Ship Reviews

Cruise started well with an offer to bid on an upgrade. Much to our amazement our $200 bid to Concierge Class was accepted. Same Balcony cabin but access to Terrace Spa deck, 3 complimentary bags of laundry, 4 pressing vouchers, Concierge lounge (deck 9 not Executive lounge deck 11), priority boarding and a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival. Great value. We were able to pre-reserve one booking at each of the specialty restaurants. Once onboard, beginning at 8 am you could visit the reservation desk in the atrium to book one of the specialty restaurants for that evening. We were able to go to our two favourites - Red Ginger and Toscana again. MDR food and service was excellent (both wait staff and sommelier). We had the champagne, wine and beer beverage package and we were pleased to discover that we could order these at any bar during lunch and dinner hours. Apparently, Oceania reduced the number of happy hours (1 versus 2) but opened the champagne, wine and beer to bars instead of eating areas and room service only. Breakfast juice bar (Waves Grill deck 12) open until 11 am served brilliant smoothies and "energy" drinks. Baristas Coffee Cafe on Deck 14 served excellent coffee, cappuccino, latte, etc as well as light breakfast offerings and light lunch offerings. Waves Grill's sandwich area (outdoor but protected seating) was a sit down, wait staff take your order. Salad options and a special preparation station just past the grill was also an option (usually fish or chicken). Terrace Cafe offered indoor and outdoor aft seating. Grill area prepared omelets in the morning and became a pizzeria at night. Terrace was open breakfast, lunch and dinner. Menus available on your in-cabin television. Room service was always also an option. Bar options included the Martini bar and Casino bar both on deck 6 and Horizons bar deck 15. Horizons Bar was also the location of the daily Teatime event at 4 pm. Martini bar and Casino bars each have their own menus 0 Martini specializing in martinis and Casino specializing in the most delicious smoked cocktails. We tried both but Casino was our hands down favourite. Both bars also have wine and beer and we did enjoy non-smoked cocktails at the Casino bar as well. The mixologists are magicians - just try to order your favourite non-menu item! You'll be pleasantly surprised. Library was large but surprisingly disappointing. Fiction area was filled with many authors we'd never heard of. Don't rely on their library to fill those sea days. Just past the library is a small games room with tables and board games. Entertainment staff and production dancers and singers hosted O point activities - toss, bocce ball, golf, trivia. These were scheduled at the same time every day - minor changes to trivia times if in port. O points collected were "cashed in" for Oceania swag at the end of the cruise. The point value for goods was printed in the Currents toward the end of the cruise. During our cruise, trade in was after trivia. All trivia participants were asked to leave the theatre and line up outside. Throughout the cruise there were more shortages (i.e.. no blueberries last week of cruise) and this was apparent at the trade in event. Sizes or particular colours not available. Free good quality swag regardless. Onboard shopping was both high end and average (typical cruise line purchases). Surprised there wasn't any liquor available for purchase. Surprising variety of entertainment onboard. A variety of talented artists (musicians, singers, comedians, magicians) as well as production shows with ship singers and dancers. Interestingly, there was only one show per night at 9:15. Theater seating was never an issue during this cruise. If you wanted particular seats, suggest going at least 15 minutes before show time otherwise usually seating available. Deck 15 jogging track (10 times equals 1 miles), shuffleboard, croquet etc. As a result of our upgrade, we did not need to use the self-serve laundry facilities. These are located on most cabin decks are free to use and provide detergent but not softener. We requested permission to disembark the night before the cruise ended as we had a midnight flight. Email received shortly after our agent submitted the request and was "on file" onboard. Prior to our sailing, NCL (parent company) announced with status recognition program across the cruise lines. As a result, we had an additional $650 non-refundable credits to spend on board (cannot be used at casino). We also have NCL shares so received another $250 non-refundable OBC. We generally find staff on cruise ships to be excellent but on Oceania, like everything else onboard, the staff was another notch above. Cabin stewards ready to serve, waitstaff anticipating your needs, bartenders (Oh My), staff in the shops and at the future cruise sales all excellent. The young lady in the future cruise was so helpful in assisting us book our next Oceania cruise. We had two different itineraries in mind and she printed out and delivered to our cabin fare options for all. The young lady in the shop spent time with us and offered suggestions as to how best use our non-refundable OBC. At the end of the cruise, we received a printout of our sailing distances between ports. A few comments about the Oceania nightly "Currents". Take a minute to read it while enjoying your pillow chocolates. Schedule of various activities but also hours of operation for various venues, port agent information and "going ashore" information especially if a tender port. Your first "Currents" will have the itinerary and you will receive an update itinerary as changes arise. Suggest booking shore activities prior to boarding. You should be able to use your non-refundable credits to book - if not online call the Oceania number. Could be the ports we visited but many excursions sold out. The one excursion we did book we ended up cancelling. We had booked a beach resort with BBQ lunch but we were advised the resort had been damaged in a recent typhoon. The Destination Desk called us to ask if we had read the updated information in the full shore excursion package in our cabin. Of course, we had not and would have been very disappointed!! Again, another example of outstanding Oceania service. One final note - unlike the majority of other cruise ships we've sailed the cabin walls are metal so leave those handy magnets at home!

We absolutely loved everything about this cruise. It was the best we've ever had, and spoils us for future cruises. The whole philosophy of the cruise set the stage, with all that is included in the initial cost: wifi, gratuities, multiple specialty restaurant visits, lots of beverages, upgraded stateroom, and self-serve laundry (with detergent provided) cost us nothing extra! Some of those we simply wouldn't have done, but getting them was fantastic. Our cabin was ridiculous - so large for a cruise, such a good bed and large bathroom and shower. The service was amazing - crew just waiting to bring things. The crew to guest ratio (along with ship size and design) led to minimal wait times in lines for anything. Just a pleasure. Great gym, great balcony, great food (loved the smoked salmon in the morning and the sushi for dinner), and great crew who learned our names and greeted us daily. We could hope for nothing more than our room attendants Andi and Andrea provided. Just such a happy service-oriented crew that sought to provide us the best time - they succeeded! The route was incredible (komodo dragons and numerous Australia stops), but the approach of this team would make any trip wonderful.
