Ship Reviews

This was our 4th cruise and second with Princess. Embarkation, disembarkation throughout the cruise was the best we have experienced with minimal queueing. There was 4 of us so we arranged our own transfers to and from the boat. Staff in all areas of the ship were cheerful, efficient and helpful. Staff in the buffet were quick to clear tables and find you somewhere to sit and came round with water, coffee, juice and bar staff were also available to take drink orders. We found bar staff fairly responsive so never bothered with ordering drinks through the app. The slowest service area was probably the International Cafe. Reserving spots for dining was impossible if not done early but we were happy to share table and got seated quickly in the Coral Dining room. We did use the buffet one evening and were pleasantly surprised by the experience, quiet with an excellent choice including lobster. Food was generally good with plenty of choice. The restaurant was comfortable so you could sit in short sleeves. Our previous experience on Coral Princess was very different when you always needed a wrap, consequently my evening wear was a little heavier than it needed to be. I could have taken more summery things. We used the Crown Grill to celebrate a birthday but the main dining room is just as good. We are not great joiners as far as entertainment and activities go but there was a good choice. The shows we attended were very good although seating was sometimes in short supply but they did let you stand. Not many enrichment talks. Excellent jazz trio especially when augmented by the house band and one good pianist who needed a bigger venue as he was very popular. We booked when there wasn't much choice and I was concerned we were a little near the elevators on the 10th deck but there were no issues and no sound transfers between rooms. Beds were comfortable, shower small but powerful with plenty of hot water. Wifi was good although it did pop out at least once a day to tell me I had too many devices when I only had one with me but quick t reconnect to fast service. Very little to watch on room TV and no coverage of the Olympics. We found the pool areas very noisy so didn't swim much. Ports of Call: we are not beachy people and my husband has limited mobility which affects our choices Aruba - easy to walk into town. We caught the local bus to San Nicolas to view the street art and we visited the community museum. Not a lot in there but you get a personal tour with lots of information and anecdotes, well worth the $5 fee. Curacao - easy to walk onto town. We arranged a 2 hour tuk-tuk tour, not cheap but great fun. Later we walked into the town to view the lovely architecture and walk over Queen Emma bridge. St. Lucia - catamaran trip to view the Pitons and time on a beach. A bit disappointing as the catamaran is not ideal for sightseeing so really hard to get photos depending where you are sitting. Makes a good party boat though so fun on the way back with good snacks and rum punch. We didn't go to the planned beach as it was full and landed up in a pretty bay but it did mean dropping into chest deep water for a swim. It was a challenge to get back on! St. Kitts - easy walk into town and perhaps the most authentic feel with lots of locals. We did a 2 hour tour around the island including Romney Manor which we enjoyed although the mini bus was very short on leg room but did manage a lady in a wheelchair. Our guide Angel Gabriel was very informative and interesting. Contrary to other reviews I have read the talk on the batik process was very short so you had time to wander the grounds at Romney Manor. We enjoyed this tour. St. Thomas - went up the Skyride for fantastic views of the harbour. Surprisingly no coffee available at the top. San Juan - had planned a self guided walk but got offered a $20 tour which was very good. It was very warm and humid and I don't think we would have managed our planned walk A large comfortable mini-bus, sat around 20, money well spent. Interesting city Nassau - mmm - wish we had stayed on the boat. Crowded, dirty and very little to see. Fort Lauderdale - if you have time before or after your cruise go to Bonnet House. Lovely old property built in 1929. The grounds are an oasis of ponds and vegetation. We were lucky there was an exhibition of Zimbabwe sculptures which added to the experience. We left our luggage at Bounce and took the #40 bus, $1 each way for seniors.

We had a really great time despite a few minor things on the Carribean Princess. First the ship is older and showing its age. The staterooms have no charging stations or USB near the beds. Not a big issue but I bought a very long charger for my phone so I could have it by the bed when charging. Our room steward Jasper was FANTASTIC. Love the twice a day cleanings!! We had interior room which was adequate and not too far from the rear elevators. Entertainment was good for the most part. Our main issue was the food especially the buffet. It was hands down the worst food we have had on any cruse ship on any cruise line. The buffet served the exact same breakfast and lunch every day for 12 days. The food was lack luster and maybe just not to our taste. A full salad bar and whole fish every day on the breakfast buffet wasn't appetizing to us. It was also very difficult to find a seat since it was just always packed. The main dining room was fine just also lackluster and food options were basic. We had Princess Plus so we went to Sully Seafood and also just was ok. The over the top ice cream gelato dessert sundaes were fantastic at scoops!! Overall we did have a very nice cruise and we make it what we want it to be!

