Ship Reviews

Queen Elizabeth Caribbean Cruise Review (12 Nights) My personal experience | Bracco Cruise & Travel, Hi, I’m Lisa—and I just sailed on the Queen Elizabeth for a 12-night Caribbean voyage… and this one felt different in the best way. This isn’t a loud, high-energy cruise. It’s slower, more intentional, and honestly… a little magical if you appreciate the details. My Cabin: Room (Midship Balcony) I loved this location. Midship made everything easy to get to, and the motion was minimal. The balcony was my favorite part—fresh air, quiet mornings, and just watching the ocean roll by. Inside, the room was thoughtfully designed: Luggage fits right under the bed (huge win), 2 hidden drawers at the foot of the bed. Great closet space (bring packing cubes!) The bed? So comfortable. One of those “sleep better than at home” situations. The bathroom is your typical cruise-style compact space with a shower curtain, but it’s clean, well-kept, and very functional. Good storage under the sink and along the sides, Plenty of space for your daily essentials and Everything stayed organized and easy to use. What really made the cabin experience stand out, though, was the service. Our steward, Berlin, was absolutely amazing. She attended to the room at least twice a day, and every time we came back, it looked refreshed and perfect. Little touches—like chocolates on the bed each evening—made it feel extra special. Let’s Talk Food: One of my favorite little luxuries… Breakfast in bed is FREE (part of room service all day). And here’s the secret: you can write in what you want—even if it’s not listed. I asked for oatmeal with raisins, picked my exact delivery time (not the 30-min windows) … and it showed up perfectly every time. That kind of attention to detail? You feel it. Main Dining Room: consistently delicious—we were never disappointed Buffet: surprisingly good with gluten-free, vegetarian, and even British favorites Afternoon Tea (3 PM in the Queens Room): This is a MUST. Finger sandwiches, scones, sweets… all served with white-glove service. It feels like stepping into another era. Evenings Onboard: Entertainment That Really Stood Out. One of the most memorable parts of this sailing was Come From Away. It tells the story of 6,579 stranded passengers diverted to a small town in Newfoundland, Canada, in the wake of September 11 attacks. The show runs about 1 hour and 45 minutes with no intermission, and it was simply amazing—performed in the Royal Court Theatre. Truly one of the best shows I’ve seen at sea. Beyond the theater, there was so much to enjoy: Gala evenings where everyone dresses up and gathers in the Queens Room: Live music, dancing, and such a fun, elegant atmosphere Dance classes (ballroom, line dancing, salsa), Trivia games and social activities, Solo traveler meet-ups and Enrichment lectures: We especially loved the lectures by Dr. Chris Drake, who gave multiple insightful talks on Caribbean destinations—adding so much more meaning to the ports we visited. Spa Time (Worth Every Minute) :I did the spa package ($169): 50-min massage, Mini facial, scalp massage, Foot/ankle scrub and Eye treatment. Also tried the 2-hour thermal suite pass ($50)—beautiful space… honestly just wish I had more time. Who This Cruise Is For: The crowd definitely trends older, with a lot of British and Canadian guests—which we actually really enjoyed. There is a kids club onboard, but this isn’t a kid-focused cruise. It’s more: Couples, Professionals, Travelers who want a refined, relaxed experience The Overall Feel: This cruise is about slowing down. Morning coffee on your balcony. Afternoon tea. Dressing up just because. Listening to live music instead of rushing to the next thing. Everything winds down by midnight… and honestly, I didn’t miss the late-night chaos. My Personal Tips: Write in custom room service requests—they’ll make it happen, Do Afternoon Tea at least once, Midship balcony = perfect choice, Bring packing cubes + magnetic hooks, Book spa early Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for something elegant, peaceful, and a little more meaningful than the typical Caribbean cruise… this is it. It’s not for everyone—but for the right traveler, it’s unforgettable.

