Ship Reviews

My wife in I are in our mid-late 60s and have cruised 30+ times but this was our first Celebrity cruise. I had very high expectations going in based on what I have heard over the years about Celebrity and to be honest I didn't feel like expectations were met but I certainly didn't think it was a bad cruise, by any means. I am going to score it high but I guess I just expected a little more luxury. EMBARKATION/DEBARKATION We had a 1:30 arrival time, per Celebrity, but we were told by Celebrity that we could actually board whenever we wanted so we got to the terminal at 11 am and after dropping off our luggage we were inside and on the ship in less than 15 minutes. On disembarkation day we waited in the San Marcos dining room for our number to be called. Once called we were literally grabbing our luggage in about 10 minutes and then we went through to customs. Super easy at both ends of the cruise! CABIN (Ocean View) I was greatly disappointed in our cabin. This is the only poor part of our cruise. Some of the wallpaper was peeling by the ceiling. We found makeup on the hand soap bottles, when we arrived, and we just felt like we needed to sanitize everything, so we did. The couch was old and worn and not very comfortable but our biggest problem was the bed. I think one of the beds was about 1" shorter than the other one so when they pushed them together for us they didn't line up making it very uncomfortable. We had the cabin steward try to fix them on three different days but he was unable to. When I tried to sleep in the center I was on a big lump and I felt as if I was going to roll over to the edge of the bed. My wife has a bad back and this was not a good experience for either of us, but not for her especially. I'm not sure if the cabin steward really understood our issue but he tried. He was a nice guy and took good care of our cabin otherwise. The cabin is smaller than what I'm used to but the storage was plentiful using all the drawers and closets. For some reason this cabin only had two outlets in the entire cabin. They were side by side by the window so you couldn't use a hair dryer or other appliance in the bathroom. Also, the headboard for the bed was just a stainless steel pipe that looked like a railing. I have no idea what the decor people were thinking when they approved that "headboard" but it would probably fit better on a Virgin cruise line ship with a pair of handcuffs on it. LOL BUFFET The embarkation day buffet was mediocre at best. I expected a great first impression but it was very disappointing. The variety wasn't great and some of the items just didn't taste as good as I had hoped. This was the ONLY time I was disappointed at the buffet. We ate all our breakfasts and lunches there and I was very happy each time although I will say their Asian/Indonensian/Indian cuisine was consistently lacking in flavor. We were on the Majestic Princess, in November, and that particular cuisine was top notch. There were never any lines for any areas at the buffet. The did a great job spreading things out. Breakfast had 3-4 eggs to order stations, which was helpful for traffic flow. This was the only ship I have ever been able to get French Toast on the buffet and have it hot and moist every time! They did a great job of putting out smaller portions and replenishing often on all the items on the buffet. We found the best place at the buffet was at the aft end. They had pretty much everything there except for perhaps the caved meat but the lines were quick there and we liked to sit outside that area on the aft part of the deck overlooking the wake and the ocean. It's the best place to dine on the entire ship, in my opinion. For lunch there were 1-2 different carving stations as well as a whole host of freshly prepared food spread out over the buffet. Something unique was at lunch and dinner they always had chicken breasts, fish, steak and pork at the aft buffet and they would cook them to order. I thought that was a nice touch. We never once had to wait or seriously search for a table and the servers were always coming around clearing plates, refilling coffee or taking drink orders. Very efficient and friendly staff. MAIN DINING ROOM We initially had a table for first seating but we thought it was the wrong mix of people for us (very nice though) so we were able to change to Select Dining and each night we went to dinner we got there around 7 pm and asked to share a table. This got us seated sooner and we got to meet different people each night. They always put us in the same area so we had Johnson and Ari as our servers and they were fantastic! The food in the San Marcos dining room was terrific. Being a Chef, I always look forward to eating in the dining room and they did not disappoint. Each night I had two entrees and all but one (jambalaya) were excellent. There was lobster one night and prime rib one night and the menus were mixed really well during the cruise with a great variety of cuisines and proteins to make it really enjoyable. By the way if you like chocolate cake DO NOT MISS the chocolate cake in the dining room. It was a thick, fudgy (not chocolate mousse) cake with a nice dark chocolate ganache icing. Yes, I had it every night and I'm not sorry I did. Service, as I mentioned, was excellent. I also wanted to shout out Karyna, who is the hostess - she was so patient with all the people asking her for certain tables or servers and somehow she was able to get everyone seated with a smile on her face. ACTIVITIES There were plenty of activities for everyone so you could always find something to do. Cruise Director Kelly was so much fun as the line dance instructor. She went slow enough so we could all follow along and made it enjoyable. I thought all the performers were really good. The headliners, especially were very talented. The cruise staff and bar servers were all very friendly and approachable. We did not travel with children and I don't think I saw more than a half dozen young kids (younger than 15) on the entire ship. There are no slides or water parks and I don't believe I saw any kids or teen areas. We did not visit the gym or the spa so I can't be of any help there. The casino staff were very friendly. Kate, the casino "hostess" was always available to answer questions about things like rewards, etc. They had a black jack tournament on the first sea day and scheduled another one on day 6 but cancelled that one due to not enough players. They also had a Texas Hold'em tournament. Oh and one huge plus - there was no smoking allowed in the casino. It was SO nice to be able to play or even just walk though and not have to deal with second hand smoke. OVERALL We were both very happy with the cruise. It was definitely an older crowd, no rowdies binge drinking or getting crazy. Everyone was well behaved. I would say the average age was probably late forties. This is certainly not a cruise ship for kids unless they just like to hang with mom and dad all day. The ship itself was very clean and also very spacious. I never once felt crowded. The public areas are fairly wide open and there's plenty of room to walk. There are also many places to sit. The ship was pretty full but you couldn't tell. It was definitely an older ship an although they had a renovation less than a year ago, it could still use some more refreshing but it wasn't falling apart or in disrepair at all. It just felt older. Would we go back on this ship? Maybe. We would really like to try one of the newer ships to see how it compares and see if we can find that luxury I thought was lacking but the Constellation was certainly a nice vessel and got the job done. Thanks to the officers and crew who did such a great job!

