Background on us….This was our 42nd cruise. We have cruised on Princess, Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Mostly with Princess. We did this cruise because of the itinerary and the round trip from Boston. The Good: Room was very nice. Deluxe Veranda. Room steward introduced himself right away. Bathroom was very nice. Love the shower door instead of a curtain and the shower pressure. Pillows were excellent. The Sunset Bar on deck 15 was our “go to” bar. We sat there a couple of hours almost everyday. It can get very busy. Scope out your chair early. The rockers are the best. Ship was extremely clean. Furniture looks great, carpeting too. Bathrooms are quite large in the common areas. There are many places on the ship to sit and people watch. Love the library area. Many elevators and they are quick. Deck 5 was my walking deck. I walk an hour early in the morning. Thank you to members of cruise critic for helping me find the best floor for my daily walk and where to go for coffee. Shout out to the Coffee Crew…..they are excellent. The Martini Bar demonstration at night is entertaining. It is also nice to see the Ship Officers down there every evening if you have a question or comment for them. They are visible. I love the employee at the entrance of the buffet giving a squirt of sanitizing liquid to all passengers. I did hear one passenger tell the employee that they had just taken a shower and didn’t need any liquid. We had Anytime Dining, which worked well for us. We arrived between 5:15-5:30 and always got a nice table. Prime Rib was delicious. Waitstaff in the dining room are top notch. Very personable, knowledgeable and remember everything. We went to 3 shows……Boogie Wonderland, Boyband Evolution and On Broadway. All were EXCELLENT! We did walk off at the end of the cruise. Extremely easy. We had a private car scheduled to meet us and we were picked up by 7:45 a.m. The Not So Great: Boarding in Boston was just awful. Our driver dropped us off right at the door and then we went through the LONG SLOW line. We finally got scanned, checked in and then told to sit for 45 min. until our group was called to get on the ship. We were assigned 1:00 p.m. to check in and didn’t get on until almost 4. Not a good way to start. At the buffet, I witnessed a women put her entire hand into the garlic knot bowl by the pasta station. I’m not kidding. She just grabbed a handful of knots. I was grossed out and it takes a lot for me. I did tell an employee that the bowl needed to be thrown out. For the most part, people were very good at the buffet. The last sea day, the buffet was an absolute zoo for lunch. It stayed like that the entire lunch time. No place to sit. Many people were just sitting and talking or playing a game. We ended up leaving and bringing pizza back to our room. TV channels/movies are not great. We like to watch a comedy before shutting the lights off at night. This was a big negative for us. We went to the dining room one evening because Short Ribs were listed on the menu in the app. Our waiter said that the app is not always correct and that the best thing to do is come to the dining room for the daily menu. We planned to put $100 deposit down for a future cruise but didn’t because it was a non-refundable deposit. Difficult to find a place to sit with a cocktail before dinner. We found 2 seats at the Craft Bar. There were light bites FOR SALE there. No free muchies. We wanted a small snack in the afternoon. The buffet closes at 2:30 p.m. and only offers pizza, pasta, desserts and salad. I wish they had cheese and crackers. I did find some nachos one day. We went to trivia one day and it seemed boring to us. Normally, we love trivia. Excursions: Tender in Rockland Maine. It went fairly quick. Owl’s Head Transportation Museum and Lighthouse excursion was very nice. Lots of uneven ground to walk on though. We walked the boardwalk in Halifax. It was a beautiful day. We had been there before and didn’t want to take an official tour. We did go to the Maritime Museum which had been recommended to us. It was excellent. Sydney excursion was to Bell Museum and Scenic Baddeck. Very informative. Excellent tour guide. Excursion in St. John’s was outstanding. It was the trolley tour. Beautiful weather. Guide was outstanding. Walking tour in Quebec City was excellent. The Grand Prix Cyclists race was happening and we became a part of it. Guide was very good. It was hard to hear her because of the crowds for the race and the helicopters overhead but she did her best. Walking was difficult for some. Lots of stairs, uneven stones and cobblestones. Double decker bus in Charlottetown turned out good. Not sure why we got on the bus to get off in 5 min. The walking part was tough for some people. Sidewalks were uneven. Market was closed by the end of the tour, so most people just stayed on and went back to the ship. We did a private tour in Portland……the Casco Bay mail run to the islands. The boat is a short walk from the ship……I think it was 9 min. It’s first come first serve. Dress warm and enjoy. There were 6 island stops to deliver amazon pkgs, mail, groceries, etc. You can bring a lunch if you want. We went on the noon ferry and got back around 3:00 p.m. Misc Info: There was really only 1 day that we felt the ship rocking. The rest of the time was pretty calm. Never took Dramamine. Very few kids on board. Seems like it would be boring for the kids on board. Cold temps during the night and early morning. Glad we brought long pants and a jacket. Most days it warmed up in the afternoon and shorts were needed. Didn’t use the balcony as much as I thought we would. Really cold when the ship was moving. People did not get overly dressed for Chic Night. There were some fancy clothes but not everyone dressed up. We purchased the Premium Drinks with Wi-Fi before the cruise. Not sure if we could have saved any money by pay as you go but it was very convenient for us. No chair hogs on this cruise. It was too cold to be around the pool. It was a great cruise and we would cruise Celebrity again. We also loved the itinerary and would do it again. We are people who like the older cruise ships. The Silhouette was perfect for us. I'm including some outside pictures of the ship. I had a difficult time finding pictures of this ship and our room when I was trying to pick a room.
