Ship Reviews

We have cruised with many lines ,indeed 40 years ago we worked onboard . We did Hing Kong to Tokyo with two week tour at the end . This is was a lovely experience that takes you back to the era of voyages ,as opposed to the weekly bus ride ,cruises have become . The enrichment lectures were a joy, well presented and very in-depth ,service was second to none. The food was outstanding in quality and there was plenty of choice . I wasn’t entirely sure what to do with a butler ,but guess what ,a girl can learn . If you want water slides ,big shows ,loud casinos ,this is not for you . If you wish to travel in comfort ,be well informed about your destinations ,and meet some very interesting people ,this may well be your cruise line . I can truly say that this was the first time I’ve felt gutted to leave a vessel ,we will be back .

This was a very nice cruise. Most aspects were very good but the accommodation was outstanding. We had the base level verandah suite and it was better than any I've experienced on Crystal or Seabourn. Other aspects didn't quite reach this level, Food was variable but generally good or better. For a cruise that comprised mainly Australian and British passengers, it was surprising that marmalade was unavailable for the first few days--and then not offered in individual jars (unlike other jams which were) The standard wine choice was a bit limited. The crew were for the most part very welcoming, helpful and friendly. One or two were a bit surly and the shop management didn't have the same warmth as other sections, telling me when I went to purchase a tube of toothpaste that in the future I should order a purchase of this kind via my butler or reception. Not exactly a good sales technique.. The other weaknesses were not attributable to anyone, but reflected ship design faults. The SALT Bar is far too small. I never managed to get a seat. The Cafe also sometimes get very busy and service can suffer. The Terrazza Restaurant offers generally good food, but the tables are too closely arranged and staff and passengers often had difficulties navigating from the buffet to and from their tables--especially at breakfast. Ordering breakfast items was always possible but sometimes took too long. And the observation lounge towards the bow of the ship is rather neglected in the sense that there is only a self service coffee machine. The view is great, but as it is the only forward looking public room on the ship, more could be done to exploit its position. Other ships are designed with more of a bias towards forward looking public areas, whereas the Silver Moon has the opposite with a stern facing preponderance.
