Ship Reviews

Amawaterways was fantastic. We had a complete itinerary change, which wasn't great. The new itinerary was completely different, from castles and vineyards to flat Holland and windmills. Disappointing, but low river levels couldn't be helped. We've never river cruised before, and absolutely loved the cruise. the crew were all great. Although the captain was a bit stand offish and did not really talk to anyone. The food was out of this world, absolutely fantastic. We had a double balcony and it was awesome sitting out on it. Very comfortable. The chefs table was a great experience, seven course meal was really amazing. We had great weather and enjoyed sitting on the top deck. The tours were kind of put together in the last minute due to itineranry change, and it showed. They do have bikes on board we used to go out on our own. It wasn't the Fairytales but Holland and Belgium. We already booked another Ama cruise for next year.

There were many good things on this cruise. Overall food was excellent at both the dining room and the Chef's Table. Good selections on the menu, high quality ingredients and skillful cooking. Icecream was as good as always, could be more frozen and not starting to melt when served. Disappointed with the waffles, used to be very good but not so this time. Service was excellent in general. Always greeted by cheerful staff. When we gave them suggestions or comments they would followup on them. Some restaurant servers were a little disorganized. We were a group of 6 and some servers consistently confused who ordered what when serving the dishes. One server, Marisol was excellent though so we tried to go to her tables. Excursions were very organized and group size was not large. Every passengers were given a Whisper and earbuds to use for the whole cruise so there was no issue hearing the guides. The cabin is small but the cabin attendant kept the place clean and comfortable. Was pleasantly surprised that they offered free shuttles and luggage storage in a hotel at disembarkation in Nuremberg as the boat docked about half an hour away from central Nuremberg. The water level was very low that it affected our itinerary on the first half of the cruise. We didn't dock in Bamberg so we had to take a coach there therefore cut short of our time in Bamberg and felt rushed. We also didn't dock in Wurzburg and had to take a coach there. in order to sail passed the shallowest part of the Rhine as quickly as possible we even had a day that we didn't stop at a port which is unheard of in years past. We almost had to sail through the most scenic part of the Rhine after dark which would be a real shame but the captain was able to pick up some time and we sailed that beautiful stretch right before dinner. Those were tough decisions the captain had to make everyday and the cruise manager, Veronika had to explain to the guests and change the excursions with very short notice. I don't envy her challenging job which she handled very effiiciently and professionally. Once we reached the Moselles it was through sailing. Moselles is calm, quiet, relaxing and beautiful in a different way than the Rhine. This was my 3rd river cruise with Amawaterways and I'm impressed with them each time. I would have given this cruise a higher rating if it wan't for the low water level which afftected our itinerary but it was no fault on Amawaterways or the crew. On the contrary, the crew tried to give us the best possible cruise experience given the challenging situation. I really enjoyed river cruising but with the unpredictable water level becoming the new normal that can have tremendous impact on your itinerary, I'll think twice before going on a river cruise again in the summer.

We had our first river cruise on AMA and it was incredible-we signed up to do a second. The suite was perfect, with a balcony and sitting area, where we could relax when we did not want to be quite as social. The dinners were exceptional, and there was plenty of food if you want more. We do not drink much, so the dining plan at AMA was perfect for us and we did not feel as though we had to pay for alcohol that would not be consumed. We appreciated the multiple choices for excursions, especially the more active ones, like biking. As well, we loved the opportunities to have time to explore some cities on our own (using the AMA provided guided walking tours). Our days were full, and when boarding the boat in late afternoon, it felt like 'coming home', as we went to our room to get ready for dinner and the evening.

A wonderful cruise to celebrate our Mothers Birthday! The staff was so professional but very friendly & welcoming! All the staff, Cruise manager, servers, room attendants, bartenders, chefs, cooks and crew always had a smile on their faces!! The food was excellent & varied, there was very little that we did not like. The choice of tours was great and All the tours were very well organized with extremely informative guides and the pacing of the trip between sailings and ports was great! The rooms were ample with very comfortable beds. We had two cabins a french balcony and one with an actual balcony where you could sit outside---if you can afford it get that one but the french balcony one was more then adequate!! I would absolutely sail on AmaWaterways again without hesitation. We had a wheelchair for our Mom and that was no issue taking on and off the boat....but she could walk & do some stairs if someone can't that might be a problem in some ports as the dock levels varied depending on the tides.

This was my first river cruise and I can honestly say it was a dream compared to any other cruise I have been on. The staff was outstanding! They were professional but also fun. Their willingness to meet your needs, answer questions, and just be there for a quick chat or overview of the area we were visiting was so lovely. The amazing organization of people and tours as you were coming and going it made it easy and the instructions were clear. The tours were informative and enjoyable with free time to do and see the things you wanted to. The food was absolutely amazing !! It was above and beyond and made on ship from fresh ingredients! It was beyond impressive! There was not a bad or less desirable moment on this trip or with the crew or the locations that we visited. It was above and beyond on all accounts. Now as for a young family cruise I do not believe that this would be ideal for children as there are not children's programs , BUT for sure a great family trip for adults!
