The Haven, Reimagined
As the very first Norwegian ship to debut The Haven in 2010, Norwegian Epic is once again making waves in redefining this luxurious enclave. In November 2020, The Haven on Norwegian Epic underwent extensive renovations. From reimagined Suites to redesigned experiences including The Haven Restaurant and The Haven Courtyard Pool & Sundeck, you can soak in true luxury at sea.
My husband and I hadn't been on a cruise for a long time. We decided to do this cruise because we felt like this way we could see a little bit of everything. The embarking process was easy. We got to the terminal a half hour early, we had no problems getting through and on to the ship. We booked a balcony room, and thought the room was just fine for the two of us. We had upgraded our drink package and had 3 specialty dining nights. I would have booked all 3 nights at Cagney's next time, but we did Cagney's and Le Bistro. The service at Cagney's was amazing, and our 2 experiences at Le Bistro was mediocre as far as the staff. The food was great though. On board the ship, we found the entertainment to be really good. We loved the "Howl At the Moon" show. There was an incredible singer at the Whiskey bar that we loved listening to. We decided to book 2 excursions with NCL. We did the full day Pompeii and Sorrento trip and Midieval Eze and Nice. I was extremely upset with the Sorrento/Pompeii tour. The guide was friendly and nice, but it seemed like we wasted so much time. We basically had one hour to explore Sorrento, and one hour to explore Pompeii. I have been wanting to see Pompeii since I was a child. We were suppose to have way more time there. The tour guide added a seashell art making thing that was not listed when I booked this tour. Midieval Eze and Nice was a nice excursion. I appreciated the tour guide and her understanding that we wanted to make use out of the time we had to see everything we could. All other days, we got off the ship and just winged it. We walked around Catania and found some incredible places to explore, eat, and drink. We took the port shuttle into Livorno, then took the train into Florence for the day. If you are willing to go explore, there are some incredible finds at each port. As far as the Epic, I thought the buffet was decent, and overall I have no complaints about the food. Overall, I thought the ship was nice, entertainment was great, The buffet washing hands guy and girl were hilarious, housekeeping on the 8th deck were friendly, wait staff seemed annoyed, entertainment staff were pleasant. We did not use the color coded system to disembark. We gathered our luggage, took it up to the buffet to grab breakfast one last time, and then hit the line on the way out. The taxi line was long, but you can't control when Barcelona closes streets due to a bicycle racing event. We appreciated the 2 days before and 2 days after deviation. It gave us a chance to explore Rome and Barcelona.
