Ship Reviews

This was our fourth Royal Caribbean cruise, all on different class ships and our first on a Radiance Class Ship. We have also cruised on Norwegian and Princess. So we are not as experienced as some, but we do have a fairly good cruise background. Embarkation: We arrived a bit early for our 1200 hrs embarkation time, there was no lines, we dropped off our luggage then went through the extremely quick check in process. We were on the ship in about 5 mins, no line-ups and no hassle, it was a great process. Cabin: We stayed on deck 8 – midships, with a balcony cabin. I have read some complaints that people could not see directly down to the water as the lifeboats were a couple decks below. While this was true, I found it did not diminish my experience in any way. As we expected the cabin was a bit dated but I found it to be very well laid out. I had no issues with the number of electrical outlets or the fact they were located near the desk and not next to the beds. We just charged our phones at night. I have also read others had some issues with the shower curtains, however, I did not have any, yes maybe glass showers would have been nicer the shower curtains did the trick and provided me ample room to shower without them clinging to me. I will say the bathroom was the most dated aspect of the cabin and while it was not flashy or modern like the newer ships, it was very functional and met all our needs. I love having the balcony door open at night so I could hear the waves and smell the sweet ocean breezes. Service: I can’t say enough about the crew on this ship, they were ALL outstanding and made our trip very enjoyable. They always had a smile on their faces and they were more than willing to assist with any request we may have had. The drink service was amazing!!!! – They were always there asking if we wanted another drink whether it was at the pool, solarium, any of the pubs or bars. The bartenders also did a great job; this has been the best crew and service I have ever received across all my cruises. Dining: We purchased a three-night specialty Dining package and we also chose to participate in the Chef’s Table experience: Main Dining Room – We were given my time dining as our preferred early seating was not available. We ended up eating here two nights in total. Our first night was not the best of experiences as we didn’t realize we could have made a reservation, but that was a minor point. We were seated after about a 15 – 20-minute wait, the process was a bit disorganized, and we felt that the entire meal was very rushed and did not provide a great experience. The food was good but the weakest of all our dining experiences. For our second evening meal we had made a reservation and process was still a bit disorganized as they had trouble finding as a table. After being guided around for about 5 minutes they were finally able to find us a table (for four). The meal was excellent as was the service. We also utilized the main dining room for breakfast for about half the time. We really enjoyed our morning meals, it was relaxed, the service and the food were also very good. For lunch we used the windjammer as well as a few breakfasts. We found a spot an the very back of the ship and took our food there, it was a magical spot! I found the windjammer food very good and did not have any complaints about the quality or choice of foods. One day they offered chicken burgers, they were one of the best I have ever had! For our specialty dining we ate one night at Giovanni’s Table and two nights at Chops Grille. Again the food and service were outstanding, at Chops I had the 16 oz Ribeye one night and the rack of lamb the other. Can’t say enough about how good they both were. And finally for the most amazing experience we were offered an opportunity to eat at the Chef’s Table. For those not familiar they offer up to 16 guests per night to dine in an exclusive and very private dining room; the meal is prepared personally by one of the ship’s chefs and served by our own server. Normally they will cancel the dinner if they are unable to fill a minimum number of seats, but luck was on our side as there were only four of us, myself, my wife and our two friends, we were able to experience the night with only the four of us. It was very special and we felt like royalty. The five-course meal was one of the best if have ever had (I’ve included pictures of the menu and some of the food). We felt like we were on one of those televised cooking show finales - loool Entertainment: We loved the individual performers that performed at different venues across the ship, our favourite was the solo singer/guitar player in the King and Country Pub. The one weak spot was we felt the production shows, admittedly we only went to one, it was a song and dace that I think was supposed to highlight music throughout the decades, starting I think in the 20s, maybe? Well it was god awful, they were out of key and screechy! Overall: We loved this ship and i would sail on this ship again in a heart beat. She was extremely easy to navigate and I love the layout. The use of glass and views from almost everywhere was fantastic. I loved the Schooner bar and the use of rich woods throughout the ship. She is not a sleek modern ship so if you are looking for that, this is not your ship. Our sailing had 2,350 passengers, she never felt crowed and there were always lots of seats. The crew kept an eye of for deck chair hogs! Brilliance of the Seas, so far has been my favourite Royal Caribbean ship, the other we have sailed on were Enchantment (our first), Explorer and Liberty. So to conclude - we had a very relaxing and enjoyable cruise! Disembarkation

This is our first cruise and it was a great experience. We had exceptional customer service across the board. There was Ina at the Solarium who remembered our names and our drinks every time we stopped by. He was willing to go above and beyond whenever we needed help. Our stateroom attendant Dadan is so lovely and we were so happy to have him. The ship map took us a minute to learn but over time it was easy to get used to. The bar service is dependent on how busy it was but the bartenders were always working fast and hard. The shop to get toiletries was only open after 6pm which sucked. I wish I could buy those at the guest services instead of waiting, especially on the busier nights when they had sales happening. The drink package is worth the $1k we spent on it since drinks are pricy, plus it includes all the drinks including the Starbucks cafe as well. The water station locations are very hard to find. Room service is not free. It's $7.95 plus a gratuity. Bring a Chromecast or Prime TV stick to cast your videos to since the cable in room is trash. Make sure you have a Bluetooth speaker to play music as well. It helps drown the sound of the kids running up and down the halls. For a first time cruise and for the price we paid, I definitely enjoyed the time we spent. Go to the events and feel comfortable socializing at them all.

We found this boat comfortable, easy to navigate, clean, nice staff, attractive. We enjoyed the food, both in the dining room and in the wind jammer buffet. We had an excellent steward and waiter staff. Even people who clean the tables and hallways are always courteous and friendly. We had a nicer group of passengers than usual, less openly drunk or kids running around hallways. We had a port to stop at every day. I would say that I like more on the schedule on the boat to choose from, but it appears staff is very busy, maybe couldn’t handle more activities. We stopped in Grenada, Tortola, Antigua, St. Vincent and Dominica. Tortola beaches were beautiful, did a tour in Antigua, that’s cool a taxi to her in Dominica and loved it. Our seat mates in the dining room took a tour of the botanical gardens in St. Vincent and we’re very happy. We did not like St. Vincent much. Getting on and off the ship was very easy and expedited.