This was our first time on Celebrity and we had very high expectations going in. Overall they did not disappoint. My wife and I are in our late 60s and have cruised many times before. We only purchased the wifi package (mine was the basic and my wife's was the one level upgraded from there). Overall I felt the basic was fine for emails, texts and calls. I could sometimes stream but not always but I really didn't "need" to stream as I was trying to unplug while on vacation. CABIN We were in an ocean view - Deck 2 - Cabin. Let's get the cons our of the way first ... It was small but storage was plentiful. There were only two outlets in the entire cabin! Our couch was worn and a bit dirty, due to age, and our bed was pretty much a disaster. Our cabin steward tried to fix it three times but was unsuccessful. It seemed like one of the beds was a bit lower than the other so when they put them together they never quite lined up so one of us either slept on a hump or felt like we were rolling off the edge. My wife has a bad sciatica so neither of us slept well at all. Also, for some reason, there was a metal bar at the head of the bed. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be decorative or functional but it just seemed out of place. I guess it would be helpful for those who bring handcuffs but that's not our style. LOL. FOOD As a chef, food is always important to me. I felt the food, overall was excellent. The buffet was probably an 8 out of 10. I felt the embarkation buffet was just ok but was definitely better the rest of the week. They also had theme nights and the Greek night was surprisingly good. I was most disappointed with the Asian/Indonesian food. Our cruise on the Majestic Princess had some fabulous Asian/Indonesian food on the buffet. The rest of the food, however was great. There was always a carved ham at breakfast and at least one carved meat at lunch or dinner. The lines were never long, even at the eggs to order section, of which there were 3! The breakfast pastries were great, especially the chocolate croissants and almond croissants. Be sure to go to the aft section of the buffet for even smaller lines and they also have eggs to order there at breakfast. At dinner though, they will grill you a piece of fish, steak, pork or chicken breast to go along with the available sides. By the way, this is the first time I have ever had hot French toast on a cruise buffet. I usually try it at least once and it's always cold and tough. The Constellation had great French toast and it always tasted like they just made it. Once you fill up your plate be sure to head aft to the outdoor seating area. It's got great views and you can sit in the sun or shade and there are always plenty of servers coming around to clear your plates, bring more coffee or get you a drink from the bar. We ate in the main dining room and used select dining - no reservation so we had to go to deck four and put our name in and they give us a buzzer. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes and we were usually there at 7 pm. If you have a reservation (via select dining, not first or second seating) you will go to the line on the right. First and Second seating diners go to deck 5. By the way we always told the hostess we were willing to share a table and that's why we were seated so quickly. We usually got seated with only one couple and we got to make new friends each night. The food in the main dining room was great! The only item I didn't like was the Jambalaya. It was dry and didn't have a lot of flavor but I usually order two entrees so I didn't go hungry! My entrees for the week were Lamb Sirloin chops, Shrimp Scampi, Steak Diane, Prime Rib, Spaghetti Bolognese and a few fish items that I can't recall. Other than the Jambalaya were excellent. If you like chocolate cake, be sure to order that for dessert, it's fabulous. It's not that light, chocolate mousse type cake you get on cruises. It's a real chocolate cake that was thicker like a fudge and a great chocolate ganache icing. SERVICE Johnson and Ari seemed to be the servers who took care of us the most and they were great. They knew the menu very well and were friendly and efficient. Karyna was the hostess and watching her put up with all the crazy passengers who thought they were the only ones who mattered was like watching a pro. She was efficient and graceful and got everyone seated with a smile her face. Throughout the ship bar servers and buffet servers were very efficient and we never had any empty glass or plate that wasn't taken care of. The service team was so efficient and unobtrusive. ENTERTAINMENT Kelly Rose - the cruise director was great. She exuded joy and positive vibes. She was also the line dance instructor and she was so good at getting us all to follow along without rushing us. She made it very enjoyable. Every one of the performers we listened to were great. Crystal Stark was one of the headliners and we loved her performances. They also had performers who did Billy Joel and Elton John themed performances and they were also great. There's a lot of activities on board and we felt there was something for everyone. EMBARKATION/DISEMBARKATION From the time we stepped foot in the building until the time we got on the ship it was 12-15 minutes. From the time we heard our number called while waiting in the dining room until the time we picked up our luggage it was 10-12 minutes. Their process was so easy and organized. Overall, we had a great time but most likely we would probably try a newer ship next time. The Constellation was smaller and more cozy with lots of space and we never felt crowded. the Staff are great and other than our cabin issues we really can't say anything bad about the ship but we would just like to try a newer/larger vessel. Bon Voyage

