Ship Reviews

A fantastic cruise on a beautiful ship and with a crew totally committed to us having a wonderful experience. From joining the group in Buenos Aires onwards., pretty well every aspect of the experience was straightforward and genuine 5star. I could not recommend this cruise/ ship/ crew more highly The cabin, food and service were top notch The expedition team were knowledgeable, passionate and engaging The experiences were well thought out and led to great sightings and scenery The entire crew were friendly and service oriented. Because of the smaller ship, the ambiance was more that of a river cruise than of a large ocean cruise, The other great thing about the smaller ship was its access to places and the ease of doing excursions. I appreciated their commitment to preserving the pristine Antarctic environment. The technology on board this 2 year old boat is state of the art. We had a great time and are seriously considering an Arctic trip them next year.

We cruise twice a Year on Expedition Voyages. For us Swan Hellenic was the best experience in the Last 3 years. Excelente staff, good food, great Expedition Team, . A special praise to the Captain, the fleet Executive chef Julien, the hotel director Oliver, Gabi the housekeeper, Prisilla the chief purser, the estire kotchen Team, Eddie the chef, Hassan, Gerry, Michael the Sous chef. The cabin was outstanding, we love the chimney and the flames to keep us company at night. The recepción desk, always helpfull. The Shop, small but we found our treats. I love the mixture of all nationalities, from Russians, to Australians, a Belgian, a few chilenas, a few italiana, we love d the caviar events, the cooking competition all the lectures, very educative. I a few Words, we really manager to disconnect from the daily life and enjoyed the sights, the sea and the fresh Air.We will be back.

Dramatic scenery and wildlife. The Vega is a small modern ice capable ship with excellent facilities and cabins. The expedition team were very well qualified and personable. The Captain took us down below the Antarctic circle and was admired by crew and passengers alike. The passage from Ushuaia to the Antarctic peninsula was comfortable and helped by the modern stabilisers. We went ashore or explored in rubber boats every day once we had arrived. Excellent lectures on all aspects of life in the Antarctic. The topography of the islands and mainland is very high with dramatic mountains and glaciers, so there are great views all the time. Seeing a land that is virtually untouched by humans and where there are no trees or greenery is a profound change from anything I had seen before. The ship had an excellent professional photographer on board and she presented the passengers with their own copy of a great video and stills that captured all aspects of the great experience we had enjoyed.

What an incredible cruise on the SH Vega. We had a once in a lifetime experience cruising to Antartica. Our first impression of the Vega was that she looked more solid than the other ships on the dock at Ushuaia. She is a Polar Class 5 and smaller than most of the other meaning she can travel into smaller coves and fjords and break through more ice. Very solid crossing the Drake passage yet still luxury. There was only 120 passengers on our cruise. All Cabins have verandas or large windows, a lounge room and very spacious bathrooms. A great waterproof and warm jacket is given to everybody and boot to wear on the ice are also supplied. The difference we found with Swan Hellenic is how focused they are getting you off the boat onto the land and cruising in zodiacs or kayaks twice a day. Well organised and helpful staff get you loaded and landed to allow more time exploring this magnificent continent. We saw countless whales - Humpbacks, Sei, Minke and Small Finned Pilot whales. Many seals - Fur, Sea Lions, Crabeaters, Weddel and the magnificent Leopard!! We witnessed humpbacks feeding and a leopard hunting and catching a penguin. The stops and locations were amazing, scenery spectacular. Food was crazy good and plentiful and drinks, both alcoholic, non and hot were amazing - including hot chocolate on return from a cold expedition. Polar plunge was fun and safe, everyone should do this!! The staff - WOW - to say we were treated like family in an understatement. From our Captain, Captain Lyubomir who positioned us to capture the best views of wildlife and scenery; Brandon our ridiculously organised and safe expedition leader; photographer Linn who captured all of the moments for us on still and video forever; Richard the hotel manager who very precisely ran accomodation, food and beverage but also took the time to speak and sit with us during dinner and took us on escorted walks through the galleys, prep and storage areas and well as laundry and other back of house areas. Made us really appreciate how hard the crew works. I feel bad not to mention everyone but Emmanuel our room cleaner, Nino and Jeffrey in the dining areas, Gustav, Anya, Ilene and the rest of the expedition team were special to us. If you like a personal experience that focuses on getting you off the boat onto land and zodiacs without sacrificing luxury, this is your cruise!!

This ship is amazing. Rooms are spacious, modern and well laid out. The facilities on board are second to none. The laundry was clean and very usable. The food catered for everyone's tastes. The amazing staff in all areas are personal and it means a lot when they remember your name and greet you every time you enter the dining room. The expedition team were so very friendly and approachable. They made the journey even more awesome. The photographer did an amazing job and to get a full photo book, slide show and video at the end of the journey was unexpected, but very welcome. Every night there was something to do, the trivia was fun, the lectures were very informative, and the singing and dancing was good fun. The small number of people on the ship made it comfy, never overcrowded and no need to rush anywhere because there was always plenty of room. The free jacket, backpack and water bottle will be memories to keep forever. I would recommend this trip to everyone who wants to experience antarctica.
