SH Diana

Arriving in early 2023, SH Diana is the largest ship in our fleet, providing elegant and spacious 5-star accommodation for 192 guests in 96 spacious staterooms and suites, the vast majority with large balconies. Operated by an onboard team of 140, she provides the highest levels of personal service. She takes Swan Hellenic back to its roots when she launched, exploring the Mediterranean and its famous sites of antiquity.

Now sit back, relax, and take a moment to get to know this amazing new ship, purpose-designed for our unique cultural expedition cruises.

Named after the Ancient Roman goddess of light, the moon, hunting, and the wilderness, SH Diana is specially designed for worldwide cruising to explore the most inspiring and inaccessible places on Earth. Building on the outstanding amenities of her sister ships, she adds a dedicated Card Room next to the Observation Lounge, a Private Dining Room for special occasions, and two tenders that bring guests a comfortable alternative to Zodiacs for expedition landings. A Polar Class 6 ice-strengthened hull combines with extra-large stabilizers to make your journey as comfortable as possible.

Ship Reviews

If you are looking for more of an expedition feel and more opportunities for landings with a few nice amenities, I HIGHLY recommend the SH Diana in the Swan Hellenic cruise company. The weather dictated much of what happened on our cruise and we often ended up going to different bays than originally planned which is easier to do when you are on a smaller vessel. One day, we had to change plans and the Chilean research station in the area permitted us to visit them which was a rare thing to happen. Over the 4 days we were in Antarctica, we were able to get 4 landings and 4 Zodiac cruises. We were able to set foot on the Antarctic mainland one day! The ship is very modern. It has great stabilization features which made the Drake passage easier. The ship is able to stay in place using GPS technology instead of dropping an anchor onto the seafloor which is less intrusive to the environment. I enjoyed using the hot tub while viewing the snowy mountains! My son used the infinity pool. The saunas are great. Ingress/Egress on the Zodiac boats is a little tricky. If you have mobility issues, you may want to reconsider doing this cruise. The ship is small enough that we were allowed to do a bridge tour which was a first for me. That was very cool. We had a room suite which was great. Having the balcony allowed us easy access to viewing the Antarctic scenery. The stewards did a great job keeping our room clean and organized. It was easy to get from our room to any activity on the ship. The food and dining crew were excellent. Kudos to the pasta bar - it always had a long line because it was so good. The Parka that was provided to us was outstanding. It was far warmer than we expected. We didn't need to bring a down jacket. Overall, a fantastic adventure we will always remember!

Normally, the crew that look after your everyday kind of activities on board a cruise tend to have responsibilities such as lifeguard or DJ or whatever. On expedition cruise like this one, however, it's all about expertise in various areas to do with science and nature. All were expert boat handlers and could 'mata' a 'fuego' if called upon to do so. Moreover, they were people with degrees or higher diplomas in a host of different areas. The expedition leader Brandon Kleyn, for example, had a wealth of experience in organisation and outdoors stuff. Another guy from England called Toby had carried out some deep research on the peculiar history of the Falkland Islands. There were people who were experts in zoology and flora and God-knows what else. But of fun, there was plenty. Rest assured. The service was exceptionally good, I felt. The ship is a 5-star floating hotel in any case, with beautifully appointed rooms and suites, a big TV (handy for catching up on the day's briefing, schedule of events and the dinner menu, plus apparently you could also watch a load of films on it), a mini-bar that got re-stocked daily with beer, fizzy drinks and water and a fantastically comfy bed, plus a balcony. The staff are not only well trained but also clearly very content with their jobs. This shone through in the manner in which they engaged and their willingness to make sure you've got what you need. The first couple of days were the most beautiful - arriving into Antarctica for the first time was a magical experience, helped by the calm waters, sunshine and stunning snow-laden landscapes, the icebergs floating by and the penguins going through the water like jumping fish and, of course, the humpback whales. Going ashore was very well organised and executed. Briefings beforehand were clear and the whole system worked like a well-oiled machine, even when the guests were a bit well-oiled after lunch. All in all, one couldn't fault the experience. Once in a lifetime and made all the more special in this great ship.
