Ship Reviews

This is a very clean ship and staff was very attentive. The islands do not have much to do unless you snorkel or scuba diving. The excursions s we went on were thru the cruiseline. Curacao we went on the factory tour of the orange liquor. There was some poster showing the production. The liquor was more expensive than the vendors at the port very much a let down than described in the review. Bonaire went on the Look Out beac tour. The shore was coral and steps down a ladder to get into the water. One bon alcoholic drink and a small pool available. The tour was nice of the island but not much to see. Flamingos were scarce to see.Arubathe excursion was terrible a tour around the island nothing to see. We went to a butterfly museum and that was nice. The food on the ship was very good with many sections each night. The deserts were just ok. The breakfast on the Lido deck was typical but crowded. Many people did not wash their hands or use the purely provided it was not strictly enforced by the staff. The pools are small. The pool was not able to be used unless you wanted to breath thick cigarette and cigar smoke that waffles into the Lido dinning area. The smoke also was bad near the casino and waffles into the venues. The venues are small and close together. The only music that people seemed to enjoy was at the BB King great band and talented singers. The Rock area the singer was terrible as we're the singers at the cooling pianos. They should just play the piano and not sing. The shops did not have alot to offer. Minimal jewelry unless you were in the Effy store. The orange party was alot of fun and many people participated. The ship was nicely decorated for the holiday. The floral demonstration was nice and worth going to.

This was our second time sailing on the beautiful MS Rotterdam, and we chose her again for a magical Christmas cruise. We booked two veranda cabins to accommodate our group: a spacious spa standard veranda and a lovely obstructed veranda cabin. Both offered comfortable accommodations with plenty of storage, modern amenities, and those wonderful private balconies perfect for enjoying sea views and holiday sunsets. One of the highlights was the dining. We thoroughly enjoyed the main dining room every day of the cruise, with its elegant atmosphere and delicious, varied menus. We also dined frequently at the Pinnacle Grill for both lunch and dinner – the steaks and seafood were outstanding, and it never disappointed. The service was top-notch throughout, from attentive waitstaff in the restaurants to the friendly crew who went above and beyond to make our holiday special. The entire team was professional, warm, and truly made us feel like family. Overall, the Rotterdam delivers great service with a great crew – everything from housekeeping to guest services was impeccable. We loved our time onboard so much that we definitely plan to return in the near future. In fact, we’ve already booked her again for next Christmas on an 11-day itinerary, and we can’t wait to come back!

Pros: Great service, food and dinning experience. Two pickleball courts and fun people. The best rock band experience at sea. Fun entertainment staff and great cabin service. Classical music trio playing multiple times a day. Thanks for bringing them back. Cons: Limited stage show presentation quality. Skews to programed music and recorded backup singing, limited budget presentation. Exceptions were comics and magician. Good scheduling of entertainment across ship and balance with early and late dinning times so that venues were not crowded. This was our 4th time on Holland America and our first time traveling on the day of departure. No flight delays and the transit by taxi from the Ft. Lauderdale airport to ship is about 20 mins so we easily made our boarding time. Saved on logistics and cost of an overnight hotel. At 69 yrs old we did the white water rafting in Costa Rica and had a great experience.

This was our 3rd HAL cruise and my wife and I had a very good time. Rotterdam was a very nice ship and really easy to navigate. The crew on the ship was excellent especially the bartenders at Billboard Onboard. Our cabin steward was also very good, anything we needed we received in a timely manner. We ate at the Pinnacle Grill one night and it was great. The service and the food was terrific and I highly recommend it. The food in the MDR was well prepared and really good, however my wife and I were not impressed with the menu. A few times we passed on appetizers or desserts because we didn't like the choices. I realize this is an opinion and others might think otherwise. Entertainment was very good and the comedian was also well received. The one thing that was lacking on the ship was activities. There were 4 sea days , 2 in each direction, and the activities on these days were rather sparse especially in the afternoon. All in all it was a good cruise and I would sail on HAL again.

The cruise would have been rated excellent but for lack of the usual free transportation from the pier to the port entrance at Curacao and Aruba. At both ports the berth was quite a bit farther away than we've experienced on previous cruises. There was some free transportation at Curacao but not at all times during the stay. None at Aruba. It was a very hot day, and many passengers that we spoke to did not get off the ship, therefore did not visit those ports. Knowing the demographics of the passengers on board, we felt that Holland America did not give us the excellent port service that we have received from them in the past. That being said, the cruise otherwise was wonderful. We always were pleased with the food, but it was actually better than our last Rotterdam cruise; and the entertainment was definitely improved. Classical music was brought back, and the shows on the World Stage were a welcome improvement. We would like to see smoking in the ship's casino eliminated. We have not noticed that on ships with smokeless casinos any difference in the activity at the machines or tables.
