Whether you’re chasing beach vibes in Mykonos or roaming ancient ruins in Athens, this ship offers endless ways to make memories onboard in between onshore adventures — like Broadway-style shows, palate-pleasing dining, and activities the whole family can get behind.
Jewel is a lovely ship. The staff was great. The ship needs to be dry docked to replace the carpets and mattresses and general maintenance but the ship is still beautiful. Small is much better for older people that can’t walk the bigger ships. The staff was great. We loved having a corner aft cabin. First time for us and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony. We don’t get off in Costa Miya because the pier is too long so we sat on the balcony to watch the people and we could see the port so we enjoyed that. There were lots of entertainment to keep us busy. There was all ages of people sailing. There was a lot of duck hunting going on and posting pictures of the ducks the kids found. The food was great. Lots of choices. We are in the dining room at night but had breakfast and lunch in the buffet. Lots of great choices to food. There was only one soda machine on board and it was in the buffet. We would book Jewel again.
The Jewel of the Seas is a 20 year old ship that is showing it's age. From a distance the ship sparkles and the crew does their best to maintain her but once onboard and moving around rust is evident, mirrors are losing their shine and a serious lack of electrical outlets in the cabins - which are sorely dated. The crew however, is phenomenal. To a person, always warm, friendly and courteous. Embarkation: Fast Speciality dining: is top tier as expected. All food hot and cooked the way we asked for Main dining room - Breakfast. Appears to be understaffed. The only way to get hot food is to special order it (e.g. ham and cheese omelet.). Hashbrowns, bacon and sausage never even warm and the pancakes were flat pale and hardened on the edges. Ordered Eggs Benedict on three separate days. Each time the egg yolks were hard as golf balls and never hot. Sent them back each time and to their credit the eggs came back as they should have been but they never could toast the English Muffins correctly- (more like hockey pucks). The Windjammer food is no better than a 2nd rate U.S. cafeteria restaurant. Cabin: Small but it is a smaller ship. The Cabin attendant was exceptional! Entertainment: This was an 11 day cruise. Daniel the Cruise Director was phenomenal! Two shows standout. An Elvis impersonator and Tengo Buenos Aires. If you have never seen the Tengo performed in person, here is the chance. The final production show called City of Dreams while technically flawless was underwhelming. We left it saying that the quality was not Mama Mia level but thank goodness it was phenomenally better than Cats or Strike the Pose! Crown and Anchor: If you are a Diamond, don't expect to be able to use the Crown room in the evening. It was restricted to Diamond Plus and Pinnacle club. Rule enforcement. The current policy is that scooters MUST be stored and recharged in the state room. On our deck alone, there were two cases of scooter infringement that were never dealt with.
Jewel is a "grand dame" of traditional cruising, with lots of glass, a soaring lobby and sea day activities centered around trivia, games and the pool. No whiz bang wow stuff like on the giant ships which suited us just fine. There was a plenty to do, never felt crowded anywhere, the food was great, the smaller size suited to the port intensive itinerary, and the crew - I just can't emphasise how wonderful they were, from Captian Tor on down. The venues and pool never felt crowded - loungers availble at any time of the day and we never had a problem with seating at the WIndjammer A nice touch was using the Vortex lounge as a "quiet space" during the day. On the flip side, the evening parties in the atrium - especially the Disco Inferno - were rocking It felt more like a "family" than any other cruise we've been on. Enjoyed our time on the Jewel and would happily sail her again
