AmaMagdalena

AmaMagdalena

Newly launched in 2025, AmaMagdalena is AmaWaterways’ first ship on Colombia’s Magdalena River, carrying just 60 guests in 30 staterooms. Every room features a twin balcony for taking in views. Colombian-inspired décor and modern comforts set the tone on board, while regionally rooted cuisine celebrates Latin American flavors alongside familiar Western favorites. Guests can relax at the pool on the Luna Deck, recharge in the fitness room or spa, and enjoy nightly music and cultural performances in the lounge. Shore excursions include visits to colonial towns such as Mompox, floating villages like Nueva Venecia, and wildlife-rich nature tours.

Ship Reviews

Ama Magdalena is a beautiful ship with an amazing crew that never says no. The executive chef Sebastian was outstanding . He shared his Grndmas cooking. Colombian food at its best. The Bolivar dinner on top deck was a tasting menu. We don’t eat seafood so substitutes were made. Never saw an executive chef that was so engaged . The rest of crew from Pursor, hotel manager, Maître de and servers were beyond fabulous! Best crew we have ever had on an Ama cruise and that says something because Ama has amazing g crews!! The cabins are located on 2 floors and every cabin comes with a balcony. We were on lower floor closer to water and had no problems with mosquitoes. The cabins were spacious and had double sink in standard cabin bathroom. Air conditioning worked well which was nice after being out i. the heat. The excursions were amazing. For the boat rides and bird watching you load on to the Amazon Magdalena power boats directly from ship. Definitely a bonus and very cool. Definitely recommend doing the pre-cruise in Medillin. Communa 13 is an extra tour but definitely recommend taking it. Highly recommend this cruise. Different and more relaxing than your typical European cruise.

The pre-cruise in Cartagena went really well. The Sofitel was awesome and the location couldn’t be any better. The AmaMagdalena was super comfortable and the crew was wonderful. The cabin was comfy and the food very good. The river itself was a surprise. Extremely clean, very quiet and lots of wildlife. There are only the two Ama ships currently cruising. Another thing we really liked on the ship was the fitness coordinator. Each day there were 4-5 sessions to choose from. Stacy did many of them from pilates/yoga stretches, salsa sessions to sunrise riverside walks. Excellent. The best part were the many and diverse excursions, getting out into villages that are unfamiliar with tourism. Sunrise on the river in small boats for birding, another boating excursion to link up with local fishermen to see traditional fishing methods. Riding tuk-tuks through the cities was so fun. We had sessions to make jewelry filigree and traditional handicrafts and many of the stops included a visit for ice cream, coffee or a cool drink. Ama really created a great experience. The other great thing was lots of like minded folks, who travel and have loads of fun experiences. We made some new friends! There is a very high energy vibe in Columbia. Very friendly people.

This is a wonderful cruise to a part of the world that has not seen cruises in decades and which Ama Waterways has done a masterful job in acquainting a new group of visitors to a pristine area unspoiled by vast numbers of tourists and which will hopefully remain that way. The ship and it's all locally recruited staff could not have been more guest oriented and eager to make all of our fellow cruisers Ama devotees. They were eager to make their country's current, as opposed to past reputation more widely known. The towns picked for excursions, of which there were many, were a new and pleasurable experience I believe for all the guests on board. I would enthusiastically recommend this trip for anyone who is looking for something wonderful and new. The food was carefully selected to show off local products and preparations and the complimentary beverages with meals, cocktail hour and special performances are also a welcome treat

This cruise was exceptionally wonderful. My initial interest was the smaller ship and in the western world. We experienced friendship with everyone on board. All of the excursions were great and well planned. I was amazed at the amount of work Ama waterways had put into getting this program together in Columbia. Building their own docs, having special tour boats build just for the guest. The work they put in with the Columbian government to make this cruise available. I would hope other cruise lines that try to ride on the coat tails of Ama's work are held to the highest of standards. Too much tourism travel in Columbia's fragile historical areas could ruin it for everyone, especially the local small villages. We met fellow passengers from all over and shared travel and cruise experiences. Meeting the local villages and indigenous tribes were fantastic. If you have traveled with Ama before it is a must, that you add this trip to your memories.
