San Juan To San Juan fabulous 14 day vacation. Crew and food were exceptional. Loved our cabin and the ship. Enjoyed the beautiful ports. There was a mechanical issue with one of the lifeboats. Enjoyed an extra day in Old San Juan. Each passenger was generously compensated for the delay. We missed st Maartin and down town crowded Charlotte Amale but the Captain made up for it stopping at a beautiful scenic natural harbor on St Thomas. They open the aft end of the boat and most of the ship went swimming. Great fun. Our cabin was wonderful with its walk in closet and spacious double sink bath . Your cabin steward did an exceptional job looking after us. As we were on for 14 days we received free laundry which is fantastic. I actually sent my clothes out every day. Loved Windstar booked 2 more cruises while on board. Received an extra 10%plus 5% off for booking onboard. Plus $200 shipboard credit. All in All A great value
We’ve just finished the Panama Canal to Aruba cruise. It was our first time on Windstar. We’ve sailed Viking Ocean the last few cruises. We had a spacious cabin which is almost midship. It was added during the stretching renovation. It was very nice, and a good size. The walk-in closets and dual bathroom sinks were very nice features. The shower worked extremely well and big enough to maneuver in. It has a Glassdoor, so no clinging curtains The bed was very comfortable and placed next to the doors leading to the French balcony. Everything worked extremely well. We both enjoy good quality food, and we believe we know what it is. We realize food is a subjective thing, but we were both very happy and pleased with the quality , especially dinner We ate in Amphora, the main dining room, four night. The menu changes nightly except for three staples, a steak, a chicken, and a fish.service was very good. We enjoyed every dish we had. The one weaker course was dessert. I did enjoy the cheese platter one night, and the sorbets and ice creams were better than average. I typically had a “starter”, a soup, entree, and dessert. No one we dined with complained or returned any item We asked the maitre D each night to either seat us with others, or have others join us. Most came into diner at 7 to about 7:30 We ate at Candles one night, on deck and we enjoyed it very much. We both had steak which was very good. Medium was the way we enjoyed it it. We’d call it medium/rare. It was very pleasant dining outdoors on deck Service was excellent and attentive. Another night we enjoyed the Spanish themed small restaurant. It is being replaced by an Asian themed venue. We started with three tapas dishes, and then each had lamb chops. Very good . The crème brûlée was very good, with a nice crispy top We mostly missed the BBQ on deck on the 6th night as we were ashore. We heard it was very good. We did have some dessert Breakfast and lunch were fine. Typical cruise buffet though one can order a la carte. One morning I had the waffles which were very good A smaller continental breakfast is available at the Yacht Club. At lunch, we did try the grill area twice and both enjoyed the burgers and the carved meat dish We picked this cruise because of the Canal transit. It was exciting and met my expectations. It was Sunday morning. Be prepared to be awakened by a 6:15 announcement that the Bridge of the Americas was about to be seen . We took the Chocolate tour one day. It was very worthwhile but be cautious. First the tender and then a 40 minute rude( each way) on a skiff that holds 6 or 8 people. It is extremely bouncy . Then a twenty minute bus to the indigenous peoples cacao farm and home. The tour is very interesting , followed by a simple basic lunch. It is worth the excursion, if you can take the bouncing and getting into and out of the small motor craft. Not much assistance was provided The beach day was well done. It’s a tiny island with lots of vendors. They are mostly in one area so can be avoided. Also, not pushy. The BBQ was fine and plenty of places to lounge and eat in the shade. They are mostly beach was nice and water warm and calm We did the city tour in Cartagena it started with a hot walk up to a fort which had good views. There was a stop for shopping, and also a short stop to see the emerald museum which of course offered more shopping. There was a visit to a church was worthwhile. I think we’d skip this another time because of the shopping stops That same evening we went back on the excursion to see the oldest section of the city. Wonderful trip. Very much recommend it. A highlight of the cruise. This is the excursion that brings you back to the ship as the BBQ is winding down,but there was still time to eat. We just wanted a bit of dessert as we ate lunch about 3 after the city tour The last excursion on Thursday morning was to the National Aviary. It was excellent. The nicest aviary we have seen. Again, it’s a bus ride each way of about an hour plus on not very good, crowded roads. We would recommend it though. Evening entertainment is limited to the “ house” musicians, some of whom are excellent. There were also a few game show trivia type games The crew talent show is a highlight. There are some extremely talented members Not to be missed I know everyone wants to know about embarkation and leaving the ship We stayed in Panama City the night before the cruise along with many fellow travelers at the hotel the Windstar uses. It was very good and the restaurant was good, though service a bit slow The food was excellent and different. We didn’t know to check in at the Windstar desk the night we arrived. It made getting to the ship a bit confused. There were three buses. Instead of the first bus I was told we’d be in, we were in the third, at 1:30 My advise is to do an independent tour in the morning and either arrange to end at the ship or back at the hotel to collect luggage and then taxi or uber to the ship Leaving the ship this morning was different than other cruises we’ve been on. Luggage was to be left in the has by 6:30 in the morning. As we had arranged a group transfer, we were off the ship at 8. A better way would be to do your own transport and disembark at 9. There were plenty of cabs at the pier. It’s only 5-10 minutes to the airport. We were in the check in line by 8:20. Problem is,there are no attendants until 9. The Aruba airport requires multiple security checks. Also, even though you check your luggage at , you retrieve it later and move it to another check point ,wgphere it is finally taken from you again We got yo our gate at 10:10, so 70 minutes from when the attendants first start. Another reason to do your own transfer and arrive at the airport at 9:30 In conclusion, we very much enjoyed Windstar, and this trip. We did miss not having a balcony and perhaps some additional entertainment options. If those two items are crucial to you, Windstar is not the right cruise line. Windstar will be introducing two new ships within the year that do have balconies
Fabulous Panama Canal cruise on this beautiful large yacht. All-suite ship with top knotch everything! The Panama Canal is a much larger operation than one might imagine. Quite an engineering feat, accomplished in cooperation with many countries working together. We loved the beautiful San Blas Islands, north of Panama in the Gulf of Mexico, near its border with Costa Rica. We had a snorkeling day, visiting several spots, and our 2nd day was on a private island as a beach day with an amazing bbq lunch, fabulous beach chairs & umbrellas, and entertainment by the lovely indigenous Kuna. Who knew Panama and Cartagena were such huge cities with massive skylines. Our Cartegena tour guide was fabulous, educating us about the island’s history (fought over by Spanish, French, British, and the Catholic Church, the latter of which directed the education system until relatively recently). And who knew Aruba is a desert full of cacti?! LOVED Windstar!
Our cruise on the Star Pride was excellent! We cannot say enough about the ship, staff, crew and service; it was all fantastic. Our cabin was lovely as was the ship; clean and spotless. The food was excellent we gained 15 pounds, great selections and the food was yummy. The service was top notch; the crew members and staff provided excellent service. Our experience was tremendous, extraordinary, awesome. The cruise was excellent although some stops had nothing to offer; nothing much there. We lost a day of sailing due to a bad fuel issue which the Captain and crew handled professionally making sure we were safe and comfortable while the crew continued to provide us with excellent care. The company gave us a refund for the missing stops without us having to ask for it. We highly recommend Wind Star cruise lines; we will sail with them again because it was excellent.