It is some 20 years since we ventured on QE and 41 cruises later we decided to return . Booking was easy through Vacations to go flights with BA. We opted for outside obstructed at a good price but received the bidding email and through a minimal bid succeeded in an upgrade to Club balcony. Ship was lovely and clean and as traditional as we remember it. Balcony cabin - no issues plenty of space and always immaculate. Club dining Our first experience and we loved it . Much more peaceful than the hustle and bustle of the MDR. Food was always hot and service was excellent. Gala nights - we enjoyed dressing up but clearly some guests had not got the memo for the dress code throughout the cruise as baseball caps, shorts, trainers made their appearance in the evenings. Such a shame as QE is a traditional ship with a dress code - I do hope Cunard holds firm with this. There’s a mass market of casual cruise ships for those that want them. Entertainment was fine - we always found something to do. The on board band Changez were good at getting everyone on the dance floor. Itinerary - we have visited all the islands a number of times and always enjoy the Caribbean. I would have preferred less sea days but we knew the sail down and back took two days either way. So all in all nothing not to like we had a fabulous cruise in every way except……for one little thing that I only put on here as warning to others. On board fashion shop - I am not a great shopper on board but on the middle sea days spotted a dress of interest. I was told by the sales staff as there are no changing rooms the procedure offered is to take the item to your cabin and if not returned within two hours a charge will be made. The sales assistant took my room number and name on a piece of paper at 5.35pm - no signature required and no receipt given . I returned the dress within 20 minutes as unsuitable. Again reassured nothing further to do. Embarkation day on the room account invoice I had been charged for the dress . With limited time I explained to the Bursars office who in turn spoke to the sales assistant via telephone. I was assured of a refund to my card that day. Two weeks on and unanswered emails I am no further forward. I have no receipt and only my word and the recollection of the sales staff. I am considerably cross that my card was charged without my knowledge or permission. I have tried calling Cunard UK as a UK citizen but they are unable to help as I booked through US. TA gave me a contact email but todate Cunard have not replied. So take note do not take any items to your cabin and if you do ensure you get a full receipt if you return them and check your onboard account.! Cunard need to address this procedure as I can’t see that it’s legal to charge a guests card without their presence or knowledge. That said I would recommend Cunard but do your research if it’s the cruise for you.

We took a pair of cruises originating in Miami ("in-transit guests" for a total of 21 nights. Western Caribbean followed by Eastern Caribbean. We have cruised with several lines. Cunard was good, not as good as some others. Positives: The Queen Elizabeth is a beautiful ship and was meticulously cared for. Service was excellent, especially at dinner in the Britannia, alternative restaurants, and Verandah. I had to go to the medical centre and they took good care of me there. The excursions we booked through Cunard were very good, very organized, and took the amount of time promised. Negatives: Lack of English Beers in the English (Golden Lion) Pub. Lack of ambiance in the "alternative dining" spaces. They were held in the regular Lido area so were not decorated to match the menus. The Verandah steakhouse was a dedicated space and so was very nice. We were surprised by the considerable amount of motion on the ship at all times. We have been on other cruise ships, large and small, and the motion was far, far less. The first week of our trip involved time changes between Eastern Daylight time, "ship time," and Central time. Communication by the ship as to which time zones were being observed when was not adequate. Many people were confused, and we missed an activity because of this lack of clarity. The disembarkation process seemed like it would be organized, but was in fact rather messy. When we entered the terminal it turned out we had to stand and look for and pull our own bags off of a carousel, similar to an airport. This is not what other cruise lines do. They pull all the luggage off and organize it in the terminal by colored tags, so you spend very little time looking for your luggage. I have a food allergy and the dining rooms worked hard to accommodate me at dinner. Breakfast and lunch were more problemmatic.

Having loved the atmosphere on QM2, it was an easy choice to try QE from Miami. Nearly everything was stellar! Boarding was calm and smooth. First stop, the cozy English pub for fish and chip and pints. Received a warm welcome from my cabin attendant. Up next, a fun sail away party on the large aft pool deck which is flanked by shaded, cushioned seating areas. Be advised, anyone in their sixties will be the younger of the demographic. A total of 6 children were on the ship, reportedly - hooray - and no yelling or profanity, or constant canned music. No crowds and plenty of space! Entertainment and musicians were mixed. The much-anticipated production show “Come From Away” hit a nerve, “entertainment” based on the worst terrorism attack on American soil. The majority of the audience seemed to love it, though. Food and beverage were well- presented. As with other cruise lines, the crew is eager to have you satisfied, merely ask. With the QE based in the USA this season, the wine list had to be redone, sadly. However, most of the Cunard-branded options are quite good. As a solo traveler, my total outlay for 12 days, including drinks (and a t-shirt) was $2500.