It was good, but not great. Food could have been fresher. Berries were all frozen, so they were mushy on my yogurt. Not a very good variety for the dinning room meals. We didn’t want to pay l extra for the specialty restaurants this time. Most of the shows in the theater were entertaining. Not enough speakers for during the day we were at sea, or for those who chose not to go ashore. Mostly elderly people. There was a very nice play area for toddlers and a baby sitting area that appeared never to be used. I didn’t ever see any children on the ship, except one baby. Only one teenager who was always on his phone. Poor kid. Our room attendant was very shy. Normally they enjoy visiting with us to get to know them, but not this time. He did do a good job. Our main dining room waiter was incredible. His name is Sandhi. The shore excursions were typical. Four and five hours is way too long. Those are where you drive an hour to see a lighthouse. Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia was one of our favorite stops as was Cheers in Boston. That was fun. Very busy place. A city tour for 1 1/2 or two hours would be better, unless you do want to take a long bus ride. On one of our stops we ditched our walking tour. So boring. It started across the street from the ship and after the third house that belonged to George Anderson (?) in the early 1900’s, we walked back to the ship and hired a taxi driver to take us around to the highlights of the city. It lasted 1 1/2 hours and he only charged $80.00, plus we did tip him. He stopped for us to take pictures. The other excursions were all in a huge bus and your view on the opposite side you sit was blocked by the people and we were too close to the other places that were pointed out, to take a good picture, so a lot of them didn’t turn out. The ship didn’t have that wow factor like the Princess and Royal Caribbean. We’ll try a different ship next time.
Cruised many times but first time on Celebrity. Booked for the itinerary. We usually book with NCl where have Platinum status but wanted this itinerary and decided to try a new company. Travelling with sister and brother-in-law. Have to say we all had a fantastic time and agreed that the cruise, staff and facilities very good. Embarkation was a bit fraught possibly due to the refurbishment limitations at Boston Port. Also it is handled by an external company and staff seemed unsure of process. Our time slot was 3.30pm - arrived a little earlier at 3.10pm but on board by 4.15pm and cabin available. Cabin was spacious and much bigger than interior cabins on NCL. Decor of the ship had a more modern vibe rather than the garish colours on some other ships. Food was very good quality in both buffet and main dining room. Lots of variety. Liked that in the buffet divided into various food stations rather than one long counter which helped with queues. Though what I find horrific and see it on ALL cruises is the people who eat off their plates in the buffet queues rather than wait until seated. I assumed that with the older demographic ages on this cruise people would have better manners but sadly mistaken. In the main dining room we had anytime dining and never had to wait more than 30mins for a table. Service was good. Food was hot, especially soup, didn’t feel hurried. Most of the evening shows very good with a variety of acts during the cruise. Other musical entertainment good. Variety of speakers offering talks during the sea days. Unusually the cruise director Ernest did not run the entertainment as a tacky holiday camp more operated behind the scenes which we preferred. As with all cruise lines the excursions are expensive so would recommend do your own research for external providers. Some of the ports had limited areas of interest but all provided great scenery. Found the drinks and WiFi packages to be expensive compared to NCL but waited to the last minute before purchasing when offer of 45% discount. Still more expensive than NCL but as it included bottled water, speciality coffee and soft drinks we broke even compared to pay as you go. Did not experience speciality dining as think an extra $60 pp plus 20% gratuity after already paid for food is expensive unless a very special occasion. Very disappointed with immigration situation at Portland our first US port on return leg. I realise this is beyond the control of the cruise line but suggest they adjust the time in port to accomodate it. ALL passsngers had to have a port side face-to-face with US Immigration. You are allocated a time slot and have to wait for your group to be called. Gangplank was down at 9.30am but our slot was group 23 at 11.10am. We didn’t make it through immigration until 12.10. As gangplank up at 7.30pm this 4hr delay for us impacted on our visit to Portland. I would say some areas of ship need some TLC - equipment in gym, ships hull - but as with any ship rolling programme of maintenance. If you have young family I would say this is not a suitable itinerary as limited child/young person entertainment. Plus ports unlikely to be suitable. Debarkation as usual a bit fraught. Have to be out of your cabin by 7.30am but our debarkation slot not until 9.35am - decided not to put luggage out and do self debarkation. Again portside is handled by an external company and staff do not explain that Uber or Lyft cannot do portside pick-up but have to get a shuttle to a car park where these cars have to wait. Trying to get onto shuttle buses very challenging. What struck us all was through the entire cruise all the staff very helpful and seemed genuinely happy. Not the last few days put on happy where the thought of tips is in their mind.
The ship is in great shape, not "dated" or "worn" as some list. The staff is amazing, everyone will smile and greet you. Buffet was best we have had at sea, dining room very good to excellent food. No problem with dining your way, we were sat within 10 minutes most nights. Emily and Bel were great at already expecting us at 6:15! Entertainment was very good- the dancers and singers gave us a good show, and the brought in artists had a nice variety. The only criticism- on sea days please offer more to do, especially between 12-4. We cannot go outside, weather was 50 degrees, so the cruise director needs to step it up on these days. Most offerings were a charge, and a large charge! Other scheduled games lasted 20 minutes and were done. It was our 3rd time on this ship and it was a nice trip.

Kids and Teen Programs - The fun starts at Camp At Sea, our onboard entertainment centre and program designed exclusively for kids ages 3 to 12. Open every day from 9:00am - 10:00pm, Camp at Sea offers kids the opportunity to participate in a number of entertaining activities, including treasure hunts, arts and crafts, sports, and theme parties, all under the supervision of our experienced youth staff. For our teen cruisers, the Teen Club is the place to be. At the Teen Club, they can make new friends and participate in events like video game competitions, teen parties, and culinary classes. Activities are overseen by our team of teen counsellors and offered throughout the day, allowing teens to come and go as they please.
