Although this was our 66th cruise, this was our first Royal Caribbean experience. A quick 8 days from Cape Liberty that was only 1 hour away from home. Embarkment: Barely 10 minutes Our first Impressions: Wow, huge but well appointed. Cabin: A bit smaller than we have experienced from many others but clean and comfortable. The bathroom was small but great shower stall. Dining: We ate breakfast daily in the main dining room. Always nice and relaxing. Same menu each day. Servers always nice. We enjoyed several dinners in the main dining room with the same waiter and enjoyed each experience and the food. Specialty Dining: We paid for 3 different venues and each was a nice experience. Although all were a bit overpriced for the experience. The main dining room was just as nice. Overall dining and simple lunches were wonderful. Bars: The bar staff and servers were outstanding. We had a great week enjoying the ship and all it had to offer. The only downside was the volume of children (& it wasn't a school holiday) with many just running wild. Parents don't seem interested in having behaved kids or even offering consideration with people just wanting to have a good time without tantrums and yelling. I understood that with a huge ship, close to 5000 we would experience children but its the lack of parental control was alarming. Debarking: Wow, overwhelming quick and easy. It was a good experience but we will probably never sail on Royal again. The smaller ships are more our style, even if we must fly to ports to enjoy them.
This was another "get away from winter for a few days" cruise. It lived up to just about all expectations and surpassed most. Even got a bonus day of warmth on the last day. First, MDR was much better than last year. All the food was really good. Escargot, French onion soup and deserts always a hit. Service was outstanding! We really enjoy the food and atmosphere in the MDR, and only go to few other venues. Chops was, again, top notch, with food and service well worth the extra $$. Did Taste Of Royal again, and loved it, again. We don't do Windjammer too much, but the few times I went, it was all fresh and tasty. Cabin steward, Ronnie, was outstanding. Worked around our schedules and kept the room immaculate. Entertainment was okay, some of it was so-so, but the 4 Seasons Tribute "What A Night" was one of the best shows I have ever seen on a ship! Embarkation smooth and unbelievably quick. There was an emergency medical air evacuation that caused us to get in late to Bayonne, causing a backup getting off the ship and in the terminal. Not something that could be avoided, and for the most part, people took it in stride. (Another reason not to schedule connections too close). Can't wait until next cruise on this ship.
Our stateroom was excellent but could use a larger table for room service breakfasts on the veranda. Add an additional waste receptacle for used toiletries/tissues. in both the BATH/SHOWER room and the COMMODE/SINK room. Aside from those minor recommendations our stateroom was excellent and NUR our steward kept it that way for the entire cruise. The ship was in excellent condition and aside from ducks that people tossed into the large multilevel silver sculpture was always neat and clean. Elevators as always are a problem at the regular heavy use times, but this was to be expected. MDR food was surprisingly good and our waiter, assistant and area manager (Renato-Bintara-Jared) made the dining times a pleasure. Buffet was the usual and like all our cruises on Royal the desserts in both buffet and MDR were bland and lacked inspiration. We passed on our specialty dining vouchers, enjoying the MDR and it's ambiance. Entertainment was good but way to loud, nothing new there. Bar service was always speedy and drinks were right on spot. VOOM allowed us to use our iPhone as if we were at home. Casino offered the usual ways to donate our money but this time we walked out a bit ahead. Embarkation, Non-Stop right to the ship. With the medical evacuation the ship was a chaotic mess on debarkation. After multiple cruises on Odyssey, we would and will do it again without a moment's hesitation.
