Ship Reviews

Only our second Oceania cruise experience though we have been on almost three dozen over the past twenty years (- mainly small ships). Embarkation and disembarkation somewhat hampered by port facilities though Oceania's process itself was efficient. Our room was a penthouse "suite" which had been renovated in the past couple of years meaning it had an updated bathroom (-unlike many of the smaller rooms) meaning a larger, better appointed shower. The suite had a walk-in closet and lots of drawers resulting in great choice of storage. The sitting area provided both a couch, coffee table, a dining table and two chairs (- the latter useful for room service). The balcony has a table and two reclining chairs. In total the room was well appointed and spacious. Marina has four specialty reservation dining options which we visited at least twice each. As had been our experience on Sirena, Red Ginger was our favourite as one of us is pescatarian. Service in all was very attentive. Apart from dining in the specialty options our dinners were split between the dining room and room service. As the penthouse suites can order room service from the specialty restaurants, we did and enjoyed that benefit. While the dining room menu isn't as varied as the specialty restaurants, the service was good. We found the dining room was a great alternative for lunch on days when you couldn't sit outside at the Terrace. The Terrace was used for a couple of dinners, some lunches and most breakfasts. Better presentation than Sirena because of more space but the same problems - hot dishes aren't always hot enough. The other problem we encountered was a supply problem - some items disappeared or never appeared. Some fresh vegetables, cereal choices, fruit choices were sporadic which may be a reflection of the series of ports that we visited. We frequently used Aquamar for breakfast or lunch as an alternative. It provided a healthy change of pace and the service was very pleasant. Also, unlike Waves., it has heating which is an asset in a cold weather cruise. Note that you can order from Aquamar and have it served in Terrace which nicely accommodates differing tastes and cold weather. Due to Antarctica being part of the itinerary, we had five specialists aboard as "enrichment". Each provided a number of lectures, were available in a "penguin corner" late mornings and frequently on deck spotting. During the three days in Antarctica they provided 'live' updates from the bridge. All were approachable and added real value to the experience. Also nice that if you missed one of the presentations, video recordings were available on your suite's TV. Due to the penthouse suites' access to an executive lounge for coffee, we didn't use the baristas coffee as much as we might of on a similar length cruise. However, the inside space on Marina that "wraps" around the barista coffee bar (- including the library) was a good spot to use as an alternative on chilly days when you wanted to be deck-adjacent for the sights in Antarctica and the fjords. Some used the windows of Horizons for this purpose but that doesn't have the same quick outside access. As for the other public amenities: Casino - We never used, never very busy, hard to understand why the space isn't used for something else. Shops - We never used, never busy, unimaginative. Bars - We had a lunch/dinner drink plan which was enough so we didn't really feel the need! Shows - We're itinerary focused so not our priority. there were a couple of tango events which was a nice touch. Spa/gym facilities - Used the gym daily and found the facilities superior to the smaller Sirena - more equipment, space, and classes. Concierge hot tubs were a nice amenity but surprisingly not a lot of traffic. Our housekeeping (Viktoria and Kyaw) were excellent and our butler (Jithin) was very conscientious. As noted, we had good service experience in many of the dining venues. Also should note that, due to windy conditions, tender staff really did outperform. Should note that we have never been on a cruise where the General Manager was so visible. While particularly evident during the Antarctic days, also otherwise. This itinerary is a bit of a hybrid. At first glance it appears to the a South American/Antarctic combo which is certainly true. But the experience is more of a combo of a crossing/repositioning and a normal itinerary. There were a number days without ports which may be foreign to those that like to walk on land almost daily. We enjoyed the variety of geography offered but were prepared for the more frequent sea days. Of note, this was our first cruise where Americans were a minority. In fact, the combo of Canadians and Brits exceeded them (- also a fair number of Aussies). While just over half of the passengers were Oceania repeats, that was much lower than our Sirena experience. In total the passengers also seemed on average to be slightly younger than Sirena though older than our non-Oceania experience. We enjoyed the cruise itinerary, the service/amenities as noted. However, because we are itinerary focused, some amenities while appreciated aren't crucial in our decision -making. Generally, Oceania seems to cater to an older customer that really appreciates a consistent on board assortment of dining and entertainment along with some packaged land experience (i.e. excursions over independent). This Oceania itinerary offered us something different (i.e. Antarctica, fjords, Chilean small ports) while many of the ship's amenities were secondary. Accordingly, we would sail again with Oceania where the itinerary is different. Otherwise, we will probably return to alternatives that are smaller and with more health-based dining.

