follow up with any criticism, no matter how minor it may be. That shows me that Regent is always trying to improve and always takes passenger feedback seriously. The same cannot be said for other lines like Scenic.
This was not a perfect cruise. Here are some of the issues that we encountered: • One night at Compass Rose, both of our soup courses were lukewarm • The Seafood Sampler in Prime 7 lacked sweetness and tenderness • In Pacific Rim, the waiter tried to take our order before the wine steward offered us wine. That happened again one evening in Compass Rose • The veal chop in Sette Mari was prepared properly and was flavorful, but was too fatty for my preference • My wife ordered a tonic with lime before the show in the Constellation Theater, and it was delivered,…. (brace yourself), …..sans lime!!!! Let’s see…..that’s pretty much everything that I can think of that was not perfect. Everything else pretty much was. In the event that my lame attempt at irony is not coming through (likely), let me rephrase. Our cruise experience was, in every respect, as good as it was on any previous Regent cruise. Or a cruise on any other line for that matter. The glitches, or missteps were very few and very minor, and did not detract from our having a fabulous time. Some specifics: Cuisine - excellent in all venues. Compass Rose: The aforementioned lukewarm soup event happened on our first visit to Compass Rose. We mentioned this to the “Deputy Head Waiter”, (a position that I never knew existed), a delightful young lady named Misha. She immediately replaced our soups, and then every night thereafter, she greeted us by name and assured us that our courses would arrive hot. And they did; hot and delicious. I don’t think that we had one course during the entire cruise in CR that we did not enjoy. At Prime 7, this is the second consecutive cruise that my wife had the seafood sampler and was disappointed in it. So, I think we are finished with that one. I had surf and turf, filet mignon with lobster tail. I think that I have by now tried all of the cuts of beef at P7, and for me, the filet is the most tender cut. The lobster tail that accompanied it was sweet and tender, much better than the half lobster tail that came with the sampler. Go figure. For the first time ever, we had a second reservation at a specialty restaurant. Normally, one is enough for us since we love Compass Rose so much. But our butler, Bobby, was practically begging us to ask him to do something for us, we are pretty low maintenance and don’t really need all that much from the butler. But he booked us a table for 2 at P7 for the last night, and we didn’t have the heart to tell him no. My wife had the lamb chops, they came perfectly prepared. I had the whole lobster, it was excellent. Between the 2 visits, our appetizers were Ahi Tuna & Avocado Poke, Lump Crab Cake, Goat Cheese Piquillos & Portobello Tart, Diver Scallop, Onion Soup, and Clam Chowder. I don’t think that I would have the chowder again, too much potato, not enough clams. It was offered as a special in Compass Rose one night, and I thought that it was better there. Everything else was excellent. Don’t get me started on the Caramel Popcorn Sundae. Pacific Rim- crab summer roll, veggies pot stickers. duck and watermelon salad, soft shell crab tempura were starters, lobster tempura and Asian barbecue ribs were mains. No regrets about any of these choices. The coconut tapioca pudding for dessert was just ok. Chartreuse- For me, the Beef Tenderloin Rossini is the best cut of beef on the ship. My wife had the Seared Scallops, excellent. The mushroom soup is heavenly. The Crème Brûlée à la Vanille de Tahiti is sinful. We had all of our breakfasts at La Veranda, and lunches at La Veranda or Pool Grill. We find the variety of items offered and the quality to be more than adequate, we never have any trouble finding things that we love. Entertainment- When we cruise, we never miss the evening entertainment, whether it is the production shows or the specialty acts. There were no misses on this cruise, every show was very enjoyable. For the production shows, the Regent singers and dancers in this cast were all outstanding. The arrangements, choreography, sound, lighting and costumes (with frequent changes) never failed to impress. One of the things that make Regent productions unique is the use of LED backdrop scenery which makes for some spectacular effects, although I imagine that some may find it a bit over the top. All but one of the shows were backed by the Regent Signature Orchestra, which I find to be outstanding on every cruise that I have taken. The shows for this voyage were Pasión- One Night in Buenos Aires- Tango dancing set to both Spanish tunes and some modern tunes, extremely well performed Icons- Hit songs from various headliners. Frankly, I would have chosen some different icons to feature, but still, the singing and dancing made for an enjoyable show. Marauders Ball- A pirate themed show that is supposed to have a story associated with it. I am not a fan of the story-based shows. I find the attempts at a plot to be lame and dopey, and I can never make any sense of them. Nevertheless, the production elements make for an enjoyable experience. This, however, was the only production to have recorded instrumentation as opposed to the live Regent Signature Orchestra. Ignite the Night In this show, the wonderful singers take backstage to the dancers. It features some very creative choreography and was performed flawlessly. To me, it rivals any show that I have seen at sea. Broadway Unplugged This show is a different concept from the Broadway in Concert show that is featured on the other Regent ships; it showcases popular Broadway tunes reimagined in different musical styles. Very entertaining. The specialty acts were a very funny comic named Corey Kahaney, and a singer/ guitar player/pianist/impressionist named Travis Turpin. Both put on great shows. The Cruise Director, David Nevin, did a show and his amazing voice had the entire audience on its feet. Service- There has been some recent reporting saying that the service on Grandeur recently has been sub-par, and the staff seems to be in need of more training. There are 2 possibilities- a) I was just lucky in not encountering the untrained staff or b) The problem no longer exists I am going with b), since I was served in many different venues (all of them, I’m pretty sure), by many different crew members. While there had been an occasional misstep, they were few, far between, and relatively minor. The crew was uniformly friendly, personable, and very eager to please. For me, the service was as good as one can reasonably expect.
