We had a great time with our in-laws. Our room was not up to usual standards with a noticeable layer of dust on the top edge of the cabinets and part of false eyelashes stuck to wall in bathroom mirror cabinet. No hand soap bar either. We did get one day 2. Entertainment was per usual. They had a new cruise director that could use some experience. The comedian Rondell Sheridan was excellent. He performed 2/4 nights. The magic show was more a comedy show, not much magic. It was enjoyable though and I am sure a hit for the kids. He brought several kids up on stage to participate. The production show was great. They changed a port day to a sea day and replaced a sea day with a different port due to weather. Great communication about the change. Food was good. Desserts were disappointing. They seemed to be more mass produced, commercial products from GFS or Sysco. The only chocolate chip cookies I could find was at the coffee shop and they were hard. Not much rotation on buffet. Casino was good. Felt security on embarkation was lacking. I love debarkation at Fort Lauderdale. It has always been so quick since we have passports. This was my second time on Radiance, first was 21 years ago. Not much had changed. We traveled with someone with mobility limitations and were able to borrow a wheelchair to use while we were on the ship.
Great Cruise. Ship doesn't look old. Rooms smelled like sewage, some outdated furniture in room. Food was pretty bad for Royal Caribbean Standard, after being on the Explorer of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas. The ship did move a lot at night on the way to Sitka. If you get sea sick this cruise is not for you. Great staff and very funny. Entertainment was very mid. Some of the cast was not good, we did enjoy the crew talent show, which was ironically better than the shows performed by professionals. The brazillian BBQ was one of the best restaurants. Back onto the topic of ship movement, the ship did shake a lot at night, going up and down a few tens of feet. It was pretty bad. The rooms are also pretty small, we got a room with one queen bed, a bed on top of the queen bed, and then a sofa bed.
Service from staff was 9.5/10, so friendly they really seem to love their job. Food was hit miss, a few supper were 9/10 ( prime rib, pecan crust salmon, herb shrimp) some were 7/10 (fish, roast beef, seafood pasta). The same with appetizers, allowed to order more than 1, remember that! Late night pizza was always great to have! Alaska ports were great, such a beautiful part of the world. It's an older ship but well kept in my opinion. The price was right for us. Shows were not impressive, stage shows had way too much costume changes and not a theme to follow. Staff talent show was unbelievable, way better singer that show singers. Game shows were quirky but funny. The sing along piano bar was fantastic, young man was so talented. The price for a window room was reasonable. No need for balcony room in Alaska, always lots room on upper decks.