We have just returned from the Palms to Penguins 24 day cruise (South America & Antarctica) on the Oceania Marina. This was our first cruise with Oceania, although have cruised a lot otherwise (20+). Our travel agent recommended this cruise for us after considering all available options for Antarctica as a destination. We are so glad she made this recommendation! Overall we had an excellent experience. We made many new friends and enjoyed this journey immensely. We booked a B2 class Veranda, deck 8 mid / forward starboard side. Our room steward was great and always had everything perfect for us. We thought our cabin was perfectly fine, aside from the small shower. There is a full sized tub, separate from the shower, which we never used. Hopefully they remove it and make the shower larger when it goes in for refresh later this year. We did not book the beverage package, as we knew we were going to have a good amount of OBC we could use for drinks. We did order wine with meals, had drinks at the Martini Bar and Horizons and never felt we were missing out not having the package. We were NOT happy they discontinued the early happy hour - therefore the only happy hour was from 9-10pm. We found cruising on Oceania to be welcoming, relaxing and totally enjoyable. The staff was amazing, always looking to make your experience special. For this special voyage to Antarctica / South America we were particularly thrilled with the subject matter experts chosen to share their knowledge with all of us. Five amazing people, all with incredible depth of knowledge for the regions we cruised through (Mammals / Birds / multitude of Sea Life / Geology / Historical knowledge and more). They really made the experience even more memorable. We enjoyed dining in all the specialty dining options, the main dining room, the terrace cafe, and other areas. As our schedule permitted, we joined afternoon tea and treats in Horizon's. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Barista's daily for specialty coffee and snacks. We loved the fabulous Brunch offered in the main dining room one time during the voyage - very nice. Personal tip - we ate breakfast almost daily in the main dining room. It is just much calmer and less crowded than the Terrace grill (buffet). They have some really nice options on their breakfast menu, including some from Aquamar (healthy options). For many cruises now it has been our preference to not eat breakfast in any buffet option. Just soooo much more enjoyable in the dining room and our food was always hot and arrived in a timely manner. We attended most entertainment offered and enjoyed most performances. We also participated in the Art classes, and the craft corner in Horizon's on sea days. Oceania does a great job at offering many activities to keep folks busy, if you want to be busy. We had many sea days on this voyage, which is always a challenge for keeping folks entertained. We enjoyed time at the pool / hot tubs as weather permitted, which was limited on this cruise. We found the deck chairs very comfortable, the pool lovely and the atmosphere great. We had many tender ports, and the staff did a great job getting us to and from shore, even in difficult sea conditions. We chose this cruise because it went to the Falkland Islands and Antarctica. Everything else was a bonus for us. So, we were thrilled when we were able to tender in to the Falklands, which is often a skipped port due to wind / sea conditions. We were lucky because we booked an early excursion (private) to see the King Penguins at Volunteer Point, and we made it there. We were on our way back when the captain called for all to return to the ship as weather conditions had changed adversely. Folks with afternoon plans, sadly missed experiencing The Falklands. So, I'd recommend booking the earliest excursions in ports like this. Our cruise was also unable to make it in to Ushuaia Argentina due to weather. Two other ports we visited on Sunday's, and most everything was closed. We made the most of it by walking and exploring on our own, just no shopping / retail options to consider. I never considered that we'd port into cities / towns that ween't "open", something to think about.... We booked approximately half of our excursions through Oceania and half through private companies with good reviews or references. Overall we were happy with the choices. We enjoyed the game room on Oceania - we met our friends there several times to play games. This game area and the library were quite busy locations. We booked this cruise before NCL offered the Loyalty Honoring Program. When we learned of the program we applied for Honoring for this cruise and it was granted. We appreciated this, as it gave us more OBC, and Platinum level perks while on Oceania Marina. This was a bonus for us and we thoroughly enjoyed the perks (captains cocktail party, dinner with officers, wine in stateroom, and more). We did notice shortly after embarking that a nasty cold virus was spreading on the ship. We did our best to sanitize and steer clear, but eventually we caught a cold (a mild cold for us) as well as everyone on board it appeared. The ship staff were constantly working to keep all areas clean and tidy, and encouraged all persons to use sanitizer, wear masks when needed and requested people cover their faces when coughing etc. Unfortunately, some people just don't care or pay attention to this. We were told the average age for folks on our cruise was 83. We are 56 and 61 years old. We were surprised to hear the average age being this high as most everyone on board seemed very able to get around and the ship wasn't full of scooters etc. We saw no children at all, and would not recommend cruising with any on Oceania. We loved the atmosphere on board - relaxed, calm and enjoyable. We decided to purchase an Oceania Future Cruise Credit and will be waiting for their full 2028 schedule to be published in March. We already have a cruise booked (NCL) for 2027, so we will just have to see what Oceania offers for 2028. We tend to be easy going people and understand sometimes there's a glitch here and there. Hope this review is helpful.

South America, BA to RIo and our first Oceania. (Previous NCL, Cunard, Seabourn and one Regent) Ship is quite nice and first impressions were good. Beautiful dining room and well maintained ship. Room (Verandah concierge) was showing its age and up for a Reno later this year we were told. Rain Shower was first ive not been able to use due to my height (6’4) but wand worked ok. I criticize people who write here and get into the minute details “they used to make their own croutons but now i know they are from a box” etc so point form: -food was very good. -service at times lacked esp in main dining room -we loved the aquamar restaurant -specialty restaurants all good thou occasional issue with food served cool -quality of food excellent: lobster, soufflés, foie gras -entertainment good but not great -pool and deck area good and never seemed crowded -id give seabourn and regent a 9 or so out of 10 and give Oceania an 8 -we thought we got great value when considering all included (Wifi, drinks, tips) -We would take Oceania again with pleasure

Loved the size of ship (only 1250 pax). Easy to find your way. We enjoyed the grand dinning room. Food and service were wonderful. Found the service was good in specialty restaurants, but food too many times was over seasoned and lobster overcooked. The night we had lobster in the grand dinning room was perfect. Nice selections everyday on the menu. Shops on the ship were Just okay. Had a hard time using our on board credit. So used it at the over priced spa. The cooking classes were a nice way to pass the time on sea days. Learned some good tips. We chose the penthouse suite, the space was good, our butler excellent, and housekeeping team excellent. This was our first time on Oceania. Our last few trips have been on NCL Haven and Queen Mary II, and I have to say Oceania met our expectations. Nice trip.