Returning the favour after using cruise critic to research our cruise. Favorites - Le Petit Chef. We had a wonderful dinner and the tech experience was unique and enjoyed be all. -Main Dining Room. Although the food was somewhere between good and very good ( never excellent) the ambiance and service was excellent. - Martini bar. Hang out and watch the show. Great bartenders and excellent spot for a drink. - Reflections lounge. Beautiful ambiance and Great views. Perfect place for a sunset cocktail. - Pizza station at the buffet. Gluten free pizza was very good and everyone enjoyed the regular pizza. Definitely recommend. - Rooms- Our interior cabin was fine. It could be a bit more modern but plenty of storage and room for 2 to move about. - Medical staff. Didn't need it myself but 1 of our party of 6 was sick and in bed for most of the 5 night cruise. She received excellent and complimentary care. 1000's of dollars worth. Not so favorite. -Buffet. Food was well displayed and better than NCL but still not great. Very hit or miss. -Demographic. Definitely an older vibe. I'm 64 and I felt young. - Entertainment. Totally Meh. Only found 1 act that we really enjoyed. - Tuscan grill . GROSS. Wouldn't go again if it were free. Just really bad.

This was our 25th cruise and the 6th Celebrity cruise. We've always enjoyed Celebrity and this cruise didn't disappoint. They are cutting the corners and charging for some things now but all cruise lines are doing it. The food in the MDR was pretty good. But the food in the buffet was just okay. We thought breakfast was by far the best meal up in the buffet. The entertainment on the ship was very good. But it was the entire activities staff that really was the star of the show on this ship. They really made the ship a lot of fun. The food has slipped a little bit and the ship has gotten older but the staff really did a great job making sure everyone had a great time. The oceanview cabin was nothing special and the common areas were dated but nice. Overall, we would go on the Constellation again.

We found the staff on Celebrity Constalation to be friendly. The food in the main dining room was good. However, I find it agrivating that the Elite "happy hour", when Elite level guests can get complimentary alcoholic drinks at most bars on the ship, is not honored in the main dining room. So to get a complimentary glass of wine one has to walk out of the restaurant to a nearby bar, get the wine and return to the table. We were told that Celebrity has some sort of accounting system that does not allow the somlier to serve guests their complimentary drinks - Celebrity should review this silly policy and put the convenience of their Elite guests first, ahead of their internal accounting policy. Apart from that annoyance, Celebrity do an overall good job of catering to their guests. The cabins on this ship are on the small size when compared to their newer shios.
