Ship Reviews

We traveled with our friends who had a 5 year old, and this was our first trip for our 3 year old kiddo. For the price, the itinerary, the length (12 nights) and the ability to drive to the terminal made this a no brainer for both households. So this review will be heavily geared for those traveling with young children. Cape Liberty Terminal: Honestly the best terminal/experience I've ever had. As you you are pulling up, they allow you to drop off your family and luggage at the terminal before heading to the garage. You didn't feel rushed like you would at an airport and it wasn't far at all to bring your "checked" luggage to the folks that get them onto the ship. The garage is immediately after the terminal and easily walkable with your luggage on disembarkation day. You pull up to the gate, a person at the gate gives you a QR code to scan, park and then you simply put in your CC and license plate. When you leave after the your cruise you simply drive out and get an email copy of the receipt. Safe, secure and easy. Through security and on the ship in less than 25 minutes. Same for disembarkation, less than a half hour from ship to driving out of the garage. Ship: We are big fans of the Oasis class, but the Odyssey was an outstanding ship for its size. If we can't find an Oasis class ship, we wouldn't hesitate to sail on the Odyssey/similar class. Plenty of space, decently easy to find a chair for the normal pools. Solarium was full the times we checked it out when the kiddos were at the kid program, but no problems with the other pools areas and hot tubs. Staff throughout were outstanding with our young children, from our room attendant, to the main dinning room staff, to every other workers we ran into. They properly engaged with our kids, were extremely patient and caring, even the other passengers were great too (she walked away with over 40 ducks lol). Layout of the ship is excellent and easy to get around, our cabin was on deck 7 midship, so easy to get to everything on decks 5-4 and MDR on 3. We only took elevators to get up to the pool decks, and waits weren't bad. We were never bored at anytime. Children's Program/Club: Our kid and our friend's kid were both in the 3-5 year old classroom. Extremely secure and safe which gave both the wives peace of mind. Very thorough with the check in process which we swung by there on embarkation to get them both registered. When you do drop off your kids, they provide you with a cellphone should they need anything from you while they watch your kid. They even called us to ask permission for face paint one of the days, like I said, very thorough. Both kids enjoyed it, they both were excited on the sea days that we dropped them off. I would and will definitely use their child programs on future trips. Food: We ate at the Windjammer, cafe two70, MDR, and Sorento's Pizza. 0 complaints, everything was great including the service. Food quality seems to be better now then it was just before covid. Service: Everyone was 10/10 that we interacted with. No one was pushy for making sales of anything. I paid as I went for my drinks since the wife barely drinks, and with a 3 year old in tow, even less. No one ever tried to sell me the beverage package at anytime. Same deal with specialty dinning or any other service. Even when we were shopping in the shops, no one ever gave a "sales pitch" at any time. I get it, some folks are fussy that you need to pay for specialty dinning and beverage packages, but this is RCL and it's been like that forever. It never bothers us since we always budget for it when we book our trips. Everyone we interacted with was hospitable, accommodating and very friendly. Entertainment: N/A since we had young children, what we did partake in was the kids slides, pools, arcade, and the "kids with adults" portion of the kids zone. Both the 3 year old and 5 year old had a blast for what realistically is an older demographic vacation. Beach days when we were at Port which was easy and entertaining for everyone involved. They both can't wait for their next cruise. We did book the Northstar which was a neat experience. Feels surprisingly higher than 300 feet, and beautiful views. Cabin: Balcony on deck 7 midship. We brought a "slumberpod" and their tiny blowup mattress for our 3 year old. When it was setup in front of the couch, we'd need to walk across the couch to get to the bathroom when it she was sleeping. It worked great for her and since it was blackout, we were able to hangout while she was sleeping. Our friends with their 5 year old had the couch/sofa made into a bed for their son and it worked out perfectly for them. At the time of booking there wasn't any larger rooms available or we would have jumped for a JS or bigger pending the cost. Our mattress was a little on the firm side but still comfy enough, just more noticeable if you slept on your side. For just under $5k for a 12 night cruise in a balcony cabin that was a 4.5 hour drive for us to the port. It was a 10/10 from the time of booking to disembarkation. I wouldn't hesitate to book this same itinerary and ship in the future. I don't think we can go back to 7 day cruises after this one, since the 12 night truly allows you to "disconnect" from the real world.

Captain Marek is one of the most outgoing and informative ship captains we have experienced. He was often seen throughout the ship. He was also very interactive with his crew. We also found his approach to monitoring the weather and being cautious about cruising to avoid heavy seas, when possible, to be comforting. The ship is well maintained and clean. The crew were all very friendly and helpful as they completed their duties. Good variety of food in Windjammer, Main Dining and Specialty dining. Two70 entertainment venue is fantastic; The Book production is a must see. Good fitness center and sporting opportunities, including bumper cars. The one very negative comment was the lack of taxis at the Cape Liberty Port. Despite the fact the ship and signs inside the Terminal indicated an abundance of taxis, the only public transportation were individual minivans arriving about 20 minutes apart and each were packed full, resulting in possible waits of over an hour, for an uncomfortable ride to the airport.