I would take this cruise again. I have been in over 20 cruises.. We book our cruises based on ports. We cruise Royal Carribean the most, with Princess second and Celebrity third. (have been on carnival but would not cruise with them again). We have sailed on this ship before and to rate the ship I would have to say is a matter of preferences. I like the ship, but others in my group prefer a ship with a prominade. Even if you don't care for the style of ship I will say that everything in the common areas appeared to be well maintained. The TV in our room stopped working properly towards the end of the cruise so we couldn't get live news. It did not get repaired. Otherwise I was happy with the state of the ship. The entertainment staff had good chemistry. Our room Stewart Jocelyne was absolutely fabulous. I don't know where they find such hard working people. She was so sweet too. The pool could use a few more chairs, or prevent people from reserving hairs at 7am. Can't say I've been on a cruise that didn't have that issues . The food wasnt as good as other past cruises. They use curry in way too many dishes. Then they have Indian night as a theme. Seriously you don't need to have Indian night every night was Indian night on the buffet . They really miss the mark on Italian night. It shouldn't have been that hard. Just make a meat sauce and a marinara sauce and some pasta and meatballs maybe a lasagna. At the island dining they served what should have been eggplant parmesan but they forgot the tomato sauce.I get that they want people to pay extra for specialty dining. I don't need fancy but I try to eat healthy. The island restaurant didn't even have a garden salad option. The few times I had beef, it was tough. I changed out for chicken one night and it was good. I was told the Beef Wellington was very good. I did not order it. For breakfast we would get room service if we had an early excursion. They have an option for bacon egg and cheese on an English muffin with a note that eating eggs that are not fully cooked can cause illness. But I could not seem to get them to fully cook the eggs either. I never eat runny eggs because of the risk of salmonella. That's the last thing you want to get on a cruise ship. If you want sugar with your coffee be sure to ask because they somehow assume that we're all using sugar substitutes. We enjoyed the ports and the entertainment and games provided by the energetic activity staff. They were very personable. We particularly liked Vishy I do really miss that they don't offer a coffee beverage package like they used too. The non-alcoholic package that includes coffees would have cost over $400 because I had two roommates even though they would not be using this. Also I really don't care for water and really prefer to drink seltzer but that would have been way too expensive so if during any activity I wanted a cup of coffee I could go to the 5th floor and pay $3 or go to the 15th floor and get it up there. And carry it back down to whatever event we were participating in. We did order a few drinks while attending games and we also would try to order glasses of water but I will say the bar staff did seem to be pretty stretched. I know princess is part of carnival and carnival is still dealing with debt caused by COVID. Our status was Ruby and we are now platinum. It appears that the only benefit iwe could now get is Wi-Fi for half price. Wi-Fi was $40 a day when we chose to purchase it. We have a similar status on Royal Caribbean but it gives us a few days of Wi-Fi and a few drinks. I'm sure I will take another princess cruise in the future But I do feel we get treated better on Royal Caribbean

My wife and I enjoyed the cruise very much; the Panama Canal transit was a highlight. I will list the aspects that we particularly enjoyed, followed by a few problems. The ship is somewhat old by cruise standards, but the cabins (at least ours) and public areas are in very good condition. We enjoy the wrap-around Promenade deck, the Piazza, and Skywalkers. Embarkation and disembarkation were speedy and efficient. We were on the ship by 11:30 am. Service was almost universally efficient and friendly. The crew really did try to address every request and fix every problem. We ate in Sabbatini's the first night, and as in previous cruises on other ships, the experience was excellent: the service, food, and atmosphere. The Crown Grill was also good but to us, not as outstanding as Sabbatini's. We enjoyed the selection of food in the buffet for breakfast and lunch most days. My one complaint is that at breakfast the yellowish liquid that is served as orange juice bears little resemblance to real orange juice, even the concentrated kind. And the scrambled eggs look nice from a distance, but are made from some kind of reconstituted eggs and have no flavor or egg-like texture. The omelets were very good, however. Service in the main dining room was generally good, but rather rushed. The waiters are moving fast but appear to have too great a workload. The quality and variety of the food in the main dining room (Palm for us) suited us very well. All of the ports except Grand Cayman were new for us, and a primary reason for choosing this cruise. We did excursions in every port except Aruba, all of which were interesting. At the Canal we did the all-day excursion that buses you to a ferry boat that travels from the western side of Gatun lake through the Pacific locks to the Pacific Ocean. We highly recommend this, even though it takes all day. The only downsides were the bus tour guide who cranked the PA volume to the threshold of pain, and digressed to complaints about Panama's health care and education system, and the stop at the obligatory souvenir store. Two ship maintenance issues were annoying because they should have been easy to fix: About one third of the washers and driers were broken, leading to the need to go from deck to deck with wet clothes to find a working drier. Also, I discovered that the toilet brush in our cabin was broken - the handle had separated from the brush. When I asked the cabin steward for a new one, he said "They are all broken and I have no replacements." The "grubbing" for ratings of "10" by the officers and crew got completely out of hand in the last two days of the cruise. Please don't try to bully me. Some encouragement is fine, but enough is enough. Finally, there was one somewhat personal issue that should have been taken care of onboard, but was ignored. I have written to Corporate, and we will see if anything happens. Having said all that, we truly enjoyed the cruise, the issues were minor, and we would gladly sail on Caribbean Princess again. Also, we have a UK cruise booked on Majestic Princess in May.
