First of all, the Breakaway is not our favorite ship because it always seems crowed. We chose the cruise because of NY departure. That being said, we did enjoy the cruise although we do have a few comments and suggestions. Let's start with the positive things: The staff was absolutely wonderful, every one of them greeted us with a smile. Our cabin steward was one of the best we've had (25 cruises) - cabin kept clean and extras we asked for were delivered graciously. We tend to avoid the buffet as we like to be waited on -Teppanyaki was fun to meet other cruisers and food was good. Our favorite is the Bistro and the service/quality of food did not disappoint us. Palomar was also good service and food enjoyable. We like the food in Cagney's but it was busy and not a relaxing place to dine. We also ate in Savors and Taste -- more than adequate, but service not quite up to par. The beverage package only included two chardonnay choices which I did not particularly care for. The bartenders at the Mixx went above and beyond to be sure they had a chardonnay that I liked. Really appreciated there attention to my likes. Here's the suggestions: The first three sea days are very congested for lunch and dinner. It seems that those days need to have Manhattan open for lunch. There's 4000 people not getting off ship on sea days that need to be fed. Wait times were up to an hour. Entertainment: First suggestion is to move some of the entertainment from atrium to Theatre. Impossible to find a seat for Deal or No Deal, Q & A with officers, etc. It seemed like the same people parked there in the morning and did not leave. It should be obvious when the people are so crowded into the atrium that a larger spot is needed. Very limited seating or standing room at the Shakers Bar to enjoy the music. Glad to see they moved Rumors from Syd Norman to the Theatre. Comedians were good - but only for one show. Repeat performances for the entire cruise.. Usually new performers join at one of the ports. Dueling pianos were fun although too much emphasis on giving money with the requests. We did feel there could have been more entertainment - not just repeating. Over all we feel the quality of food has declined in general. And special requests are more of a challenge. Beverage packages have less choices. There is an adult and children's pool - only the last warm sea day did I see anyone monitoring children in the adult pool. Also children in the adult hot tubs. Usual chair hogs - folks claiming chairs early in morning and not showing up for hours despite the signs stating items would be removed after a specified time. We never saw any staff member addressing this. There were some mechanical issues with ship during this cruise and we skipped the last port in order to return to NY on time. That was disappointing and there didn't seem to be any extra activities offered. Our previous cruises were on the Joy and Prima which we enjoyed very much -- love the Observation area that has expansive windows for incredible views. Breakaway has plenty of outdoor quiet sitting areas but no place to sit and enjoy the views if inclement weather. Overall, we enjoy cruising with NCL but hope that someone listens to the comments left on these reviews.
