Ship Reviews

We journeyed on Azamara Pursuit, guest capacity 702, to Alaska in August. We are upgrade all-inclusive to Mexico travelers but circumstances made this our choice. We will try another for sure! The balcony stateroom was small, with adequate storage and room under the bed for suitcases. The bed was 66 inches across. Yes, the bathroom is small. Expected. Hair dryer is provided, culing iron permitted. We were opposite the free laundry room which had noisy moments despite the sign to be mindful. Staff and food were as good or better than all-inclusives. We ate at the Discoveries Restaurant for dinners and the Windows buffet for breakfast and lunch. We could order a really good beef or salmon burger at The Patio and they brought it to the Windows table. Coffee better if requesting Americano etc. Drinks were exactly as ordered. We met with our party of 6 in The Living Room on deck 10, or on loungers on the pool deck 9. Even in slightly cooler weather full length windows kept out wind. It gets wonderfully hot. Thanks are especially given to our room steward Mario. Wait staff were all kind and efficient. Rex in the Living room, Gina, Cassiano, and others, plus Jason on the pool deck with a bag of ice, stand out. Captain Mikael was cheerful and present. Bel in guest relations was delightfully helpful. Joe, our Vancouver Cruise Connections Specialist was on the mark. We did have fog with foghorns overnight for at least 3 nights and one day while trying to hear the excellent house band Lujoe and the Gifted (who took requests if it was in their repertoire). The open water days were not rough, but we were lucky. The pool did slosh a bit. We didn't do any specialty or ultimate packages nor any excursions except tha Azarmazing Evening Ashore in Ketchican, which was well done, except we walked back to the ship in darkness on a crushed gravel path. It fully rained that day, but all other days were better. We didn’t attend any shows, and just listened to trivia. No duty-free alcohol. Ports (?) provided a free schoolbus shuttle to downtowns. We didn't get off the bus at Klawock-Craig. Sitka was pretty and had a visitor centre, etc. Icy Strait Point has a free 5-minute gondola ride to a picturesque visitor area and the town. Ketchican had a walkable main port area with many, many gift and jewelery stores. The best store for us in K was Ward Cove Docking Group right off the ship, next to the Logging Show. Wifi accessed easily ashore. Victora had PNW buses, dropping us by the Fairmont Empress. Embarkation took 2 hours, then muster drill. Debarkation was quick and organized. My hometown Vancouver's downtown is not easy. Even the airport is easier. Still happy and looking forward to another!

This was our 8th cruise with Azamara, we had always wanted to visit Alaska and was happy that Azamara had returned to the region. Pursuit was in good condition and all areas looked well maintained. Our cabin was kept to a high standard by our attentive but unobtrusive cabin attendant, Anthony. The entertainment on board was of an extremely high standard. Most port of calls were interesting except Kowlock which we found to be below par. The one area that really was poor was Windows Cafe. A definite decline in standards. The food, particularly the main meal selections were unappealing, watery, cheap ingredients and lacked flavour. It was disappointing as often after a day of excursions you just want an easy meal in a relaxed setting. Discovery's food was of a good standard. Mosaic Cafe as always provided great coffee and service. We do feel that Azamara needs to address food standards in Windows Cafe.
