Every year, we (DH and myself) do a warm weather short cruise, typically in January. This year, we went in February and timing was perfect, especially after snow the weekend before! Besides the short sailing and warm weather, we chose this cruise for the ship. It has been on my bucket list, with all the bells and whistles that this ship has! And it did not disappoint! Below is a quick recap of what made our cruise so WOW! Embarkation: Our taxi dropped us off at 11:15am and by 11:30am, we were boarding the ship. Yes, that quick! Cabins were not available till 1pm. We enjoyed people watching from the Rising Tides bar and a snack from Sorrento's pizza. We later tried to eat at the Windjammer, but it was super busy. We ended up at the Solarium, which was more relaxing. Cabin: We had an interior cabin; I selected this one as it was located on the same deck as the Central Park neighborhood. Our cabin was spacious and included a couch. Plenty of drawers and closet space. I had an issue with the safe, but the Maintenance person fixed it quickly. Bathroom had space as well. We loved the deep sleep that we experienced in our inside cabin. We also appreciated the convenience of how close we were to restaurants, bars and even music venues (Music Hall at opposite end, plus live music in Central Park). Our cabin steward visited us daily, but we saw her in the hallway frequently (busy lady!). I noticed the balcony cabins overlooking Central Park. I find it hard to recommend--if there was loud music coming from the pool decks (which did occur at different times), you heard it down there. I will take my interior cabin over that. Dining: We did one pay for dining on the first night, at 150 Central Park. We both enjoyed our meal; DH had short ribs as appetizer and lobster thermidor and enjoyed it. I had pumpkin soup and the duck duo. Duck breast was amazing! The next night, I thought we had anytime dining, but upon examining my sea pass card, noted that we had set dining at 5pm! That is too early, and I felt horrible that we did not alert the restaurant on first night. We spoke to the Maître D at 5pm, and she allowed us to change to 645pm. We ate there for the next 2 nights and enjoyed our meals and the service. Everything came out hot and tasty. Our last day, we did "Taste of Royal" lunch; this was a 5 course meal, highlighting meals from the different pay venues. It was a great way to spend a sea day, and the best meal was from Chops (filet mignon and shrimp); the beef literally melted in our mouth. Needless to say, we were not that hungry for dinner, so ended up in the Solarium for lighter bites. We did make it back to the main dining room to tip our servers and thank them for their hard work. Entertainment: Loved the Intense water show, totally blown away by that experience! Enjoyed the 365 Ice Show as well. Acoustic guitar from Pablo was always a treat and the Jazz Group was fun to catch in Central Park. I rode the Merry Go Round on our last night. It was fun to watch the kids on the water slide. I passed on the Abyss slide. We played Trivia at Schooner Bar and a different type of trivia, Your Phone Your Power, at the Karaoke bar--you use your smart phone (they give you an app to use). Did well in both, brought home a cuzie and a cup! And of course, riding the Hightide Bar was a treat; we used it one night for a before dinner cocktail and an easy ride, from Central Park to 5th deck! We also caught the piano player in the elevator:) Staff: The staff on this ship was courteous and friendly. We enjoyed cocktails at the Mason Jar on 2 occasions; the 2nd time, with no seats, one of the bartenders brought out a chair from the dining room. Staff everywhere always had a smile, "good morning/afternoon/evening"-they were part of the WOW factor we experienced. Never had to wait long for drinks or anything. Ports of call: We did not get off at Coco Cay, but on the ship, we rented a Casita and enjoyed a full day of sun. We both got off in Nassau; my DH enjoys walking around town. I walked the shopping arcade and ended up at Sharkeez--for 2 beers and free Wifi. Then back to the ship. Disembarkation: We had a time of 7:45am; but it did appear that there was a delay in letting us off. It was a bit confusing; in watching the screen, it did not appear that our group was allowed to disembark. But at about 8am, my phone buzzed and said we could leave. Sure enough, our luggage was waiting for us. We had a late flight, so family picked us up and we spent time with them. All in all, this ship did not disappoint. The crew was helpful and smiling, food was delicious and activities did not disappoint. Wonder of the Seas provided enough of the WOW factor for our warm weather break!
Loved it! So much to do. Want to go on again for longer. The Super Bowl experience on board was so fun. Need time to learn this ship with how big it is. Liked being in the front of the ship for state rooms. I was deck 9 pretty much at the front and didn’t experience the rocking at night like others did. Dinner was excellent. Drinks were good and bar tenders were awesome! Jason from Jamaica and Putra were beyond incredible. They need promotions Royal Carribean! Casino was lively which is what you want. Shows and games were always entertaining. Impossible to do all the great things that are going on around this giant of a boat and that’s fine! As an adult loved having adult only areas both during day with the Solarium and at night. Having the app on the phone too is clutch for learning a boat of this size. I’ll be back.
