Ship Reviews

If you go with the right expectations, Freedom of the Seas can be a great experience. The ship is a bit older and you can notice the wear and tear. The rooms look straight from 2006 in color scheme and wear. We had a stained carpet with a small tear by the bed. Some of the common areas were refurbished in 2020 as new venues like Playmakers, El Loco Fresh, and a smoke free casino. Playmakers is a large space with plenty of TVs so this was a great add. El Loco Fresh provides a lunch option besides Windjammer, which is great. And the smoke free casino, though smaller, was a cool with a nice bar right on the promenade. But the promenade overall and its venues, the dining room, windjammer, and solarium could use all some updates. That said, everything was kept very clean and tidy. No concerns there. The food in the Main Dining room at dinner was quite good. Crab cakes, escargot, filet of sole… yum. Windjammer was okay. It was a huge bright handwashing station, which I like. There buffet split in half and duplicated offerings on either side. The selection wasn’t as extensive as we have seen on other ships, but it was sufficient. Nothing too memorable good or bad. The entertainment was enjoyable. There are no broadway shows, so keep that in mind. We got a song and dance mashup which was okay for 45 minutes, a comedian who was probably the best entertainment in the theater, and an original production show that was pretty good but not exceptionally memorable. Piano entertainment at Schooners was very good at night. The orchestra played the promenade a few times as well. And the casino was large and up to date. There was plenty to do. The standout on Freedom of the Seas though is the service. The service everywhere was top notch. Dining room, buffet, guest services, room attendant, etc. they were visible and friendly, always will to try and accommodate or help. Truly great service. We booked this cruise because you can get some great deals on Freedom of the Seas and we knew, unlike Liberty of the Seas, it had been amplified. We expected to see some wear and tear in advance. Knowing that, we truly enjoyed the Freedom of the Seas as it is quite walkable, has plenty to do, food is solid, entertainment is solid, and the service excellent. Not the best ship we’ve sailed but it there is a good fare I would definitely book this again.

I recently embarked on a cruise with Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas with a group of 10 including my 4yr old as well my niece 2yrs old, and I cannot say enough about how exceptional the experience was. From start to finish, the voyage exceeded my expectations in every possible way. This was my first cruise, and it certainly set a high bar for future adventures at sea. Impeccable Cleanliness and Housekeeping The housekeeping team was superb throughout the journey. Each stateroom was kept immaculate, and the daily service consistently went above and beyond. The overall cleanliness of the entire ship was perfect. Common areas, dining venues, and entertainment spaces were maintained to an exemplary standard, ensuring a fresh and comfortable environment at all times. Culinary Excellence The food aboard Freedom of the Seas was delicious across the board. There was a remarkable variety, with options to suit every palate. From elegant dining experiences to casual fare, the culinary team delivered consistently high-quality dishes, creative menus, and generous portions. For food lovers, this itinerary offered an outstanding breadth of choices, making every meal something to look forward to. Outstanding Staff The crew and staff were hands down the absolute best. Their warmth, attentiveness, and professionalism made a tangible difference in the overall experience. Service was prompt, courteous, and personalized—truly a hallmark of Royal Caribbean’s hospitality. The crew’s enthusiasm and willingness to go the extra mile enhanced every moment of the voyage, from embarkation to debarkation. First-Time Cruise, Unforgettable Impression As a first-time cruiser, I was especially apprehensive, but the entire process—from check-in to disembarkation—was smooth and seamless. The ship’s design, activities, and excursions provided a balanced mix of relaxation and excitement, making it easy to find something enjoyable every day. Based on this incredible introduction to cruising, I will definitely return to Royal Caribbean for my next voyage. Verdict If you’re contemplating your first cruise or seeking a top-tier experience at sea, Freedom of the Seas delivers. Impeccable cleanliness, superb housekeeping, delectable cuisine, and a staff that treats guests like family—combined with a memorable itinerary and impeccable service, it’s a standout choice. Perfect Day at CoCoCay We had a wonderful time at CoCoCay—a true island paradise. The atmosphere was beautiful and relaxed, with crystal-clear water that was perfect for swimming and exploring. Food was amazing—delicious options that stayed fresh and flavorful throughout the day, making every meal a treat. The water was pristine and inviting, ideal for a family day in the sun. Our kids absolutely loved the water slides, and the activities were engaging enough to keep our 4- and 2-year-olds entertained throughout. Overall, a flawless stop that left us with lasting memories. Highly recommended for families and anyone looking for a pristine, fun-filled island day. Would I recommend this voyage? Absolutely. I’m already planning my next Royal Caribbean adventure and hope to sail with Freedom of the Seas again soon.

This was my first cruise, and I travelled with Royal Caribbean on the Freedom of the Seas. I went as a "bachelor's party" with my friends. This cruise was very affordable ($470 per person w/o drink package, $850 with drink package). I will first start out by stating how amazing the cruise staff were. You could go up to any cruise staff member (bartender, dealer at Casino, dining staff, etc.) and they would make sure your question or issue was addressed promptly. We stayed in the interior cabin to make the trip more affordable. Yes, the room was small, but for 3 dudes, we didn't mind it at all. I also did not get sea sick. The way I see it, I wanted the cheapest room because there is so much to do on the ship, and the only thing I did in the cabin was sleep. We spent A LOT of time in the casino, to the point where I knew all the dealers names and all the bartenders names (lol). The casino is fun, and the dealers and bartenders are kind and want the best for you. Now to the dining. I LOVED the food. If you get a chance, do the "Chef's Table." It is a bit extra, but you won't regret it. There are several food options and you will surely find something you will like, whether you go to the buffet, or to the main dining room (more formal). To the drink package. If you plan on drinking 6 or more drinks each day, the drink package is absoltuely worth it. The bartenders are excellent and the drinks are amazing. Finally, the destinations. We went to Turks and Caicos and to Cococay. I loved it all (Cococay is owned by Royal Caribbean, so most items are free. If you plan on going on any excursions or getting the drink package, I would order/buy them BEFORE the cruise. The price difference will save you a great deal of money. I would buy the drink package 1-2 weeks before the cruise. I bought the package 2 weeks before, and within a week, it dropped $50 per person. If you wait till at the ship to buy the package, you will spend nearly double what you would have pre-cruise. There is so much to do on this ship for all ages. Even though there was a lot of kids, I never felt like the kids were a bother. Everyone did their own thing. I recommend this ship to all those who want to cruise. Affordability and friendliness of the staff were among my favorite things about this ship. I really don't have any complaints about the ship. I like to recognize good customer service, so I wanted to write this review. I am already thinking about my next cruise. Thank you Royal Caribbean!

Royal Caribbean never disappoints. With that said, I was surprised to see a decrease in the quality of the food. It was a let down. To have to pay extra for a real piece of steak in the main dining room for dinner was not what I expected. Pre-Covid I remember being served real meat and all the lobster I could eat. It seems like this isn’t the case anymore unfortunately. Also, the employees, specifically waiters/waitresses, seemed pretty down. I do hope they take better care of them, working on a ship is no easy task. Due to this I will be exploring other cruise lines in the future. The ice skating show was phenomenal. The theater was decent. I feel like there should be more whirlpools around the ship. The windjammer was at times very packed and it was difficult to find a seat. Once again, the food could’ve been better. And the selection I felt was also more limited. Also no sauna/steam room in the gym was disappointing.
